Biography

Metallica didn’t just help invent heavy metal, they evolved with it. Formed in 1981 when a “dorky, disenfranchised” teenager in Orange County, California—Lars Ulrich, his words—placed a classified ad name-checking Iron Maiden and Diamond Head, the band debuted in 1983 with Kill ’Em All and pioneered the blinding synthesis of punk and British metal we now call thrash. Having moved to the Bay Area in the early ’80s to court bassist Cliff Burton, the band—Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett, guitarist-vocalist James Hetfield, and Burton—went on to fashion metal into a kind of art form, eschewing the glammy appeal of hair metal for ultra-serious, progressively complex song-suites that explored subjects like suicide, political corruption, and the psychological horror of war. (Burton was killed in a bus accident in late 1986 and replaced by Jason Newsted; the band regrouped for 1988’s epochal … And Justice for All.) Even as they became a global phenomenon in the wake of 1991’s record-breaking self-titled album, Metallica remained defiantly on their own path, dabbling in Southern rock (1996’s Load), high-concept dirges (2011’s divisive Lou Reed collaboration Lulu), stripped-down hardcore (2003’s St. Anger), and orchestral live albums (1999’s S&M). Their story is, in essence, the story of metal itself: a push-pull of simplicity and complexity that continually challenges our understanding of fast and loud. - Apple Music

Yep 'Peru' out then Buzzjack rejoices :kink:

This sounds great again so good to see it top 30!

Seeems like only a few weeks ago we were complaining it was avoiding acr which goes to show songs will fall away relatively quickly once on acr!

I hope Luude has done a PAIASN and entered the top 40. I remember when PAIASN dropped out of the top 40 on one of the updates and by the Friday, it went straight into the top 20. MOP is a tune and needs to go higher
Surprised MoP is getting another play as it's going down and a bit different to the other chart show stuff to put it mildly. Not complaining though.

That was because they did a social media campaign on the final day for it, it wasn't a happy accident.

Why would it have done a Kunts (took me ages to figure out what PAIASN was)? That had a big download campaign and was a different type of track entirely. I don't think Luude's making any political statement lol

Biography

Throughout the 2010s, Los Angeles was America’s epicenter for forward-thinking Black music across the mainstream-to-underground spectrum. There were the hip-hop heavyweights of the Top Dawg Entertainment stable, the indie-rap provocateurs of the Odd Future crew, the electronic/jazz experimentalists of the Brainfeeder family—and standing at the intersection of all these game-changing forces was Steve Lacy. Born in Compton in 1998, Lacy (né Lacy-Moya) first surfaced as the teen wunderkind guitarist/producer for Odd Future offshoot The Internet, shaping their woozy funk atmospheres with beats he created on his iPhone. After The Internet’s 2015 opus, Ego Death, earned Lacy a Grammy nomination before he’d finished high school, his lo-fi approach attracted some high-profile clientele, and he’d go on to leave his smudged fingerprints on J. Cole’s chart-topping 4 Your Eyez Only and Kendrick Lamar’s epochal DAMN., among many others. All the while, Lacy was laying the groundwork for his own solo career, updating Prince’s psych-soul auteurism for a post-Mac DeMarco bedroom-pop age on endearingly off-the-cuff singles like “Dark Red” and “C U Girl.” (That tightrope walk between R&B swagger and outsider aesthetics carries over to his guest features for urbano star Kali Uchis, indie kingpins Vampire Weekend, and avant-funk maestro Thundercat.) His reputation as a certified vibe-master well established, Lacy revealed more of himself on his 2019 full-length debut, Apollo XXI, using the epic alt-rap suite “Like me” to address his bisexuality and fear of coming out. But that sort of candor is perfectly suited to his musical m.o.—whether he’s beatmaking on his phone or opening his heart, Lacy always puts a premium on honesty and intimacy. - Apple Music

First time hearing ‘Bad Habit’ even though I’ve downloaded the album to my apple playlist and immediately sounds better than everything in the chart. Nice to see him having a hit as his last album was great!
