October 10, 20222 yr Haim seemed to do really badly with their other songs this year, so I'm pleased that that one proved to be the outlier! Probably my favourite song from them <3 Also glad Don't Delete the Kisses is developing a good following, obvs hoping for a good placing for their other entry here too x
October 10, 20222 yr Author A very pleasing exit position there for Jay & Ye, that song always goes hard and is deservingly earned its place as modern day a rap classic. Nice to see Katy back in even if fairly low down although I don’t think I had room for her in my votes. her huge fall last year seemed very odd. I Feel It Coming and My Head and My Heart are also welcome additions though likewise I didn’t vote for either. the Haim and Wolf Alice songs are decent indie picks too. not fussed about God Is A Woman or Ugly Heart, the positions for those seem about right out of this list. Pleasing to see Symphony still able to make the top 100 even if it is taking a little fall this year, and Wish You Well still climbing albeit slowly.
October 10, 20222 yr Love Wolf Alice making the top 90 and still having another, even better, song to come. A few in this section that I'm not fussed about, but Never Really Over is my favourite Katy Perry song so pleased to see that do quite well.
October 11, 20222 yr Author nlcIKh6sBtc 80 137 231 Lorde - Royals 241-532-159-184-271-363-263-137-80- 12th, 2013 | 21st, SF2 It is a great year for Lorde in the contest - following on from 'Perfect Places' entering the final 100 for the first time, as does 'Royals'. It's taken her the best part of a decade but finally her breakthrough hit has been appreciated enough for it to join 'Green Light' (which has been in the Top 20 for the past four years). This was of course the song that introduced the world to Lorde and became one of the year's biggest and most influential hits - making it to #1 in both the UK and US and largely considered the song that started the trend of minimalist pop becoming more mainstream. It still remains as her biggest hit closing in on a billion Spotify streams. 79 140 233 Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble. 73-79-92-93-187-135-165-140-79- 10th, 2013 | 24th, SF2 If there is one queen of the rate this year it has to be Taylor Swift who has eight entries in this list - five of these entering this year. The first of these comes from one of her big pop songs and signalled to everyone her movement from country-pop to pure pop. The track also featured a faux-dubstep breakdown which has sure dated it a bit however it still stands out as one of her strongest radio-friendly efforts, helped of course by Max Martin on production. The song was for a time her most well regarded track from 'Red' however another song has overtaken it this year with thanks to the re-release. 78 ** 234 Lil Nas X - Montero (Call Me By Your Name) 78- 5th, 2021 Lil Nas X ends up with both of his efforts in the first quarter, although it's impressive that he even got that. Anyhow 'Montero' was named after himself and inspired by the romantic novel/film Call Me By Your Name. The song helped by having pre-release hype and a controversial music video ended up entering at #1 in the UK and US and was also considered to be the first #1 to be explicitly about gay sex. The song ended up being the 5th biggest seller of the year. 77 118 234 Weeknd - In Your Eyes 118-77- 7th, 2020 | 10th, SF2 The Weeknd is the most represented male artist here having six entries, the second of these being 'In Your Eyes'. Taken as the follow-up to 'Blinding Lights' it was always going to struggle somewhat chart wise to follow such a huge hit however it did have decent longevity and more importantly was much praised about on the forum - if anything the surprise is that it missed out on the finals last year. The song's synthpop production from Max Martin and saxophone solo really helped it stand out as one of the best on the album. 76 90 238 Mabel - Don't Call Me Up 91-90-76- 5th, 2019 Leaping to a new peak we have Mabel. Whilst she had somewhat of a sophomore slump this year with 'About Last Night', the biggest hit of her career appears to not have taken a hit from the newer material not going down as well. 'Don't Call Me Up'. Ed Sheeran's favourite producer Steve Mac was enlisted for this one and both sure did their job well making a great pop hit. It was also the only song of hers to break the American market reaching a peak of #66.
