I gave it 19 points although it's not my favourite song of theirs (that's Mad World), and even from that album I've probably given Shout and Head Over Heels more plays over the years, but it's such an accessible and catchy song that piques interest in the deeper message - the best 80s pop artists were good at that.

Speaking of which, please by some miracle, PSB/Dusty for the win!

The big reveal this afternoon! Who will become buzzjack's favourite No 2 hit of the 80s?
I’d prefer a-ha to win but I know the PSB’s have such a following amongst those who voted (myself included!) that I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them win
Yeah I don’t mind obvious wins when the song in question is one of the most enduring pop songs ever written

the TFF song is ok but not best top 3 of the 80s imho

Tears For Fears have so many classics but that track is one of the greatest records of all time, there's about 3 hooks for th price of one, and the synth chords are achingly brilliant.

a-ha is a pop classic, but yeah Sun Always Shines On TV is their perfect record, Take On Me has always been about the video sending pop greatness into the stratosphere. What have I Done has the melodic sumptuousness of Tears For Fears' but with added upbeat diva brightness...

Well I’ve not won this rate either as my 30 pointer exits along with 1987 and Jason’s maximum pointer. Still it was clear in 2nd place and is a worthy runner up.

Another rate where the leader was seldom in doubt. Only 3 of you gave this no points at all, JackJones, Chez Wombat, Colm, and * Dandy gave it their maximum points and 12 of us put it in their top 10- All of which means this is by some stretch Buzzjack’s favourite No 2 of the 80s!

wow not even close! No mealworm points and overwhelmingly beloved of all and sundry.

Very happy with the top 3 TBH, my numbers 1, 2 and 7...

Thanks for organising and running Gezza, and what great taste BJ music fans have! :o :yahoo:

Whoa, not only were there just 3 of us who didn't vote for Take On Me, there were just 3 of us who didn't put it in the top 20 :o

It did seem the obvious winner from the start and if I'd number-crunched to see there were almost 900 points left in the top 2, that would have given it away. It's a good song and was a big seller in 1985 so its victory is well-deserved - it's just also one of those that I don't seem to love as much as almost everyone else here (see also Frozen, Pure Shores, Telephone, We Found Love and various other Buzzjack faves) but I can live with that. What Have I Done To Deserve This has exceeded all my expectations and it's great to see it get the recognition of runner-up.

Thanks Gezza for running this over the last few months!

Great winner! Number 2 and 3 (which I didn’t vote for) did surprise me, but I’ve listened to WHIDTDT a few more times over the past few days and it is certainly growing on me.

Thanks very much for this Gezza! It’s always a bittersweet day when the winner’s revealed and it’s all over. Inevitable question - any more to come? 90s #2s? 70s #1s? Feel free to say no more obviously. :)

What a landslide :cheeseblock: A deserved one naturally, it could've been a lot of songs as my 30 (and I suppose it didn't need the points), but none quite have stuck with me like that has, I discovered it way back in my mid-teens and it still is such a joyful and wonderfully produced track, will never get old for me.

Thanks for running this, very enjoyable as always! (I would love one of these for the 90s later if you have the time!)

Yes! The correct winner, there are some truly amazing pop songs from the 80s but Take On Me really is pop perfection. I don’t remember it from the time but I can remember hearing it in a retro night in about 2000 and thinking OMG what is this slice of perfection?!!!! Definitely the correct winner. The band are so underrated in general too, their first two albums are great and they were equally great when they came back in the 00s

That's a great top 9. I didn't vote for the Eurythmics or the Pet Shop Boys but they were close to being included in my top 30.

Thanks for running this, Gezza.
