October 19, 20222 yr Great for Sam as 17 going under is a 10/10 song, nice climb for Billie as thats a 9/10 song but i could'nt be bothered about the rest. Especially be the one which is oone of Dua's worst songs ever. Lets hope the future nostalgia material lands high :)
October 19, 20222 yr Author tollGa3S0o8 45 42 311 Lilly Wood and The Prick - Prayer In C (Robin Schulz Remix) 105-179-170-121-41-45-42-45- 7th, 2014 | 9th, SF2 Remaining in the 41-45 section for a fourth straight year we have ‘Prayer In C’, unfortunately stuck outside the top 40 for yet another year. Although, at least it didn’t take as big of a hit as ‘Waves’. This was the second of two Robin Schulz remixes that became huge hits in quick succession and once again is the higher of them. Lilly Wood never had another hit besides this however they are still going as a duo. 44 638 312 Taylor Swift - All Too Well xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-723-608-638-44-xx 6th, 2012 | 3rd, SF1 With the biggest leap in the whole contest we have ‘All Too Well’, the 4th of 8 entries for Taylor Swift. Originally a favourite album track amongst fans, it finally got pushed commercially as a single last year to promote the ‘Red’ album re-recording. Alongside a new version with additional verses pushing its runtime to 10 minutes and a music video, it landed in the UK chart at #3. The superior new version is what I imagine drove most of the votes for this to get a respectable peak to join her more well-established songs in the contest on its last opportunity. 43 20 316 Justin Timberlake - Mirrors 57-55-69-27-136-154-164-20-43- 4th, 2013 Having had a massive jump last year to 20th Justin Timberlake sings down to a still respectable 3rd-highest position of 43rd this year. ‘Mirrors’ became his sole #1 hit of the 2010s even with a lengthy runtime and will likely go down as his most well-regarded song on the forum. 42 43 317 Rihanna - Diamonds 238-166-69-264-111-52-51-44-43-42-xx 12th, 2012 | 2nd, SF1 Rihanna’s final opportunity to make the top 40 with ‘Diamonds’ sadly falls short however she once again manages to gain a new peak to finish the decade out. The song became her last #1 hit as a leading performer and remains one of her signature hits in a large catalogue. Perhaps next year she could have finally made it with help from her forthcoming Superbowl performance and the possibility of a musical comeback (finally), but oh well. 41 37 319 Lana Del Rey - Born To Die 104-119-189-26-19-29-67-36-37-41-xx 3rd, 2012 With ‘Video Games’ finishing its decade out in 3rd place last year you may perhaps have expected the title track of her debut ‘Born To Die’ to get a similar end of decade push. However, she has to settle for appearing just outside the top 40 (losing by tiebreak) albeit not far from her peak. This leaves only ‘Summertime Sadness’ of hers now in the running.