October 11, 20222 yr Author papuvlVeZg8 75 82 240 Paramore - Still Into You xx-125-116-69-20-48-106-82-75- 8th, 2013 | 12th, SF2 With Paramore putting out their first new song in five years, they receive a small boost for 'Still Into You'. The song only has one more chance left to re-peak although that does appear unlikely now. The song was one of their more pop leaning efforts and gave them their biggest UK chart hit and also their most popular on this forum. 74 85 246 Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper – Shallow 34-23-85-74- 3rd, 2018 Having taken a huge dive last year Lady Gaga has a small recovery for 'Shallow'. It is the first of two entries here for her. Taken from the soundtrack to A Star Is Born the track became an unlikely #1 hit and eventually ended up as her biggest hit yet with the song being loved by both fans and the general public. It managed to auto-qualify however 2018 was the weakest year in the contest with only two songs from the year placing higher than this in both the yearly round and the final. 73 47 248 SAINt JHN - Roses (Imanbek Remix) 47-73- 12th. 2020 | 22nd, SF1 Starting off very impressively last year in the top 50, Saint Jhn drops to a more modest 73rd this year. As great a song as this is, I'm not at all surprised here now that it has a little less recency bias, and with the slap house trend really being ran into the ground ever since this got big. The song managed to dethrone 'Blinding Lights' from #1 in the chart however it remains the only hit for either artist involved. 72 120 250 Clean Bandit (feat. Anne-Marie & Sean Paul) - Rockabye 92-85-81-144-120-72- 7th, 2016 | 11th, SF2 Reaching a new peak this year for Clean Bandit we have 'Rockabye'. It overtakes 'Symphony' for the first time, surprisingly as I think that song was always better, but anyhow it is great to see this return to the final this year. The song was written and originally sang by Ina Wroldsen but was forced out by the label for Anne-Marie to give a boost to her career. Sean Paul was also added as a guest rapper as they had long-wanted to work with him. 71 144 251 Weeknd - The Hills xx-124-340-318-494-144-71- 10th, 2015 | 13th, SF2 The Weeknd songs keep on coming now with this being the third to drop out. However, it is rather impressive this has made it even this far. It is indeed the first appearance for ‘The Hills’ in the final. Often overshadowed by the other hit of his from the time, it has now out-performed ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ in this contest… as it should. It still stands out as one of his very best and it is great to see this gaining some more appreciation ever since the After Hours era happened.
October 11, 20222 yr Always a little surprised to see how mediocre-ly Royals has done on here, given how popular Lorde is and that this remains her signature song. Other than that, not too sad about any 80-71 departures, most of my faves are still alive.
October 11, 20222 yr Great to see The Hills getting much more appreciation this year! Nice that Still Into You has climbed, If I Could Change Your Mind has become the most popular HAIM song on here, and glad that N****s in Paris got the high finish it deserved too!
October 11, 20222 yr Wow as if this was the first final appearance for both 'The Hills' and 'Royals' too :o A lot of justice happening this year! My most hyperbolic love for 'Royals' has died down a bit now but still a fantastic song (and it's still quite high up my list of favourite Lorde songs which seems to be a bit of an unpopular opinion within the Lorde fanbase). And 'The Hills' is just the first of a trifecta of basically flawless songs from The Weeknd in this  'Shallow' and 'Roses' are the only other ones from today's 10 that I voted for, glad to see the former on the rise again. 'Rockabye' getting a new peak feels a little random, not like CB or Anne have a lot of BuzzJack goodwill right now  Kinda glad 'MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)' isn't toooo far ahead of 'INDUSTRY BABY' but I do like it as well. Moment of truth approaches for if 'Language' has a new peak or not!
October 11, 20222 yr I voted for 5 of those 10 in the final. Good showing for In Your Eyes to make the final alongside the two much bigger hits from the album, Still Into You staying consistent and Shallow getting some stability. Roses is still just about my favourite new chart hit this decade so I'm glad it hasn't fallen too far. Not sure what caused the new peak for Rockabye this year, but for me it's the best thing Clean Bandit (and Anne-Marie) have done so I'm here for it!
October 12, 20222 yr U7-dxzp6Jvs 70 135 252 Taylor Swift - Cardigan 135-70- 10th, 2020 | 11th, SF1 The second appearance of Taylor Swift kicks off the top 70 as ‘Cardigan’ climbs 65 places to hit an all time high. Cardigan finished in 135th place last year and this year makes the final round for the first time, it is the 2nd of 8 Taylor Swift songs to make it through to finals. ‘Cardigan’ is lifted from her Folklore album and managed to gain a total of 12 votes in the final. 69 49 256 Mr. Probz - Waves (Robin Schulz Remix) 193-381-208-212-72-60-49-69- 16th, 2014 | 24th, SF1 At 69 ‘Waves’ slides 20 places after reaching a peak position last year. The song had 4 years of not managing to break in to the finals and then in 2019 is gained quite a bit of support to reach the final round for the first time. This year it only just made the finals and finished in 24th place in Semi-Final 1, in the final vote it gained 15 votes in total. ‘Waves’ is still a great song and a perfect summer bop. 68 25 258 Mark Ronson (feat. Bruno Mars) - Uptown Funk 76-122-65-40-243-25-68- 17th, 2015 | 13th, SF1 After reaching an all-time high position last year, ‘Uptown Funk’ slides 43 places this year. Barring 2 years, it has always made the final round however did have a blip a couple of years a go when it bombed down to 243rd. This is the first of two appearances by Mark Ronson in the finals, with ‘Nothing Break Like A Heart’ now his top placed song. The song was huge when it was first released and went to the top of the charts, for me it became a little overplayed as it was literally everywhere, however it is still a bop. 67 ** 259 Go_A - Shum 67- 17th, 2021 | 25th, SF1 One of the big successes of this years ROTD is Go_A’s ‘Shum’ managing to just qualify for each round and make it through to the final. The song finished in 25th place in Semi-Final 1 and made it through on very little votes, however very high rankings. In the final the same can sort of be said as it picked up just 10 votes, however finishes in 67th place and beating a number of songs which made it directly into the final round. The song was the Ukrainian entrant in the 2021 where it finished in 5th place, its good to see some unexpected songs make the final round and manage to push through, be interesting to see how it holds up in future ROTD’s. 66 130 259 Dua Lipa – Hallucinate 130-66- 11th, 2020 | 19th, SF2 At 66 ‘Hallucinate’ climbs 64 places and reaches a new peak in its second year. This is the first year ‘Hallucinate’ made the final round and is the 6th highest ranked Dua Lipa song. The song is lifted from Dua’s Future Nostalgia album and followed on from her massive hits ‘Don’t Start Now’, ‘Physical’ and ‘Break My Heart’.
