September 2, 20222 yr Congratulations to rising star Eliza Rose who secures a debut Number 1 single today, and becomes the first female DJ to top the Official Singles Chart in 22 years, since Sonique’s It Feels So Good in 2002. Riding the crest of the dance revival currently underway on the UK charts, following a six-week climb, Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal‘s B.O.T.A. (Baddest Of Them All) successfully un-seats LF SYSTEM’s long-standing chart-topper Afraid To Feel (2) to become the UK’s 1,400th Number 1 of all time. https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/e...umber-1__37322/ Great achievement!!
September 2, 20222 yr Poor knowledge from the journalist. It Feels So Good was 2000. I'm not sure if this was an absent-minded typo, because he acknowledges it happened 22 years ago and he must be aware that 2002 wasn't (yet) 22 years ago.
September 3, 20222 yr 8UOzBePz6Fc Amazing to see Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal pick up a UK #1. I still can't quite believe it! Wonderful also to see how supportive other artists in the underground dance scene are, this hopefully will be the first of many incredible breakthroughs in the next few years. I know Zach (Interplanetary Criminal) was largely behind the production of this track but Eliza is a DJ in her own right and I still feel like female DJs/producers are killing it so much rn and have been unfairly represented in the mainstream for so long that it's great to see Eliza up there as a role model for new and emerging talent. Great article/interview here: https://www.dazeddigital.com/music/article/...lston-interview @1565752041556901888
September 3, 20222 yr Author What a special moment for underground electronic dance music, female DJs, female DJs of colour. I can't stop smiling. Also noticed how much other underground electronic dance acts rallied behind Eliza to get this to #1. Really warmed my heart to see such a sense of community :wub:Â GOOD UNDERGROUND DANCE MUSIC FOREVER!!!!!!!!! WE DID IT!!!!
September 3, 20222 yr Let's not forget that Eliza replaced LF System at number 1 which makes two underground house no 1s in a row. I hope we'll see more of them in top 40 in coming weeks
September 24, 20222 yr Author This is now turning into a bit of a global hit. It's charted at #4 in Australia and #7 in New Zealand, and up to #2 in Lithuania :cheer:
November 12, 20222 yr Eliza has been nominated for a MOBO - the first time in 25 years that 'Electronic Dance Act' is a category - and rightly so! @1591007828659027969 The nominees for the new award, which is sponsored by Mixmag, are Anz, Eliza Rose, FKA twigs, Jax Jones, Nia Archives and SHERELLE. The MOBOs had previously been criticised for its lack of dance music representation. In April, Nia Archives penned an open letter, saying it had been "massively regressive for the Black community."  She wrote: "How can we expect young Black people to see themselves in the music if our own organisations and award ceremonies won't even celebrate the diverse range of talent that boldly exists in this country?" Jaguar and Heléna Star expressed similar concerns in a Mixmag article in 2020, saying the decision to "ignore massive parts of global history" has contributed to the erasure of dance music's Black heritage. Posting on Instagram earlier today, November 11th, the Black Electronic Music Association (BEMA) announced it has been working tirelessly to reinstate a dance music award at the MOBOs. BEMA has also curated a voting committee for the new category. The 25th anniversary of the MOBO Awards will take place at London's Wembley Arena and will be livestreamed on YouTube. Highlights will subsequently be aired on BBC One.
December 4, 20222 yr If anyone is in Bristol on Tuesday night (and free), Eliza is doing a talk about her number 1 UK single at Stokes Croft: DJ and broadcaster Vanessa Maria will host the talk with Eliza Rose at BIMM Bristol’s new Stokes Croft location. Earlier this year, we announced a new collaboration with BIMM Institute, the British and Irish Institute of Modern Music and the largest music institute of higher education in Europe. As part of this partnership, we curated a series of conversations with some of the most influential and inventive voices in contemporary music. Rounding off this series, on 6 December we’re putting on a talk with Eliza Rose – the east London artist and DJ behind 2022 smash hit, B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All), which was a link-up with Manchester-based DJ and producer Interplanetary Criminal. The discussion will dig in to the process behind creating a number one hit, with Rose providing an insight on the story behind the track, her career so far, and her astronomical rise to the top of the charts in 2022. B.O.T.A. has been dubbed the sound of the summer, taking over the charts and being used millions of times in TikToks. Summer 2022 has been filled with accolades for Rose, being the first woman DJ to hit the top spot on the UK singles in 20 years – since Sonique with It Feels So Good – with almost 100 million streams worldwide and over four billion streams on TikTok. A staple of London’s underground, Rose has played venues and events such as fabric, Rhythm Section, Spiritland and more, with shows at Field Day, Lost Village, Outlook and other summer festivals. Held at BIMM Bristol’s new Moon Street campus in Stokes Croft, in Bristol, the talk will will be hosted by Vanessa Maria – a DJ and broadcaster also known for her high-energy sets and mental health advocacy. The new space hosts a multi-use learning and production space, a venue for live music, recording studios and DJ booths for students to use. The talk, which takes place at 5pm on 6 December, is free to attend and open to students as well as the public. She didn't win - but here's her performance from the MOBOs .. C9sYZMvph2g
