Looking at the new entries, haven't heard of Winter Things or The Christmas Waltz, but I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas looks like one I should seek out, and Back Door Santa(?), also two Darlene Love songs but sadly neither are All Alone On Christmas, and did we really need more versions of SCICTT, IBTLALLC and Winter Wonderland. So long Heat Waves, we hardly knew ye </3

 

Just checked Amazon this morning and there's only one Christmas song left in the top 100 - 2000 Miles!

Re: 'Bel Mercy', now seems like a curious time to be sampling Kanye...

 

(well, sampling a song that was also sampled by Kanye technically, but given the Kanye song in question was called 'Mercy' and that word isn't in the sampled part it's obvious that Jengi was more inspired by Kanye than the original artist)

to be fair to Jengi the song was actually made in 2020 well before Kanye’s latest antics

it only recently got the sample cleared and released as it went viral on tiktok

The more interesting question of course is the shape of the top 5/10, the week after this one.

Oh the Jengi song I have heard on Radio 1 before, I didn't like it, in my opinion the shouting in it is a bit annoying and I think a lot of Buzzjack would agree with me.

Miguel's 'Sure Thing' (from 2011) has re-entered at a new peak of #64 today - I see it had been charting throughout late November and December so been viral for a while (I hadn't noticed it entering) but having its position obscured by Christmas songs. It's the 25th highest non Christmas song so looks like it may get a top 100 peak in the new year and perhaps top 40 if it gets a reset. It was a top 40 hit in the US on its original release but not charted here before.

 

Unfortunately looks like Tory Lanez' 'The Color Violet' will be getting a sizeable new peak tomorrow as well (re-entered at #116, current peak #109) <_< Trending TikTok songs remain unbothered by the news. (see also 'Bound 2' still sticking around and re-entering today)

The Burl Ives track has entered the top 5 in the US for the past few years (and apparently may get a new peak of #3 this week leapfrogging "that old Jingle Bells Rock thing" as Bjork puts it). I'm not really a fan of his voice, I actually prefer the Bublé version. But it's a pretty meh song either way.

 

US Top 10 now released and Old Burl Ives didn't make it in the end peaking at no.4 (behind Mariah, Brenda and Bob) but pleasingly Wham do make a new peak of no.5! :cheer:

 

'Jingle Bell Rock' and 'Holly Jolly Christmas' (latter of which is mercifully split between 2 artists to deflate its chart position in the UK) sound incredibly similar to each other especially the very basic chorus.

Fair, but also the only reason it’s anywhere near the top 40, let alone the top 10 is due to the Amazon Christmas version
