Love that a 2024 Kylie release has achieved that - in the streaming era I never thought we’d see that in the UK or US.

It was definitely something I'll never forget/never quite believe was actually real!

:please: Hope she can get top 20 on spotify tomorrow and the next day
Apparently R1 have playlisted this for Friday?

That would be quite something as clearly isn’t by choice so must be the peer pressure and because they’re fed up of the backlash and having to trot out vague fake reasons why they’re not playing such a popular song.

It would be great if this furore proved to be a turning point for the playlist committee to maybe consider songs on a song by song basis and not artist by artist, based on outdated notions of the artist’s relevance to the target audience.

^^ I think it’s the pressure, they have got to be hard pushed to think up an excuse not to playlist a song that’s climbing in its 5th week and has grown on TikTok (apparently where the majority of their target audience hang out!).
I hope it can make it past the C-list but if I have a feeling they’ll do the bare minimum to dodge the ageism accusations (assuming it’s true). The last time this backlash happened was Living for Love, obviously that was DOA so they could get away with not playing it, Padam Padam is just getting bigger and bigger

It’s probably come at a good time to be fair, it’s likely it will be removed from the Radio 2 playlist this week or next, so this will keep it on the radio a bit longer!

NO WAY!

I wasn’t expecting that

Congrats Kylie! This could really push higher now if they actually do play it and it’s not just there for show

Always happy for any additional publicity or radio promo for Kylie....but does a playlisted song on R1 mean anything these days? They A-listed the last 2 Rita Ora songs and they both did zilch on the chart - not even top 40.
That’s amazing. Also love that JoJo is back on the playlist! That must be the first time she’s been on it since about 2007

I think in this situation it really is just the principle, more so than it being something that'll be a major help for its success (after all, it's already proved itself without Radio 1)! I guess this is going to make the headlines, that attention could be more helpful than them giving it a few plays.

Well done Kylie!! :w00t:

Radio play is certainly less of a big deal now than what it once was - I guess the difference with PP is that it’s already a hit so the GP already like it and a few R1 plays could push it to new highs!

I’m pretty sure neither of Rita’s singles from the new album were on the playlist? But, you are right, it doesn’t really matter if Kylie was added to the playlist at this point, the song is already a hit. It’s just another win for Kylie though.

Nothing much aside from the symbolic notion we've won, I suppose . But it might help in our quest for pushing into the top 5 in the next week or two :cheer:
