Yes 500 miles is WAY worse than many other things on there. I’d really like to see Bom Bom come off the list, I think that’s one of the more distinctive and quirky number ones of the period.

Of the X Factor Finalists ensembles, at least the first 3 are coherent covers, but Wishing On A Star is pretty much a dreary parade of who can hold a note for the longest, until the last minute when "JLS ONE DEE!" come in and render what's left of the song redundant.

 

I'd also have added A Bridge Over You in preference to BIITS. I don't think 500 Miles is that bad - it was telling that it climbed to replace the official Comic Relief song Walk This Way at #1. In fact, of all the current list, the only song which both climbed to #1 and stayed there for more than a week is Beautiful Girls, and I've already suggested removing that too.

My preference is still A Bridge Over You over any of the Comic Relief ones, they've at least got a sense of humour about them!

'Bom Bom' was basically proto 'Dance Monkey'. (i.e. also awful)

Thanks for all the feedback anyone. As I’ve said before this process is never going to be perfect but we have done our best. Ed and I have discussed some final changes and the final list is now shown in the OP. Voting thread coming tomorrow!
