Posted September 25, 20222 yr @1573734083275984896 That's heartbreaking to hear. I feel like it's probably happened to her numerous times too - and yes she's likely not the only one - but I can't think of another artist in her position who gets so much undeserved hate thrown their way just for wanting to breakout and be a name for herself? It's sad :(
September 25, 20222 yr sad indeed :/ but don't get it, she is credited in the song, even the OCC which is always very random does credit her I think it's even worst for Ina Wroldsen, writing Rockabye on her own about her life struggles, being the vocalist of the song with Clean Bandit and then the label deciding her name is not big enough and replacing her with frikkin' Anne Marie :/
September 25, 20222 yr She was only credited on Hey Mama after it was already a hit. She definitely wasn't when it first started blowing up (and the OCC site isn't loading but from the google preview it looks like the credit there is GUETTA/N MINAJ/AFROJACK) I think Bebe is a great popstar and it's a shame she's often seen as a bit of a joke when I think she's probably one of the hardest working popstars just trying to stay afloat in the industry. She has loads of great songs both as a lead artist and as a feature, and it's a shame her hit tally for the former is so tiny, it does feel a bit like she wasn't given much of a chance beyond Meant to Be, which took on a life of its own of course. I'm thrilled she has a #1 to her name now at the very least!
September 25, 20222 yr What was the actual reason for them not initially crediting her or featuring her in the video? Was it a superficial thing?
September 25, 20222 yr What was the actual reason for them not initially crediting her or featuring her in the video? Was it a superficial thing? From Wiki: Rexha explained to Billboard why she wasn't initially credited as a featured artist on the track: "We talked about it - I actually emailed Guetta about it. I really wanted to be featured on it, because, you know, I've been signed and dropped, and now signed a second time, so it's been hard. What ended up happening was that it looked like a lot of names on the title, so they wanted to keep as many low features as possible. That's what I was told, and it makes sense to me. I guess more than two [featured]names doesn't look good on the radio. It's tough hearing your voice on the radio, on a chorus, and knowing that people think it's another artist." As of June 2015, Rexha is officially credited in all instances of the song's mention. So too many names was considered offputting (so she was told) and Bebe was probably the smallest name on the list at the time :drama:
September 25, 20222 yr I wasn’t that fond of Hey Mama but that definitely was a total mess up on their part not giving Bebe any credit initially, sad that she still seems upset over it. was also a big shame that after Topic had two big hits she featured on a Topic song then they put zero effort into doing any promotion for it when it sounded like a reasonable hit.
September 25, 20222 yr was also a big shame that after Topic had two big hits she featured on a Topic song then they put zero effort into doing any promotion for it when it sounded like a reasonable hit. That song was easily in my top 5 favourites of last year.
September 26, 20222 yr I stand by the opinion that “I’m A Mess” should have been a lot bigger than it was 🤷♂️
September 26, 20222 yr i think Bebe is incredibly talented but slightly too varied. Her biggest hit is a country song. I don't count this 'Blue' track as a particular achievement as i don't imagine it'll have any impact on her actual career. Saying that, she wasn't made aware G-Eazy was performing 'Me, Myself & I' at the VMAs with Britney until it was live and that probably sucks as she'd probably loved to have performed with them both
September 26, 20222 yr She did always come across as a bit of a joke artist in her early career but definitely an unfair situation regarding Hey Mama. I don't get why that song in particular was thought to be a too long artist credit when there's the likes of Gettin' Over You, Dirty Sexy Money and Goodbye in Guetta's discography, all featuring 4 different artists.
September 26, 20222 yr She's one of the most consistent pop stars for me and has soooo many songs that sound like they should be hits - Last Hurrah, Sacrifice, FFF, I Got You. It's a shame how she's been dealt with in the industry but I really hope that I'm Good (Blue) helps her somewhat and is able to release music she loves. A solo hit would be nice and I think she is capable of one of she has the right song and utilises (unfortunately) platforms like Tik Tok
December 30, 20222 yr And it's a little bit ironic that David Guetta still doesn't consider her as part of "Hey Mama". @1607478426910486529
January 1, 20232 yr I wonder if that intentional by David Guetta. I mean to list those three and not Hey Mama.
January 1, 20232 yr I wonder if this will break their "Friendship:. Anyway i really admire Bebe for standing up like that, like she should.
January 1, 20232 yr Aloe Blacc did his own acoustic version of WMU and Avicii never credited him on his version Edited January 1, 20232 yr by Hadji
January 1, 20232 yr Aloe Blacc did his own acoustic version of WMU and Avicii never credited him on his version IIRC that was the label's decision, which is why Avicii begun to credit artists later in his career. Regardless, at least now, Aloe Blacc is credited (and Avicii isn't) on his acoustic version of 'Wake Me Up' on streaming.
