Wow I'm delighted it's the way you make me feel has missed the top 5 as I thought it would top 2 and possibly the winner.

The lack of taste

That is a fairly decent size shock result for Its The Way You Make Me Feel.

6. Neon Blue | 9.235 Highest Scores: 11: (Feel The Fever, pippa, spiceboy), 10: (gooddelta, Hazelnuts, LMFan), Lowest Scores: 7.5: (Run For Cover, Herbs)

At #6 & just missing the top 5 by a single point is Neon Blue, released in August 2017 as the 3rd single from their 5th studio album Tears On The Dancefloor. Written by Carl Ryden and Fiona Bevan & produced by Ryden with The Alias. Lyrically the song is about encouraging a downcast friend to come out and have some fun & band member Ian "H" Watkins described the track as a gay anthem due to its message of coming out. Upon release the song garnered a positive response from music critics & was released in the form of two remixes, a radio edit and a club mix produced by Adam Turner, along with 7th Heaven remixes a week later.

An instant Steps classic upon the album's release & rightly got chosen as a single to add to their ever growing catalogue of fabulous anthems. A simple yet effective mid-tempo track with elegant piano melodies, strong vocals & riveting percussions that builds to a infectious chorus. The stunning production really highlights the feel-good message of the lyrics, making it feel earnest yet powerful at the same time. Overall this is just a really good solid number from Steps. Glad to see its done so well on here & just goes to show how loved this song is.

I don't think 'Neon Blue' is quite that good, even though I love it all the same.

That's a pretty perfect top 5 I'd say, and it also nicely balances new with old.

I’m actually surprised to see Better Best Forgotten this high, above many I thought would do better.

And didn’t expect ITWYMMF to go out so early. Nice to see Neon Blue do so well, a highlight for sure and to me the ‘new Steps’ song that sounds most like ‘old Steps’.

I love how well Something In Your Eyes has done. Unlike their version of Victorious, with which Lina Hedlund remains unbothered, I actually think they improved on the already great Jenny Silver original, it’s not much different but suits them down to a tee, and the song works by having more voices on it.

I have added the HD video for 'Words Are Not Enough' on page 1 of my results. I love that their old videos are getting the HD treatment as they look incredible & a big shout out to the team whose been working hard at creating these.

The reason why I've re-edited my results is to simply show off as many as possible. Hope we get a 'Deeper Shade of Blue' HD video at some point, in-fact I hope all of them gets that treatment at some point.

5. Deeper Shade of Blue | 9.294 Highest Scores: 10: (Nina West, Hazelnuts, Jessie Where, Run For Cover, spiceboy, Qween), Lowest Scores: 7.5: (LMFan)

At the #5 spot is Deeper Shade of Blue, released in April 2000 as the 4th single from their 2nd studio album Steptacular & peaked at #4 on the UK singles chart becoming their 8th top 10 hit. The track was first showcased on their 'Next Step Tour' in 1999 just before the album's release & gained a positive reception from both fans & critics. The song was originally recorded by Tina Cousins but, aside from a few promotional 12-inch records, her version remains unreleased. In September 2015 Claire premiered a new stripped backed piano recording of the track via her social media pages.

The highest ranked song in this countdown not to gain any 11's, which is surprising, but still managed to gain several 10's & other high scores, helping it gain a healthy average of 9.2. I will always have fond memories of this & remember the first time I heard it, which was on the 'Next Step Concert Tour' which premiered on Sky One (I didn't get to watch it), but my friend taped it & said you have to listen to the 'Shade of Blue' song, which of course I did, it was an instant highlight on that concert & knew it HAD TO BE A SINGLE at some point, which thankfully it was. Even now more than 20 years later the song is absolutely flawless & has aged beautifully. The song represented the first significant shift in Steps’ image and sound. At this point they were a certified A-List pop group with enough momentum to take a few risks and steer them in a bold new direction. The aggressive production, brooding synths and thumping club beats gives the track a futuristic yet atmospheric sound. This is truly an EPIC sounding number that shows the group evolving in the best way possible.

I have re-edited my review of 'Just Like The First Time' on Page 3 (ranked at #31) please feel free to check it out if anyone's interested.

#4 will come later this evening.

With the few surprises so far I thought deeper shade of blue might have made number 3. 5 is still a great result.

Evergreen song, I often find it's most popular among non-fans or casuals too.

Mad how they sat on it for so long before making it a single, but still did brilliantly in the end anyway.
