No contest this round - LY is up against one of Kylie’s worst albums :kink:

I agree about body language, it's def a hard album to listen to in full as it just seems to be constantly stuck in one gear which makes boring after a while. Light years in contrast is fun and uplifting and just very kylie.

'Light Years' a million times over & think its safe to say that its gonna be here for the next several rounds. But for this round & like I've done in previous rounds, I'm gonna talk about all of Kylie's studio albums & for this round gonna talk about 'Body Language'.

Body Language is an interesting body of work from Kylie's back catalogue as its very marmite, it wasn't very well recieved at the time, I do feel that fans have warmed towards it over time, but at the time, it simply wasn't what people wanted. Many expected a 'Fever Part 2' type of sound, honestly I'm glad she took a risk, as I bet if she did do a 'Fever' type clone then many woudl complain that Kylie was playing it safe & not evolving as an artist. To be honest at the time I couldn't warm to this album (apart from the fabulous 'Slow') & felt quite disapointed. However as time went on I started to appreciate it for what it was, sure it was a very bold move with the more synthpop & electropop driven direction, but on the whole its still a strong & classy album that for the most part is really good.

'Slow' was easily the best choice to lead this album as its the focal point of the album with its cool minimal synth beats & seductive vocals, this was a perfect progression from her last album. Even the follow up singles 'Red Blooded Woman' & 'Chocolate' were strong & firm album highlights, but sadly they don't quite compare to the brilliance of the 'Fever' singles, in fact nothing on album even compares to their brilliance. That's not to say that they're aren't of great quality, they just very different. The first half of the album is really strong with many other standouts such as 'Still Standing' & 'Secret (Take You Home)', but the rest of the album quickly loses steam up until the end with the gorgeous 'Loving Days'. A shame that this pretty much killed her momentum in the USA, but all that aside 'Body Langauge' is still a decent body of work that may not be up there with Kylie's best, still good though.

I do admire Kylie for been so brave with the risk she took on body language but i think the risk was too much, i just think she could have done a far better follow up to Fever and not that i wanted Fever part 2 but a similar sound would have worked as she was just so popular during fever that i think she needed to take advantage of it, body language kinda killed off some of the success. I think a few songs on the lines of slow but faster with more synth beats could have been good but its all in the past now, there are parts of body language if mixed with parts of X could have made a great album.

'Light Years', for sure.

I do like 'Body Language' though. It's criticisms aren't unjust but I appreciate the subtle vibe of the album and think what it lacks in big choruses, it makes up for in slick, cool productions. I would say it needs some bigger moments on it though, particularly in the latter half of the album where the quality does dip. I'd swap 'I Feel For You' and 'Someday' for 'City Games' and 'Cruise Control', as well as 'After Dark' with 'Slo Motion' as I think that works much better as an album closer.

'On the Up' is another great outtake but I don't think it would suit the album. It's probably the most 'Fever'-esque song from the sessions.

It def lacks choruses with hooks which is often what makes a kylie song memorable. I think the subtle vibe would have worked better if the album had heavier synths that would have elevated the sound.

I love the album and think it gets a hard time, I don't know if that's more down to having memories associated with the songs more than anything though.

Objectively speaking it does sound quite rushed and almost like an album of demos, but I can at least find merit in every track but 'Someday' and 'I Feel For You' (which are absolutely dreadful)

Easily Light Years - very surprised at Fever not winning the last round tbh!

Fever and Light years are always a close battle but light years just pipped fever by a point. I will open the new round tomorrow.
