Sometimes this forum gives me a feeling of anxiety? Posts give off a vibe like Kylie’s career is in jeopardy, as if one false move and it’s all over and it would be all our fault… but of course this is so far from the reality of the situation that it’s laughable!

I kind of wish as a fanbase we were just in a relaxed moment now, enjoying an album that’s only been out for a month. Everything’s absolutely fine! #83 in the album chart… it doesn’t matter. Numerous new albums don’t even spend more than 2 weeks in the Top 200. Kylie’s still in after 4. Yes, her previous releases didn’t do this. But this is a reflection on the state of official charts in 2023. It’s not a Kylie specific problem.

This. It's honestly exhausting.

She's got her #1, she's got a silver record and I'm more than happy with the album she's given us.

Let's take a back seat here and see what unfolds for the rest of the campaign.

I'm really not sure what you expect? Have you seen everyone elses sales? She has had a top 10 single, 1 top 20 single a top 100 single already and a number 1 album.

Anyone who has read the forum since Padam x2 came out know that fans were expecting much better commercial results. Let's not pretend otherwise.

The fact that she got one Top 10 single and another Top 20 single suggested Tension was going to outperform both Golden & Disco, especially on streaming.

The album is still a BIG success. No one can dispute that.

Yes but with hindsight the current chart performance isn’t much below these expectations…it’s just understanding how the current market functions. A bit of analysis shows Tension is doing fine.

This is inaccurate, it'd have charted at about #24 without the physicals in week 1 - none of the other BMG singles would have done that. Plus if you compare the chart run with the other BMG singles it's clear to see it's had a greater impact, I'd say maybe 'Dancing' could be on a similar level but that's about it.

You can’t predict what the other BMG singles would have achieved if a physical release had come in the first week. Tension had a clear advantage in week 1 given BMG released everything in the first week and that shows in its no19 peak. However, it was unable to sustain that as it spent most of its chart life near the bottom of the charts. I don’t have the physical sales to hand but I’m sure I read on here it would have just missed the T40 without any physical releases. Even if it was no24 as you say, it’s still been a very brief flash in the pan of chart success. As I said earlier, if you ask the general public about tension, most people will not have heard of it.

Nobody is saying Kylie’s career is in jeopardy but clearly some fans are disappointed by the performance of the album to date. It’s a great album and deserves to do well. I think most people expected it to hang around longer particularly given the success of Padam.

To be fair, there's a swathe of the public who aren't aware Kylie is even still making music (I've actually heard one or two people I know IRL say that recently) so it's not the most accurate measure.

OK, let me try and debunk this properly.

In the week 'Tension' debuted at #19, it sold 16,140. 4,690 of those were physicals, which looking at the Music Week report without those would have placed it on or around #24.

'Say Something' and 'Magic' were released without physicals in their first week and charted at #82 and #75 respectively. Weeks later they peaked at #56 and #53 solely due to their physicals.

'Tension' chart run: 19-44-75-47-66-97 (3 weeks of those being higher than the 'Say Something' and 'Magic' peaks without aid of physicals) That's a fairly solid chart result/run to say this did not get added to Spotify's Hot Hits playlist. By all means dislike the song as much as you want, but I don't think it can be denied that by Kylie's modern day standards this is quite a success for her.

BMG and certain folk were being presumptuous and naïve believing Padam could carry the whole album forward. We as fans knew it was a miracle for Kylie and the success was a shock but that was for that particular song.

My personal opinion is that yes Vegas may be a career peak for Kylie and it'll give exposure and bring in money, but I do also believe it has hurt the Tension era at every turn.

I said this before, it’s great for Kylie and obviously a major money generator however it’s happened at the worst time just as she is returning to commercial success across Europe which she has been unable to capitalize on.

Totally agree its come at the worst time, ideally kylie would have done Vegas last year or later in 2024 so she could fully commit to promoting Tension in markets she does well in.

I never expected the album to struggle to stay top 100 on week 5.

If there was prediction I would have said Top 25 for week 5.

Any reason why my posts are being deleted on here? For combating negativity on chart placements of Tension?

I really don't post anymore, mainly for the reasons stated on the last page or two. We have people like sour candy and neil (yes I will call them out) who are intent on spreading negativity and dressing it up as something else. This era has been enourmas so far, I repeat so far. We have a Silver Album, top 10 single and a top 20 single. I do believe there is more to come. I did listen to both singles and the album today, not because I want to help her chart or whatever, I listened because I wanted to listen. A couple of days ago it was hold on to now, now it's story that has my attention. that is a sign of a brilliant album, one that keeps evolving.

People need to understand this is a music forum not a fan forum and lots of people will want to give their opinion on artists/charts. You cant and the mods shouldn't delete or police people for being 'negative'.

This goes for any and every other artist posted about on buzzjack, if you cant handle differing opinions that is on you not them.

True, negative opinions shouldn’t be policed. However, when it’s the same negative opinion every week, it’s then trolling.

There are a couple of particular users, I won't name them but they are known trolls who don't just do it here - they do it across the whole site. It's only natural they're treated with disdain when they exude this behaviour.

There is a difference between negative (which is 100% fine and should be part of a discussion) to trolling though. I’ve only ever seen that from one member in here which is now back to being on ‘ignore user’.
