I think my top 3 would be Stardust, Fatboy Slim and Eminem (but 'Better Off Alone' very close behind, I do quite like 'Tender' too).

What’s with everyone picking quality records when there’s cheesy pop available? Ed I thought you were going to put Witch Doctor forward!? :nocheer:
after the reaction to Doctor Jones on Sunday, I’m keeping quiet about The Cartoons - but I’d happily swap Tender for that - if anything because Tender is about 7 minutes long haha

Also I’m the only person going to nominate Outside? 2 weeks behind Believe - but an iconic record!
Outside is ok.ish but not GM top tier
In the meantime, and in the honour of the Jubilee, why not listen to the following regal themed #1s?

Roger Miller - KING of the Road

ROYAL Scots Dragoon Guards - Amazing Grace

QUEEN - Bohemian Rhapsody

Abba - Dancing QUEEN

Adam & the Ants - PRINCE Charming

QUEEN / David Bowie - Under Pressure

Ben E KING - Stand By Me

QUEEN - Innuendo

QUEEN - These Are the Days of Our Lives

QUEEN / George Michael / Lisa Stansfield - Five Live EP

Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh PRINCE - Boom! Shake the Room

PRINCE - The Most Beautiful Girl in the World

Wamdue Project - KING of My Castle

Five / QUEEN - We Will Rock You

Westlife - QUEEN of My Heart

Mint ROYALE - Singin’ in the Rain

KINGS of Leon - Sex on Fire

Lorde - ROYALS

Storm QUEEN - Look Right Through

Years & Years - KING

…and throw in Sex Pistols - God Save the QUEEN ofc!

I'm sure Ed Sheeran is gutted not to be on that list :kink:

How many songs are we going to get though on Sunday then? Turn Back Time to Blue (Da Ba Dee) plus a bunch of #2s... guessing a 7.15pm finish at the earliest?

Yes I make it almost exactly 3 hours of Number 1s so the bonuses will be in extra time. Hopefully people will be happy to have a slightly longer session given that we’re missing a week either side.

For those looking ahead, I’m planning for the following session to both start and end with a colour themed song. :D

Oh that's good with me as I won't be able to make that session, so was hoping not to miss Beautiful Day which would come the week after (if I've got the right song!)

By the way the offer of a morning session on Sunday 19th is still open - wasn’t clear if people are actually busy with Father’s Day stuff and / or that slot wouldn’t suit? Though I guess that means Jim would miss Beautiful Day.

We're back! :w00t:

Join us from 4-7 for some late 90s classic No1s... and some not so classic No1s. Have a gin and tonic ready to get through Gym and Tonic.

As mentioned we will likely run over by 15-20 minutes.

Hope you're all having a good week. Time for the midweek look at #2s in preparation for the next session!

I would also love to finish with a random surprise as with the last couple of sessions - maybe a great song from the period that wasn't a Top 2 hit. I know that last time's didn't impress you much so perhaps you could all put forward a suggestion? Maybe PM it to me to keep it a surprise.

The interesting thing is that despite the very high #1 turnover in this period there wasn't that high a volume of #2 peakers. I guess quite often the #2 was the #1 from the week before rather than a fresh hit.

689 R Kelly - If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time 1999

690 Tin Tin Out feat Emma Bunton - What I Am 1999

691 Will Smith - Will 2K 1999

692 Artful Dodger feat Craig David - Re-Rewind The Crowd Say Bo Selecta 1999

693 S Club 7 - Two In A Million / You're My Number One 2000

694 Donell Jones - U Know What's Up 2000

695 Sash - Adelante 2000

696 Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson - Movin' Too Fast 2000

697 Blink 182 - All The Small Things 2000

698 Moloko - The Time Is Now 2000

699 Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers 2000

700 S Club 7 - Reach 2000

701 Samantha Mumba - Gotta Tell You 2000

702 Bomfunk MCs - Freestyler 2000

703 True Steppers & Dane Bowers feat. Victoria Beckham - Out Of Your Mind 2000

704 Sonique - Sky 2000

705 Kylie Minogue - On A Night Like This 2000

706 Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 2000

Nonetheless there a few strong contenders on that list that jump out at me!

Zombie Nation is a must. Bomfunk MC's and Artful Dodger would be my other picks from that bunch but a few other gooduns there too.

Artful Dodger had two #2s and no #1s, so I'd definitely use Re-rewind

I'd also voted for Gotta Tell You and Flowers (recently ruined by ArrDee)

I think Shania Twain didn't go down very well cos you accidentally picked the wrong version, people would have loved the good version I'm sure

Classic top 10 favourites from that period that didn't quite make the top 2: Mel C - Northern Star, Lene Marlin - Sitting Down Here, Sugababes - Overload, David Grey - Babylon, William Orbit's Barber Adagio for Strings, DC's Say My Name, Richard Ashcroft - A song for the lovers, Coldplay - Yellow, Bon Jovi - Its my life, Darude - Sandstorm, Moby- Porcelain...

I think my favourite 3 would be:

Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson - Movin' Too Fast

Moloko - The Time Is Now

Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400

Classic top 10 favourites from that period that didn't quite make the top 2: Mel C - Northern Star, Lene Marlin - Sitting Down Here, Sugababes - Overload, David Grey - Babylon, William Orbit's Barber Adagio for Strings, DC's Say My Name, Richard Ashcroft - A song for the lovers, Coldplay - Yellow, Bon Jovi - Its my life, Darude - Sandstorm, Moby- Porcelain...

About half of those are better than any of the number twos

Obviously we should steer clear of anything that’s likely to feature in future #1 album sessions, so that could rule out quite a few of Bjork’s suggestions.

There’s something I’d absolutely love to play as the last track of the day, but I’d appreciate your input…

Edited by JulianT

Btw if anyone was wondering how the Kate Bush revival affects what'll be played at the #1 albums sessions by the currently planned criteria... RUTH(ADWG) would originally have got a play representing 'Hounds Of Love' but that play will now go to 'Cloudbusting' instead, while the song played for 'The Whole Story' will swap from 'Cloudbusting' to 'Hounds Of Love'. 'Never For Ever' will still be represented by 'Babooshka' as would have been the case regardless. :magic:

I hadn’t been wondering but great that you’ve got it all planned out Bré! :magic:

For a while I thought we’d be playing Kate in the final session as a #2 but that slot has opened back up too!