October 19, 20222 yr Author AoAm4om0wTs 40 98 319 Dua Lipa - New Rules 10-20-29-98-40- 4th, 2017 Starting off the top 40 we have a huge rebound for ‘New Rules’. It is the first of four of Dua’s titles in the top 40 and the only one to be taken from her self-titled debut. ‘New Rules’ was arguably the moment in her career where she proved herself as one of the biggest and most interesting pop stars of the moment, with the song climbing to UK #1 and also breaking America. It is pleasing that the song’s dip last year has proved to be only a fluke because this does not deserve to be overshadowed by her later material, it is still “woo, a bop”. 39 67 321 Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande - Rain On Me 67-39- 5th, 2020 Lady Gaga, now that ‘The Edge of Glory’ has seen out its decade, has ‘Rain On Me’ climbing in at #39 to continue her run of top 40 appearances in the contest. The track became her biggest hit of ‘Chromatica’ entering in at #1 with a little help from Ariana - who herself has four-and-a-half songs in the top 40 this year. Assisted by BloodPop and Burns on the song’s production it was her most upbeat dancey track in years. It is great to see this climb and assert itself as one of her most liked songs anyhow. 38 13 321 Bastille - Pompeii 46-101-28-31-23-65-19-13-38- 6th, 2013 | 4th, SF2 Dropping a fair bit this year however still managing to hold on to a top 40 position we have Bastille. It is the song’s 6th top 40 appearance having peaked last year. As one of my favourite guitar-based hits of the decade it is great to see this continuing to do well even if I’ve not been able to get into their more recent material. 37 35 323 Kygo (feat. Conrad Sewell) - Firestone 158-273-300-334-122-35-37- 7th, 2015 | 5th, SF1 Kygo managed a big jump into the top 40 last year and it appears that he’s kept all of his support now with ‘Firestone’ remaining stable in this section of the countdown. Kygo has been very disappointing in the last couple of years for the most part, however his debut single from back when he was a more exciting name remains brilliant and deserving of being one of the most well regarded EDM hits of the decade. 36 21 331 CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share 131-53-08-11-08-10-27-21-36- 3rd, 2013 No longer a top 10 contender, Chvrches now hit a new low since having gained a huge support boost in their third year. ‘The Mother We Share’ has always been assisted by a small dedicated base and this year is no exception, with nearly half its voters ranking it in their top 10 (this also goes for ‘Firestone’). The song was the band’s first of two top 40 hits and has always been by some distance their most well-regarded with fans on the forum.
October 19, 20222 yr In Billie terms, ‘Bad Guy’ is her third highest placed song and she still has 2 songs still to go, the song gained 19 votes in total which is more than some songs which made the top 20 (and even top 10). Wolf Alice for top 20 (or 10)
October 19, 20222 yr Prayer In C is pleasingly consistent here. That 638-44 climb for All Too Well looks a little odd for a song that's been knocking around since 2012 :D of course the 10 Minute Version released last year has transformed its fortunes and is the reason I voted for it, nice to see it finish on a high anyway. Diamonds and Born To Die are less ambiguously 2012 songs, I didn't have room for either in the final, but cool to see the former getting a new peak for a 5th year in a row while the latter was unlikely to improve on 19th a few years ago. Good to see New Rules back in the top 40. Big drop for Pompeii but it's now about where I placed it. Firestone is one of my favourite songs in the final, delighted it has managed another top 40 finish.
October 19, 20222 yr Kind of a shame that 'All Too Well' only gets to have one appearance in this post the release of its most popular version but ah well, glad that got it to finish on such a high. Aww at 'Born To Die' just missing the top 40 in its final year tho </3 Yay for the big rises for 'New Rules' and 'Rain On Me', two of the best pop songs of the decade. And glad CHVRCHES are still hanging on in the top 40 if not quite living up to their past glories.
