sad this is over but much looking forward to 94

thanks as usual for doing this

Thanks for the commentaries Gezza! Looking forward to 1994 when I started to watch TOTP regularly!

1994 is when music really started for me, so very much looking forward to the music.

Thanks Gezza as always!

is there gonna be a pause now or do they continue with 1994 straight away

Edited by Bjork

Looks like the next 2 Fridays at least have no ‘new’ episodes, so looks like there is a pause :(
They’ll likely be showing Christmas TOTP episodes over the festive period and start again in January!

Finally caught up on this thread after falling behind on TOTP for a few weeks!

Mr Blobby is following me around at the moment - in this thread/TOTP, turning on daytime TV during my lunch break recently to cause havoc while Basil Brush was singing, then also being played on Radio 2 the other week as part of Scott Mills' birthday game, where the caller gets to choose between 3 of their random birthday #1s and this was the default final option :kink:

I'm not that into 90s Prince but 'Controversy' sounded quite good on TOTP. Also loved hearing 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' (hooray for the impressive Bee Gees longevity continuing into another decade), the epic 'Bat Out of Hell' and 'It's Alright' - one of East 17's best for me. 'I Was Born On Christmas Day' was also a treat in full lower down, an essential on my festive playlist!

There was a 3D episode of TOTP recently that has unsurprisingly dated so badly

Thanks for this Gezza, bring on 1994 ^_^

As much as I want to stick up for 90s Prince… sadly Controversy was originally from the early 80s so that’s probably why you like it Jade :D

Yes it's from one of his first albums from the very early 80s (I actually realised the other day Prince had already released music in the 70s)

not sure why that was picked as a single from his Hits album, there were much better options in my opinion, was a UK-only single I believe

The 1994 episodes will start on the 6th January with the 4th January 1994 show which was a 30th anniversary special presented by Smashie and Nicey - its basically an old clips show.

The weekly 1994 shows will start on the 13th January:

7.00pm - 6 January 1993

7.30pm - 13 January 1993

provisional schedule for 20th January:

7.00pm - 20 January 1994 - last show for Tony Dortie

7.30pm - 27 January 1994 - last show for Mark Franklin

It's ironic that the last number 1 for Tony and Mark will be Things Can Only Get Better !!

I am going to miss both of them.

The retro double bills that followed the 1993 episodes will continue into the 1994 shows with 1977 and 1983 on the 13th Jan - 1981 and 1990 on the 20th Jan.

It scares me that I remember the 20th anniversary in Jan 1984 with ‘Relax’ being played on the retro episodes.

When do the presenters change?

It scares me that I remember the 20th anniversary in Jan 1984 with ‘Relax’ being played on the retro episodes.

When do the presenters change?

February 3rd when Simon Mayo leads the return of the Radio 1 DJs

There will also be celebrity presenters as well led by Robbie Williams and Mark Owen on the 17th March

One other change that will take place - the 24th March show will be the last show to features breakers

Edited by mrpopquiz

So Simon Mayo and Co only really away for 2 and a half years!

Suppose by 1994 there’s no need for breakers as most songs entered at their peak. Think the breakers started in like 1983 as well!
