The Billie Eilish tracks weren't that much of a surprise release then, given that the playlisting committe knew about them earlier in the week.

Bit of a boring week for new adds otherwise, although I do prefer that Pale Waves single to their last one.

Lil Nas X off already? What's the deal with that song, was it not a proper single or something? Was it just not intended to be super commercial?

It was but he just flopped hard WW.

Like the new BE songs, boring week.

Wow! BJSC winner Confidence Man with the truly awesome Holiday which achieved an unprecedented number of votes and points in the contest it featured in, a true masterpiece! :cheer:
All about Confidence Man this week. Glad it's getting a second push

I don't get why they're going for second push on this though, the album has SO much better on offer.

Great adds x Billie, Tiesto

plus all those indie songs

Just sounded like every other hit sounding pop song to me!
It's a shame 'This Hell' made no impact whatsoever, it felt like everything was set up for it to (raised profile, super commercial hit-sounding pop song)

I mean this exact post could be made about 'LUCID' too. She just isn't a mainstream artist. Maybe she'll somehow break through with something one day* but at this point she's been hyped to high heavens by critics / internet gays for years with zero sign of expanding her appeal to the mainstream, Rina fans still constantly talking about her chart potential is bordering on masochism.

Honestly I think she has a better chance of taking off with something more interesting than these faceless mainstream pop attempts ('This Hell' is decent but it's basically a B-tier Ava Max song and even Ava herself is unreliable as a hitmaker, 'LUCID' was just a bad song imo), I could maybe see the TikTokers latching onto something along the lines of 'STFU!' if the stars aligned correctly.

*obviously she had a hit of sorts with 'Beg For You' but let's be real, her feature on that had at best a very marginal influence on it being a hit and it was hardly the kind of standout feature that would be winning over anyone who wasn't already a fan

It’s interesting how dance or hip hop artists songs are taken on merit no matter how long they’ve been around (see Tiesto above) whereas certain bands/artists once they have moved to R2 or stopped supporting them that’s the end for them on R1.

Kind of made me think after watching the old TOTP Episodes the new Paul Young song in 1991 was a ROTW for Gary Davies even though at that stage of his career he would have been an early 80s star but the new song was good enough to clearly be playlisted based on its own merit(it went top 10)! Nowadays it’s much more controlled!

I think for dance acts like Tiesto and Guetta, age isn't so much an issue, probably because the public won't really know what you look like. Whereas if you're a solo performer (particularly female) you won't get a look-in if you're that age (sadly)
Doesn’t seem fair that. Think it’s also a lot to do with the type of music they make which is appealing to the age group R1 are looking to attract!

I feel like a lot of older solo performers still make music that could easily fit on their playlist, but because they're deemed "over the hill" won't be considered.

Look at Sia for example, she was a popstar in her mid-40s at the time they playlisted her a few years ago but because nobody knew what she looks like it didn't matter.

Yeh it’s true and ridiculous at the same time. Pretty sure Liam Gallaghers last three albums could easily have fitted in well on R1 too, indeed he was HR a few times on the evening shows!
I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure Wall of Glass was the only LG song to be Hottest Record. Definitely none of the singles from WMWN & CYK were.
Jessie Ware keeps getting Hottest Records even though it'll be Radio 2 that'll be giving them all the daytime airplay! Still think JW being binned off daytime was very premature. Most of her 2020s singles would have fitted in just fine on the playlist.
