45 - Robert Palmer & UB40 I'll Be Your Baby Tonight

63rd best seller of 1990

19-10-6-7-8-17-29-40-46-72

A rather strange cover, I always felt.

Didn't outsell any number 1s of 1990.

44 - Haddaway - Life

63rd best seller of 1993

8-7-6-6-9-14-28-46-69

Not a huge departure from, but nowhere nearly as good as What is Love?

Incidentally, only two songs with the title of Life ever charted in the UK and both of them feature in this thread.

This did not outsell any number 1s from 1993.

Life sounds less What Is Love and more Pet Shop Boys to me, certainly more of an 80s vibe to it to my ears.

One Of Us is my favourite from the last few though.

The chart runs don't seem to get any more impressive as we move up this chart. I'll elaborate on this later when we can discuss why this might be.

Just catching up and my stand out favourites are Winter In July and Enjoy The Silence. Both are stunning.

43 - Maxi Priest Close To You

62nd best seller of 1990

55-36-15-8-7-9-11-15-31-56

I completely forgot that this song existed. It has a rather nice chorus but I keep drifting into Jon Secada's Just Another Day while I sing it in my head.

42 - Sabrina Johnston - Peace

61st best seller of 1991

31-17-9-8-8-10-19-35-47-75

While it was number 8, the 7 songs that were above it all placed in the best selling 40 of the year.

Outsold number 1s, Innuendo and Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter.

I’d forgotten all about that Maxi Priest track too. Very of the time but not too bad

In terms of Haddaway singles, I think I bought all of the ones from him from the album with Rock My Heart being my favourite at the time

Just catching up and my stand out favourites are Winter In July and Enjoy The Silence. Both are stunning.

Just catching up and agree with you 100% that those two tracks are by far the best in the countdown. 'Winter in July's chorus melody seems to have been poached for the Naughty Boy/Sam Smith 'La la la la' no.1 almost verbatim. Not that I mind as I love that track too.

'Peace' is a lovely track. Like Ultra Nate's 'Free' we don't get many of those love another type spiritualish tracks making the charts nowadays sadly.

41 - Lisa Stansfield - In All the Right Places

60th best seller of 1993

Chart Run

13-9-10-8-10-15-17-21-39-48-66

From the saucy pic, Indecent Proposal. I just learned that Lisa released 4 solo singles in the early 80s and then one in 1986 with her band Blue Zone.

This didn't outsell any number 1s from 1993

40 - Josh Wink - Higher State Of Consciousness

60th best seller of 1996

Chart Run

7-8-10-14-19-25-28-33-43-65

Sold a considerable amount more on second release in 1996.

Outsold number 1s, Setting Sun by Chemical Brothers and I Feel You by Peter Andre

Was the 96 version the remix under the artist title of Winx? If so I think they did a pretty decent job of keeping the spirit of the original but making it more typically structured as a charting dance track

60th best seller of 1995

Chart Run

6-10-11-12-11-18-29-36-50-59-66

Another song from December 1995 that managed to impact the top 75 of the year with only 4 weeks sales to do it with.

I can't remember every hearing it before. I don't think I've missed out, very much.

38 - Lutricia McNeal - Ain't That Just The Way

59th best seller of 1997

Chart Run

6-9-14-14-17-13-18-24-22-25-22-24-24-33-34-44-54-67-

It wasn't the long chart run that placed this in the top 60 of 1997, it was the fact that it was released in the stratospheric sales period of Nov/Dec 1997.

It only took the final 5 weeks of 1997 (6-9-14-14-17) for it to have sold 210,000 placing it above the following 1997 number 1s

Blur - Beetlebum -

LL Cool J - Ain't Nobody

Gary Barlow - Love Won't Wait

Michael Jackson - Blood On The Dance Floor

Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin' Beats

Dance covers of recent hit singles rarely cover themselves in glory. This is no different.

Didn't outsell any number 1s from 1994.

36 - Curtis Stigers - You're All That Matters To Me

59th best seller of 1992

Chart Run

41-28-15-9-7-6-8-9-16-23-40-61

I used to say that Kings of Leon - Use Somebody reminded me of this Curtis Stigers song. (Edit - it's I Wonder Why , actually) I can't really say which is worse. Both terrible, to these ears.

Failed to outsell any number 1s of 1992.
