Please note this is the NOMINATIONS thread only! The voting thread will come next week.

Here is the shortlist of 25 for the 4th and final heat of the Worst Number One rate. The rate will be posted on Sunday so please post any comments over the next few days.

At this stage it’s 1 in 1 out so if there’s something you want to save please nominate something to add and vice versa. Remember we’re limiting it to 1 song per artist across the competition. As before we’re trying to avoid filling the whole list with charity and reality related songs so there’s a slightly higher bar of awfulness required for those!

Vanessa Jenkins & Bryn West feat. Tom Jones & Robin Gibb - (Barry) Islands in the Stream (2009)

I would take out Charlie and Meghan, Kid Rock and Maroon 5 as I liked them to some extent. (KR was a #1 in my chart even  )

I'm impartial to Suga's v GA but that can stay in and 'Green Light' is quite fun so an odd one to include here. 'Start Without You' I didn't mind initially but meh it can stay.

I'd put in LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem, Sak Noel - Loca People & Chris Brown - Turn Up The Music.

That Alexandra Burke song has no place in this list, and that Roll Deep song is surely nowhere near the worst type of generic song that hit the top spot in that period. I also really like All Summer Long but can see why it'd be included, same with Beautiful Girls - I've never quite understood why that's so hated.

I'd definitely include Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song and Jessie J - with Bang Bang

I think with the Roll Deep one it’s the lyrics that have really aged like milk - “Check out the skirt on that” etc. But certainly open to replacing it!

Agreed with a few of those proposed swaps, I would suggest that (Barry) Islands in the Stream, We Can't Stop and Señorita should be in here instead of Beautiful Girls, No Regrets and Payphone!

Also would consider adding WAP and Blurred Lines to save Green Light and I Don't Care (if we're going by how some of the lyrics on Green Light have aged badly you could make the same argument for Blurred Lines!), and for artist swaps I'm thinking Hallelujah could replace Start Without You for Alexandra (Burke, that is ) and Savage Love could replace Don't Wanna Go Home for Derulo.

oh yeah I'd also replace Roll Deep with Chris Brown 'Turn Up the Music' which fulfils the same function of being a "club banger" but easily worse of the two
Oh how could I forgot Scouting For Girls :puke: tbh I don't even remember it haha but I'd totally nominate it still because it wouldn't have been great anyway.

Green Light is one of my favourite songs, I hope that is taken out! I’d also personally remove Payphone and Dance Monkey (though I do get why they are hated), and especially the wonderfully wacky Bom Bom! Cheryl’s I Don’t Care isn’t particularly offensive either, although hardly her best.

I’d add:

Vanessa Jenkins & Bryn West feat. Tom Jones & Robin Gibb - (Barry) Islands in the Stream (not funny)

Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Disco (feels like one of those No.1s that got there due to the artist’s status - love Dance Wiv Me and Bonkers, Holiday is fine, but this was filler to me)

Chris Brown - Turn Up The Music (crap, another that feels way too limp to have been a chart topper as he had some other decent singles around this time that didn’t get there)

McFly - Baby’s Coming Back (one of their worst singles and dived from No.1, probably shouldn’t have ever been there at all…)

The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir - A Bridge Over You (love some choir songs but I don’t feel this medley worked particularly well and was one charity campaign at Xmas No.1 too many for me)

Turn Up The Music should be in this list too, yes! The suggestions of Dirtee Disco and Baby's Coming Back above are also definitely worth considering.

what about Ed Sheeran-Perfect? Why it's not on the list? Thats the baddest of them all :)

some of the most saccharine bland and patronising lyrics in the history of music, the bit about finding a woman to bare him children, I cringe even thinking about it... just wrong... musically it's on the same level as any Westlife original but lyrics are even worst

I would vote to save Beautiful Girls, No Regrets & Green Light. All may tick the "questionable or dated lyrics" box but I really liked them all at the time so the nostalgia value is strong.

Barry Islands is alright as charity novelties go, I don't think it's that bad. I think Turn Up The Music and Dirtee Disco are fair game for the list though. Also agree with Bjork if there is to be one Ed Sheeran song for the list it should be Perfect.

I'd like Payphone and Dance Monkey to go out and be replaced by Señorita and WAP.

As stated in the listenthrough, I don't believe Dance Monkey fits this list as it's equally loved and hated on here and this list is meant to be songs that are near-universally hated. I think it should be swapped with A Bridge Over You or Turn Up the Music.

I personally think Hero and Wishing on a Star are much worse than You Are Not Alone for XFF

Much as I dislike Ed as an artist, I wouldn't say any of his number 1s are particularly bad, they're just varying shades of dull x

Beautiful Girls to stay please - awful awful song!

Where is that 500 miles Peter Kay/Matt Lucas song? That’s dreadful. And the Barry Islands In The Stream thing.

No Reeeeegrets is awful too, and Numba 1 by N-Dubz.

Bom Bom is fab though, don’t include that!

Can't believe I just found this forum wow wish I could've voted for the others

My suggestions for this one are 500 miles for comic relief, abcdefu, we don't talk about bruno and blurred lines

Would personally replace I don't care with crazy stupid love and freaky Friday with turn up the music. The rest are all good shouts but would want to take off all summer long
