Lets see how Tension can keep selling

Kylie Minogue, Tension (Darenote/BMG): Lead single “Padam Padam” gave Kylie Minogue her biggest pop culture moment in at least a decade when it became a cult favorite this spring and summer, and the pop legend is looking to capitalize on that momentum this week with the release of 16th studio album Tension. Physical sales would be the key to her first top 20 entry on the 200 since 2010’s Aphrodite, as Tension is available in six CD variants, five vinyl variants, four cassette tapes and three digital album iterations (including an artist webstore deluxe with five bonus tracks).

Not much info there but Billboard seems to think she might be a contender for top 20.

Lorraine promo on shortly regarding last nights concert.

Good that it’s getting coverage.

I wish we had a full tension performance like we got from Padam at Capital.

It just needs that sort of promo, we only get 10 second of video clips and doesn't give the song justice

The longevity problem with the album is that say it gets 3.5k sales from streaming in week one which is fantastic but that will only fall gradually dnd so many old albums are getting higher streaming so she somehow needs to sell physicals in a declining physicals market even more. So tough.

Somehow you need to get 4 or 5 big streaming songs per album and get them on playlists with longevity and its so difficult to do.

Her Spotify numbers went from 9.5m a month to 14.8m a month just for Padam. Now it's 14.3m even with a new album of songs not moving it up as Padam gradually declines.

Older albums and greatest hits streaming sales really need to be put on a bigger ACR regime

Nice to see.

Hoping for a good start to week 2.

Somebody to Love - this is essentially Kylie does Carly Rae Jepsen, which is a great thing, obviously!

Actually, this is such an accurate description!

This song is really growing on me now.

One More Time, Green Light and Tension are my 3 this morning

Ps. Isn't it depressing in all the interviews it's still Neighbours, Doctor Who etc. Let's talk about Tension, the songs

Hopefully Tension will have passed 50k by now.

Can’t wait to see the final figure and sales breakdown.

I do like 'One More Time' but it sounds like it came straight off Disco and seems like a bit of a regression in that sense, especially because most of the other tracks boast more exciting production and are a bit more lively.

I somehow managed to win tickets for last night’s gig – was my first time seeing her and she was great! Just the absolute sweetest too, you can tell the success of this album has meant a lot to her. All the new songs sounded amazing live, especially Hold On to Now. Story isn’t my favourite from the album, but she sounded great doing that.

I was hoping for the original version of Slow (my absolute favourite ) rather than the arrangement she’s been doing for a while, but it was still good to hear that live in any form. The crowd was oddly dead during Padam Padam, but I guess that’s what happens when it’s a room mostly full of competition winners and celebs rather than proper fans

From SH -

According to the final sales flash before the big reveal tomorrow, Tension is guaranteed the top spot of the UK’s Official Albums Chart, but it will struggle to surpass Disco’s first week numbers. At 49735 units today, Tension needs more than 5000 additional copies to better Disco’s 54905 and become Kylie’s fastest-selling LP since Aphrodite in 2010 (which registered 79152 sales in its debut frame).

Ok so it’s added another 3k on yesterday.

Fingers crossed at least 3k added for today’s sales inc any lagging streaming and general sales. Surely all of the pre sales and extra incentive sales have despatched/ been reported now.

Thank you for sharing Cremey…though it irks that the gig wasn’t pushed more towards hardcore fans (not aiming anything at you btw).

Not sure what the purpose of the gig is really….back in 2000 I won tickets to Madonna’s Brixton gig by answering loads of true fan questions via a Radio 1 competition. Of course it’s easier to cheat these days as the internet is far more advanced, but they could have done something like that and built the hype far more. Madonna’s gig was massively reported and really helped to promote her album. Why Kylie just sings 4 songs of Tension baffles me. Though I guess if the attendees all go away and stream/ share there’s a bit of an uplift in the future to her catalogue.
