Alice

Rain on Me

Sour Candy

'Alice' with a Gaga entering Chromatica-esque video (not shot on an iPhone) could have been a serve. It's a bop and more introductory than 'Stupid Love'. 'Stupid Love' is a wee bop but it didn't really have any longevity, and I really don't think anything other than 'Rain on Me' would have been massive.

It would have been a struggle for any single beyond 'Sour Candy' to do much so it should have been an opportunity to make videos/visuals for her favourite songs for fans and fill out the world of Chromatica.

Stupid Love is a good song but Alice would have performed much better on the charts.

I think Stupid Love was the perfect lead personally. It's not her best ever song nor the best on the album, but it's still a huge bop and it was well received on the whole, so it's a great first single choice - reintroducing the world to pop Gaga and announcing that she's back with a bang, while also keeping better tracks back for later singles / a listen to the full album!

Rain On Me was perfectly placed as single 2, couldn't have happened any better. Sour Candy should've definitely been a third single with a full music video and some promo. After that, I think it would've been an uphill battle as it usually is for post-album singles but a fun video for a song like Alice or Free Woman to close the era could've been great, the album deserved more than what it got visually.

I agree that 'Sour Candy' feels like the obvious missed opportunity!

Numbers aside I feel especially robbed of a potential music video - the worlds of Gaga and BLACKPINK colliding visually?! *.*

Stupid Love was the perfect first single imo, solid carefree pop song that’s easily made for radio but still quite quintessentially Gaga. It’s also more of an easing into the Chromatica sound, I think Alice risks being a bit too much too soon as a first single following Shallow etc.
I think most people here share this sentiment but it doesn't mean it'd make a better lead single!

Majority always wins.

I think Stupid Love / Rain On Me were the perfect combination - SL was a big high-energy welcome back to pop Gaga and the Chromatica era (plus I love the song!), and ROM was the obvious smash. Sour Candy should've come next, its streaming performance is already pretty good and it could've had such an iconic music video. As people have said, any more singles would've struggled as that's just how things are, so I'd keep it to a few low-key releases. 911's music video is amazing so I wouldn't want to lose that, I also think Free Woman could've been a nice moment as clubs started to reopen post-lockdown - the idea of fighting for the dancefloor could've really resonated with people. Then finally I would've used Bree Runway's remix of Babylon as the focus track for Dawn Of Chromatica, purely because I really want her to have her moment in the spotlight  I realise that makes it 6 singles with varying degrees of promotion, slightly excessive but in an ideal world they all deserved their time to shine.
Yep, 911 is great and the video is among her best, but let's be real, it never was going to be more than a mid-sized Charli XCX hit (scraped top 100 in the UK when getting promo). I think some radio adds and playlisting would've brought it over 150 million streams on Spotify by now, but not much further (it's at 119 million).
