Hopefully someone as mad as Liz Truss will win AGAIN to force a general election. We will be much, much better off for it in the long-run.

He would easily win any membership vote sadly - would be such a farce though.

Liz Truss was Prime Minister for the same amount of time that David Blaine was in a glass box hanging above River Thames
I just don't understand why there isn't a GE - this will be our third PM in less than a year, and second one that no one voted for!! I'm worried if someone safe gets in, everything will be conveniently forgotten by 2024 and they will get in power again :(.
I’m not convinced that Starmer is a ‘good’ leader. He comes across as weak but his party have come up with some good ideas recently.

The question is, are labour doing so well in the polls on their own merits or because the Tories are doing so badly? Sunak is politically popular among the general public so the tide could change if he is elected as pm and we have a period of relative calm and the election doesn’t happen till 2024. I really hope that doesn’t happen as we badly need a change and the Tories have done so much damage in this country over the past 12 years.

Fair point, but history points to us that if things are not good, the electorate want a change and that is usually down to the governing party/external circumstances rather than the opposition party. The cost of living and rising mortgage costs are not going away. The Conservative party is going through the same identity crisis Labour had (which I don’t believe is full resolved btw, but I also think the more Socialist MPs also realise the bigger battle at this moment in time).

Sunak would improve the polls but the issues run way too deep imo. The only difference is Sunak would stop the Tories from being obliterated at the next election.

Unfortunately if there were automatic mechanisms to trigger a GE in this kind of situation, a majority party would just never get rid of a bad PM. One of the problems with having a majority party have 100% of the power.

If we had an EU proportional system then the Tories would be (at least) 2 parties in a coalition and the hypothetical Moderate party would have long since withdrawn its support from the hypothetical Right party that Truss would be leading and you might end up with a different coalition or a proper chance at a VONC actually succeeding and less governing MPs shit-scared of the electorate.

There are ways by which a General Election could happen before it's due, but I'd still rate the chances as pretty low, to everyone's dismay.

Yeah, Johnson's going for it again.

My f***ing god.

What a mess our country has got into, after crying tears of joy that Liz was leaving, i shall nw be crying tears of sadness that BoJo is planning a comeback

BoJo wont get it anyway - he was forced out due to the MPs.

He has some staunch supporters, but he wont galvanise support across the whole party.

I mean, Teflon Boris and all but I'd really like to see Tory MPs vote him back in with a straight face when clips like these are still easily re-callable + so many of the big names staked themselves against him in July:

(those were both this year!)

Surely they would not be so stupid as to let him back in!? It just ridicules them even further which seems an impossible feat at this point?
Why would this be Right wing propoganda if HIS OWN PARTY suspended him.

THEY ARE RIGHT WING EXTREME CENTRISTS!!

Excluding the case where the incumbent (Ian McLeod) died in office, the records for the shortest tenure of a Chancellor, Home Secretary and PM will all have been set this month. Two of those records may be beaten again before the month is out.

!!!!

Despicable party. So evil and heartless, their governments INEVITABLY collapse under the weight of their own hatred, even amongst themselves

To be honest the more I think about it, I can see Johnson getting back in.

The extreme right of the party will collapse in behind him.

So the final 2 will be Johnson and Sunak.

Tory members vote Johnson back in.

Johnson returns to power

Then the Tories with a slight spine will either resign, or defect. Then an election will be called when Johnson's majority fades

It is an MP-only vote.

Is it?

Brady said it would go to the members if there was more than one candidate

What Brady said earlier:

Sir Graham Brady says he expects a leadership result by Friday next week.

The 1922 Committee chairman says he expects Tory members to be included in the leadership contest.

There had been speculation the rules of the contest could be changed to exclude members
