Posted November 15, 20222 yr iLpeP9jYF4E 'Everything I Wanted' was released as the second single from Dannii's 'Girl' on 20 October 1997. The song was produced by Metro and written by Mark Taylor, Steve Torch and Dannii - one of three songs on the album that she had a co-write in. Dannii had greater input in the music video, coming up with the concept with then-boyfriend Steve Shaw who filmed the video in black and white on a 16mm camera. The single missed out on the Top 40 in Australia, peaking at #44, but achieved #15 in the UK where it's Dannii's 10th best selling single. 25 years on, what are your thoughts and memories of 'Everything I Wanted'? 7wF8PmGApxo
November 15, 20222 yr The single that killed all the momentum. Its nice but the chorus is lack luster. I do love the music video though 😍
November 15, 20222 yr The ‘Girl’ campaign killer  It’s a great song and makes a good single but as a follow up to AIWD it was always going to struggle - they should’ve gone with Disrememberance as single 2 (one of my favourite Dannii tracks and relegated to single 3 to try and salvage the album by which point it was past saving :drama: )
November 16, 20222 yr Author Not one of my favourite Dannii single but I must admit it does really get stuck in my head after each listen, so it's definitely doing something right! I do think it was a mis-step having this as the follow-up to 'All I Wanna Do', 'Disremembrance' would have been much more appropriate with this being third single. Probably wouldn't have done much to turn the fortunes of the album around but perhaps 'Disremembrance' would have performed slightly better - I feel like only peaking six places lower than 'Everything I Wanted' despite the era being long since dead suggests potential. I do like the home-film video though.
November 16, 20222 yr I think they thought Disremembrance might be to leftfield for the second single! SILWY or HCW would have worked better! Edited November 16, 20222 yr by vibe
November 16, 20222 yr I don't think So In Love With Yourself would've worked as a single to be honest (it always struck me as a song that appealed to narcissistic gays who like calling out other narcissistic gays) - Heaven Can Wait, Disrememberance and Am I Dreaming always sounded like the obvious singles to me.
November 16, 20222 yr ^ completely disagree , the song would have appealed to anyone whom had a break up like her The remixes and video could have been awesome and created media interest.
November 16, 20222 yr I think it's a beautiful song, maybe 'Disremembrance' might have been a better second single choice but even then I'm not convinced it would've performed any better or revived the album - I genuinely think 'All I Wanna Do' was just a fluke for her at that time.
November 16, 20222 yr Even though I really prefer disremembrance it probably woukdnt have done much better despite it been a great song. All I wanna does feel a but of a fluke but whatever happened it worked and was the hut she needed.
November 16, 20222 yr 'Everything I Wanted' is a decent track but wasn't the right 2nd single choice in my opinion, it's more of a grower & may have worked better as the 4th single. My follow-up single choice would have been 'Heaven Can Wait' - its far more fun, catchy and memorable & could have kept the era's momentum going a little longer. The "Girl" singles run: AUG '97 - 'All I Wanna Do' OCT '97 - 'Heaven Can Wait' FEB '98 - 'Disremembrance' MAY '98 - 'Everything I Wanted' Plus keep 'Coconut' as an Australian only single. Also I would have brought 'Disremembrance' a month forward, instead of the 5 month gap it originally had from the previous single.
November 17, 20222 yr 'Heaven Can Wait' is a fave of mine but I really don't see that as a single. (Unless it was remixed or something) Edited November 17, 20222 yr by Jessie Where