October 19, 20222 yr I still maintain All Too Well (Taylor's Version) should be allowed to feature on its own after this for 2021 as I think this was considerably more impactful than her other re-recorded songs and has taken on a life of its own following this, it's a different case to her songs that were already big hits originally, guess that's a discussion for next year but if it is the last year, at least it can go out on a high! Shame for The Mother we Share falling so much :'(
October 21, 20222 yr EsemPUzuB44 35 ** 338 Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 U 35- 3rd, 2021 2021 was a massive year for Olivia Rodrigo with her breakout song ‘Drivers License’ surging to the top of the chart and her subsequent songs also dominating the charts quite hard. Knowing how ROTD and Buzzjack tend to be, I was expecting this ROTD to be very Olivia Rodrigo heavy in terms of qualifiers… I was wrong. ‘Good 4 U’ is the only song by Olivia Rodrigo to make it through to the finals and manages to debut in 35th place. The song finished 3rd in the 2021 heat, in the final it finishes in 4th place. ‘Good 4 U’ managed to gain 19 votes in total in the final round, which is quite high in comparison to some songs still to come. 34 213 339 Taylor Swift - Wildest Dreams 474-125-148-101-46-213-34- 4th, 2015 So the first of a bit of a Taylor Swift cull, however good news for all 3 songs in this section. ‘Wildest Dreams’ climbs a massive 189 places and hits a new peak at 34. The song has only made the final round on one previous occasion where it managed to get to 46th place, this year however its performance eclipses that. Taylor has had a very strong year in managing to get a number of her songs through to the final, some for the first time. ‘Wildest Dreams’ finished 4th in the 2015 heat, in the final it finishes 6th for that year. 33 65 350 Taylor Swift & Bon Iver – Exile 65-33- 6th, 2020 | 1st, SF1 Another Taylor Swift song anyone? This time is ‘Exile’ which manages to climb to reach a new peak. The song finished in 6th place in the 2020 heat before storming it way to the top spot of its semi-final to reach the final round for a second time. Last year the song debuted at 65, this year however it climbs 32 places to hit a new high at 33. As I previously mentioned I had a bit of a Taylor binge when I saw so many of her songs were making it through this year, and I wouldn’t consider myself a fan at all. However like ‘Out of the Woods’, ‘Exile’ stood out and it’s a great duet with Bon Iver. It seemed to have quite a bit of momentum going into the final round and gained 17 votes in total. Will be interesting to see if it continues to climb next year. ‘Exile’ is the third highest placed Taylor Swift song. 32 32 354 Carly Rae Jepsen – Run Away With Me 05-01-06-04-12-32-32- 2nd, 2015 A non-mover next in between all the Taylor Swift songs as former winner ‘Run Away With Me’ remains at its lowest position. The song is one of only 2 songs which have won ROTD and are still eligible (the other being last years winner), however given its drop over the years its seems unlikely ‘Run Away With Me’ is going to replicate its previous success. The song finished in 2nd place In the 2015 heat and finishes 5th overall for that year in the final round. ‘Run Away With Me’ is a great pop song and whilst it failed to reach the top 40 officially, its one of Carly’s best and probably my fave of her output. 31 57 359 Taylor Swift - Style 194-145-156-54-40-57-31- 3rd, 2015 Fancy another one? Yup another Taylor Swift song is out of the running in this batch, however ‘Style’ does manage to reach an all-time high. In the first 3 years the song was eligible it failed to make it through to the final, however in 2019 it reached the position of 54 before climbing to the top 40 at 40, this year however it climbs 26 places to sit just outside the top 30. ‘Style’ is the second highest Taylor Swift song, meaning just ‘Blank Space’ remains. I do wonder if with Taylor Swift there is a bit of oversaturation and too many of her songs make the final, so instead of one reaping success, they all sort of hinder each other from placing higher? But anyway still a great year for Taylor Swift in terms of new peaks.
October 21, 20222 yr 'Wildest Dreams' is another Taylor song I have come to appreciate more with the release of the re-recorded version, which I guess has helped it get a new peak here too, kinda surprised it is above 'All Too Well' though! 'exile' also a goodun from more recent T-Swizzle stuff (although both of those fell a little short of my votes, didn't vote for any of this section but I do like all of those songs). Happy to see 'Blank Space' rightfully the highest Taylor song!