October 12, 20222 yr Cardigan <3 best we've got so far, but it should be in the top 10 also nice to see Royals in <3 again, should be higher for me a bit of great, good and some terrible, don't get how songs as bad as Wish You Well, Hallucinate or Dont Call Me Up get top 100
October 12, 20222 yr Fantastic result for 'SHUM' after only scraping through the earlier rounds *.* I'm guessing it probably won't hold up that well in future years but glad it's being recognised for the mega banger that it is this year at least, easily one of my favourite Eurovision songs ever. Good to see the big improvements on debut for 'cardigan' and 'Hallucinate' (although the latter didn't quite make my votes).
October 12, 20222 yr JLf9q36UsBk 65 63 260 Mike Posner - I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix) 166-177-115-181-63-65- 9th, 2016 | 23rd, SF2 A drop of just 2 places for ‘I Took A Pill in Ibiza’, the song reached the final for the first time last year and gained an all-time high position at 63. This year it reaches the final round once again, but can’t quite manage to replicate its success in 2021. The song received a total of 10 votes in the final round, I’ll be honest not really one of my favourites, but it is good to see dance music represented in the final round. 64 78 261 Little Mix – Sweet Melody 78-64- 8th, 2020 | 20th, SF1 At 64 is the first and only appearance by Little Mix in the final – considering how well they used to do, it feels a bit like their popularity has waned slightly. Saying that though ‘Sweet Melody’ does in fact climb 14 places this year and reaches a new peak. The single was released towards the end of 2020 and was the last time they managed to achieve a number 1 single. Since then Jesy left and serious issues in the group were exposed, they have however gone on to enjoy more success as a 3 piece. 63 48 262 Kungs vs. Cookin On 3 Burners – This Girl 96-87-78-124-48-63- 5th, 2016 More dance music next as ‘This Girl’ slides 15 places this year, however is still at its second highest position. The song had a direct route to the final this year, finishing in 5th place in the 2016 hear, when it came to the final vote it gained a massive 16 votes. ‘This Girl’ was massive when it was released and went on to peak at Number 1; still a great summer bop and its good to see it still doing well in ROTD. 62 89 263 Clean Bandit (feat. Jess Glynne) – Rather Be 23-27-13-15-22-57-89-62- 11th, 2014 | 7th, SF2 The dance hits roll on as ‘Rather Be’ climbs 27 places this year and manages to recover the massive drop it had last year. ‘Rather Be’ is the first and only entrant by Jess Glynne and the final appearance by Clean Bandit in this years final. The song was an instant hit when it was released and really was the gateway for both artists to be a much more commercial success. Since this original collaboration, they’ve gone on to work together again, however never quite managed to match the success of this song. In recent times both artists have kind of lost their way; Clean Bandit being more miss and than hit recently and Jess not having the best of time since the Sexy Fish incident. 61 207 264 Taylor Swift – Out of the Woods xx-xx-247-299-157-104-207-61- 17th, 2014 | 18th, SF2 It’s been an excellent year for Taylor Swift on ROTD and this is highlighted here as another of her songs takes a big climb to reach a new peak. ‘Out of the Woods’ nearly made the finals a couple of years ago when it finished at 104, however this year it finished 18th in its semi-final and qualified for the final round. I’m not the biggest fan of Taylor, however seeing how many of her songs were qualifying this year I decided to check a few of them out… ‘Out of the Woods’ I thought was fantastic and duly gave it points in the final. A great pop song and its good to see it reach the final for the first time and hit new ground.
October 12, 20222 yr Nice to see Waves and Uptown Funk are still popular, likewise This Girl (not a #1 though sadly).
October 12, 20222 yr Really surprised 'Sweet Melody' hasn't yet done better in this - can still see it continuing to rise in future years though. Nothing I voted for in that batch. 'Language' with a new peak indeed *.* can it push for top 50 ~
October 12, 20222 yr 'Out of the Woods' is my favourite Taylor song, brilliant ascension this year *.* also happy with that 'MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)' debut and the new peak for 'The Hills'.
