November 16, 20222 yr Okay well obvious optimism etc. but this is SUCH a banana skin fixture. Iran will be massively underrated despite being a top 20 ranked team and will be much more suited to the conditions, as it's a mid-afternoon KO local time. I think it's gonna be a draw this one but hopefully the lads prove me wrong!

Pickford Trippier Maguire Stones White Shaw Rice Bellingham Mount Sterling Kane Could see him starting Saka at left wing back in place of Shaw.

November 21, 20222 yr Sounds like 4 at the back and Saka starts. I don't rate Maguire in a 2 man central partnership, so interesting to see how we handle the Iranian strikers.
November 21, 20222 yr Don't worry about Maguire, completely different player in an England shirt much like Pickford. Glad Sterling is starting. He used to be a massive England flop (in fact, he's still never scored a World Cup goal) but his Euros performances last year were exceptional and more than earn him the right to play today.

I think we will go to 5 at the back when it gets to the knockouts and we play the biggest teams.

Can't help but feel we are under estimating Iran a little bit here, although I think with this group if we win it there is a much easier route rather than finishing 2nd, so maybe we're going gung-ho to avoid lots on that Wales match.
November 21, 20222 yr Author The pattern of this game appears to have been set early. Iran sitting back. England seeing a lot of the ball. Shaw hooks in from the left but there are a lot of red shirts in that box and one of them easily clears.
