I was expecting more songs on the album to be like Pressure. It’s the only song on the album that feels like Melanie is combining her DJ and pop career. I love how it’s over 4 minutes. It really lets the song breathe and takes you on a journey.Drum Machine should have been the first single. It has an edge to it that Sweat doesn’t. Sweat is a decent song but it’s a little corny. One Track Mind is probably my favorite on the album. Melanie is at her best when she does moody, atmospheric songs. Think Closer, Feel The Sun, Home, Wonderland, You’ll Get Yours, Enemy, Blame, etc. I wish there was a few more songs like One Track Mind on the album.Agree, Drum Machine should have been the first single. Sweat should have been one of the pre-album 'promo' songs instead.
May 3May 3 Sweat was an okay first single but they needed a strong second single and that should have been Drum Machine. The focus track should have been Pressure or even Emotional Memory.
May 3May 3 My track by track review 😉Sweat – 5/10It leaves me a bit underwhelmed. It is catchy in places and works as an introduction to the album, but as a lead single it feels pretty weak.Drum Machine – 9/10This should have been the first single. I love it. There’s something about that drum-driven sound that just makes you want to move. It’s rhythmic, upbeat… such a great track. What Could Possibly Go Wrong? – 8/10A really strong song overall. I love the verses and the pre-chorus, but when the chorus hits and keeps repeating “what could possibly go wrong” with that rhythm… I don’t know, it feels a bit underwhelming compared to what the rest of the song promises.’Til It Breaks – 3/10Well… every Melanie C album seems to have that one track that feels like a leftover. This is it. Quite weak, both in the verses and the chorus.Pressure – 2/10It’s not that it bores me, but this very DJ-driven, club-style sound just isn’t my thing. It feels like a remix from start to finish. I get why it’s on the album, since it reflects where she is musically now, but it really does nothing for me.Emotional Memory – 9/10I love melodic Melanie. And the “Angel on My Shoulder” reference made me smile 😄 At times it really reminds me of her older sound. I’d love to see this as an official single with a proper video… let me dream.Attitude – 2/10Same issue as Pressure. That remix-like, club-heavy style again… it just doesn’t connect with me at all.Good For Nothing – 8/10Very simple verses, but then that chorus hits hard. GET OUT! 😅 Another one I’d love to see as a single with a video.Undefeated Champion – 7/10Very catchy and genuinely enjoyable. It just feels like it’s missing something, though I can’t quite put my finger on it.Cashmere – 8/10A bit of an odd one, but very welcome on the album because it completely shifts the mood and atmosphere. The experimental, slightly autotuned vibe and the way the track flows is almost hypnotic. A great addition.Free to Love – 8/10Solid track. Catchy chorus, sits comfortably in the middle of the album quality-wise. Really nice. One Track Mind – 10/10For me, this is the climax of the album. The melody is beautiful, the chorus is incredibly catchy… everything just works. It feels like something from The Sea era, or even her previous album. At times it reminds me of Nowhere to Run or that older Melanie sound. Absolute perfection for me.Flick of the Wrist – 9/10Another standout. The final stretch of the album is just chef’s kiss. The tracks all feel distinct, and then this chorus comes in and seals the deal. A fantastic closer.Bonus tracks:Healing – 6/10At the end of the day it’s a demo, but not a bad one at all. It feels like something that could’ve been left off Northern Star. It has its charm. We’re Beautiful – 6/10Same as above. You can tell they’re demos, and with more production they could really shine. Still, they fit the album’s essence quite well and don’t feel out place.Overall: 7/10A somewhat inconsistent album, but definitely an enjoyable one. It leans heavily into a more electronic, club-driven sound, which doesn’t always work for me, but when it does, it really hits. The second half of the album is where it truly shines, with some of the strongest and most memorable tracks. Songs like One Track Mind, Emotional Memory and Flick of the Wrist feel like classic Melanie C moments and really elevate the whole project. Not her most cohesive album, but it still has plenty of highlights that make it worth the ride.
May 3May 3 Sweat would have been good as the lead launch single for the album. Perfect single to kick off the summer. Attitude, Undefeated Champion and Good For Nothing should have been cut from the album. They are all unoriginal, corny soccer mom songs that bring the overall album down. With these songs gone, the album would be a much stronger 10 track album. My other 2 favorite songs on the album would be Flick of the Wrist and Til It Breaks. Overall, I’m happy Melanie seems to have a good team in place. Her profile is much higher now than it was 5 years ago. She has been working her butt off. I’m happy her hard work is paying off and the album is going to chart in the top 5 with over 11,000 sales.

May 3May 3 I love Flick of the Wrist lyrics. “Now I’m that b*tch!”One of my fave off the album. It’s funny, but it seems we all skip the promo songs. Melanie and her single choices.. always the same story. LMAO
May 3May 3 If she gets number one after so many years, it would be incredible for her — she truly deserves it for being so hardworking. I hope the team gives it everything this week to make it happen! Extra signings, more editions, whatever it takes — she needs to get that number one!

LMAONope, Drum Machine and What could possibly go wrong are the best two for me.Same as Carolyna, Think about it, Anymore and Who I am were all the best tracks on their respective albums. She generally releases the stronger ones in my opinion (we can ignore Better alone lol)

Hopefully she has something up her sleeve!I've seen a few people mention they wish the HMV artwork and the Spice Boys artwork were on vinyl.I would 100% have grabbed a Spiceboy edition if it were on Vinyl!

I did Marketing at uni because I wanted to go into music marketing but alas it never happened haha! It’s very quiet in Mel’s camp but I’m sure they have a couple of tricks left (acoustic / remix digital) and potentially a bundled signed poster or something? She could even sign the postcard set and bundle it with a CD/Cassette to be honest.
May 3May 3 I'm really enjoying the album.Highlights for me are Sweat, Pressure, Attitude, Undefeated Champion and Flick Of The Wrist.I've got the 'alt' Spice Boys edition CD, marked MELANIECCD3 on the spine and disc. The booklet has MELANIECCD1, but as it has names of the Spice Boys listed I think that it's the correct booklet.I like that the disc is yellow to match the cover and not the standard orange as the store has it shown as.