October 21, 20222 yr BPgEgaPk62M 30 28 360 Hozier - Take Me To Church 199-252-343-495-112-28-30- 12th, 2015 | 6th, SF2 Kicking off the top 30 is ‘Take Me to Church’ which drops just 2 places this year. The song managed to reach the final for the first time last year and this year manages to replicate that success. ‘Take Me To Church’ didn’t have the strongest run this year, so its surprising to see it as the 3rd highest song from 2015 this year, beating songs which had a direct route to the final. I’ll be honest I’ve never been a big fan of the song, I can see why people like it but its not really my bag :D 29 91 363 Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (Original / Cedric Gervais Remix) 31-107-121-97-99-42-64-91-29- 5th, 2013 Last year Lana Del Rey had quite a big year, managing to get a large number of songs through to the final and one of her songs finish in the top 3. This year hasn’t been quite as strong for her, however ‘Summertime Sadness’ manages a massive climb and hits a new peak. ‘Summertime Sadness’ finished in 5th place in its heat and had a direct route to the final, it has reached the final round all but 2 years, however this year manages to hit a new high by 2 places and enter the top 30 for the first time. I really like the remix of this song and its good to see it finish so high, it is also the highest placed Lana song this year. 28 39 366 Tove Lo - Habits (Stay High) (Original / Hippie Sabotage Remix) 178-188-163-282-121-72-39-28- 2nd, 2014 At 28, ‘Habits’ climbs 11 places to hit an all-time high position. The song has had quite a run over the years, however, has only made the final round on the last 3 tries. In 2019 the song finished in 72nd place before raising to 39 last year, this year however it breaks the top 30 for the first time. The song finished in 2nd place in the 2014 heat, however finishes 3rd overall in the final for that year. In the final vote, ‘Habits’ actually gained 20 votes, which either matches or is more votes than a number of the top 20, holding it back is that quite a number of the votes were on the low side. 27 38 368 Dua Lipa - Levitating (Original / DaBaby Remix) 38-27- 4th, 2020 Completing a string of new peaks is ‘Levitating’ by Dua Lipa which climbs 9 places to reach an all-time high position. The song debuted at 38 last year and this year manages to eclipse that result and enter the top 30. ‘Levitating’ is the third highest ranked Dua song this year behind ‘Don’t Start Now’ and ‘Physical’; her ‘Future Nostalgia’ era completely eclipsing her first album. ‘Levitating’ finished 4th in the 2020 heat and also finishes 4th for 2020 songs in the final round. ‘Levitating’ is a great pop song… superior without DaBaby (IMO off course) and managed to give Dua another top 10 hit from the album. 26 61 372 Ariana Grande – One Last Time 182-07-02-08-18-61-26- 1st, 2015 Rounding out this section is ‘One Last Time’ which looked set to win ROTD a few years ago, however stalled in 2nd place. The song stormed through the 2015 heat where it finished in pole position, in the final though it is the second highest song from 2015. The song became massive after the Manchester bombing in 2017 after an Ariana Grande concert. Such an emotive song especially given the circumstances. The song initially debuted at 182 and climbed to reach the final for the first time the following year, it then remained in the top 10 for the next 2 year. However it has taken a series of drops over the years and hit a low point last year finishing at 61. This year it recovers and climbs 35 places, it is the 3rd highest Ariana Grande song behind ‘No Tears Left to Cry’ and ‘Into You’.
October 21, 20222 yr Tove Lo has SO much better than 'Habits (Stay High)' as great as that is. Happy to see a rebound for 'One Last Time'
October 21, 20222 yr Glad to see the recovery for 'One Last Time' and a trio of good tunes with new peaks there, excellent for Tove Lo in particular  The Hippie Sabotage remix is still my favourite song by her but she's released a few good tunes again this year after me not really caring much for her other material in the years between. 'Take Me To Church' is fab as well, actually think it's one that I've only grown to love even more over time.
October 21, 20222 yr Firstly, mind blown at some of these songs that BJ has ranked Wolf Alice higher than! Secondly, sad to see Exile out a little lower than I thought it might be, seemed to be having a very strong year. Pleased with a new peak for Habits. Less so with a new peak for Levitating, which I think is Dua's worst hit by a distance.
October 21, 20222 yr I possibly prefer those 3 Taylor songs reaching new peaks to Blank Space - in particular Exile, but it didn't quite make my vote in the final. Good 4 U did and I'm glad it's made its mark in the top 40. Those 3 songs at 30-28 are sublime - most pleasing to see Summertime Sadness at an all-time high, with it becoming a mainstay on Spotify this year too.
October 21, 20222 yr I love the triple Taylor in that section! I've always been a '1989' fan (thank goodness as I worked in HMV when it came out and they spammed it on repeat for a while x) and 'folklore' was a welcome switch-up, however, 'exile' the song itself was a bit of a slow burner for me - now I think it's absolutely stunning  'Take Me To Church' is another that I enjoy more as time goes on. Great to see the rebound for the beautiful 'One Last Time' this year. I am a Tove fan in general but I think the dark Hippie Sabotage remix of 'Habits' is still my favourite of hers. On the other hand, the 'Summertime Sadness' remix is not my favourite Lana song :kink: How incredible that Wolf Alice are still in this *.*
October 21, 20222 yr Great placings so far, controversial opinion - Take me to church deserved all of Ellie Gouldings weeks at no. 1 with Love Me Like You Do
October 21, 20222 yr Author well that's not really a controversial opinion here given Hozier is at 30th and Ellie didn't make it to the finals. :P
October 22, 20222 yr Author 5XR7naZ_zZA 25 19 373 Sia - Chandelier 52-14-30-43-90-10-19-25- 3rd, 2014 Taking a small swing down this year we have "Chandelier" which for the first time in three years is not Sia's highest ranked song. Having had a huge leap into the top ten in 2020, it continues its slow descent to 25th this year. With an impressive vocal and great writing behind it, it was no surprise that it turned into her first huge hit as a lead performer and remains fondly remembered now. She's had somewhat of a comeback in the US with 2016 track 'Unstoppable' reaching their top 40 this year so perhaps that could inspire her to finally make a comeback record (excluding her Christmas album, collab project and film soundtrack). 24 56 375 Taylor Swift - Blank Space 28-93-113-59-88-73-56-24- 4th, 2014 Taylor Swift's highest entry this year then is 'Blank Space' - despite having a load of entries here (or perhaps because she had so many entries), none of them manage to make the top 20. However this is a new peak for the track finally rising above its entry point. The song followed on from 'Shake It Off' to be another US #1 and UK top 5 hit and has since gone on to be generally the most remembered track from her '1989' album. It's not one of my personal favourites of hers but with such a big pop hook it makes sense for it to be out on top with the forum. 23 44 376 Mark Ronson (feat. Miley Cyrus) - Nothing Breaks Like A Heart 93-41-44-23- 2nd, 2018 Climbing into the top 40 at last we have Mark Ronson & Miley Cyrus' joint effort. Vastly outperforming 'Uptown Funk' this year and surpassing its contest peak, it became Mark's biggest hit of the 2nd half of the decade. For me it's one of his very best productions and also one of the few songs from Miley that I enjoy, giving a great vocal performance here. She of course still has one entry left in the running. 22 9 378 Lorde - Green Light 12-17-07-09-22- 1st, 2017 Dropping to its lowest position yet is 'Green Light'. Although Lorde did have two additional songs in the top 100 this year, this exits the top 20 for the first time in its run. It is still by some distance her best-regarded song on the forum though and with a fairly wide appeal - being one of 14 songs to have received 20 sets of points. With her more recent material not having lived up to fan expectations, it seems it will remain this way for the rest of its decade run. 21 50 384 Galantis - Runaway (U & I) 78-221-346-136-114-50-21- 9th, 2015 | 6th, SF1 One of the top-ranked EDM songs of the decade, Galantis shoot up to reach a new peak of 21st. The turnaround this has had in the past couple of years has been very pleasing to see. I also agree that it has aged very well as a big all-out dance anthem - their other hits didn't feel quite as special as this. The song's uncredited vocalists Julia Karlsson and Cathy Dennis can also say they've outdone Little Mix as Galantis collaborators, as 'Heartbreak Anthem' fell short of a final placement. It is the highest entry here from SF1 - four songs from SF2 are in the top 20.
