December 9, 20222 yr Why does anyone even care? The charts barely mean anything these days and the Christmas chart hasn’t meant anything for much longer. I mean, where is the alternative? Who is out there trying to stop it? I miss the run up to Christmas being full of seasonal releases-be them Wintery ballads or novelty hits. But this is just the time of year everyone except Ed Sheeran just gives up.
December 9, 20222 yr With the way the charts work these days, with most songs climbing to their peaks, there's very little point in artists releasing in Christmas week to contend for the top, while the likes of Lewis Capaldi release in advance and get swamped by Christmas songs on streaming. Charity releases which get good publicity are the only things that can shift big enough downloads in week 1 to be even remotely in contention. I agree that the Christmas chart is less exciting than it used to be but I don't think there's much that can be done. Doesn't excuse such dreadful tracks swiping the #1 though in my opinion, charity or otherwise (and come on, he's had 5 years now to come up with a new joke)
December 9, 20222 yr Ladbaby had to start from scratch in 2018 so there's no reason someone else completely random can't do it.
December 9, 20222 yr It continually happening for a new crisis every year and nothing changing in the interim is a depressing cycle, last year it was food banks, now it's the cost of living, at the rate he's going, we'll get Sausage Roll themed drought and flood relief songs when the effects of climate change take hold. The Kunts, though equally stale, can at least see what the real problem is and don't pitch themselves as saviours. All four so far have raised money for the same charity, The Trussell Trust, so he isn't just jumping on different charity bandwagons each year as you imply. Personally I like his singles, and I think plenty of people will remember them for years to come, particular the first one, but I do think if he can just get the overall record this year by getting a fifth then that might be the right time for him to draw a line under it as the law of diminishing returns will probably kick in at some point even if he manages to put out equally good parodies in future years.

In terms of trying to stop it, The Kunts are releasing a song, F*** the T*ries, which includes a version that directly attacks LadBaby. So they are the alternative. December 9, 20222 yr You're posting on a chart forum, mate. In terms of trying to stop it, The Kunts are releasing a song, F*** the T*ries, which includes a version that directly attacks LadBaby. So they are the alternative. Ok, ‘mate’, I’ve been posting here for almost 17 years, I’m very well aware it’s a chart forum. You’re deliberately missing my point. Why does anyone still care to this extent? The Christmas chart is a dead concept now. It’s full of the same Christmas classics every year and the chart just doesn’t work the way it used to. Streaming has rendered Christmas no.1 meaningless so why does anyone care that Ladbaby scoops it up every year?

December 9, 20222 yr If it didn’t mean anything Ladbaby wouldn’t be so obsessed with getting Xmas #1’s Is it an obsession or is it just taking advantage of a barren market?
December 9, 20222 yr Ok, ‘mate’, I’ve been posting here for almost 17 years, I’m very well aware it’s a chart forum. Because if LadBaby didn't take it every year, we'd have some really good songs getting the Christmas number 1. If LadBaby hadn't released his songs, these would have all been Christmas Number 1: 2018: Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho 2019: Stormzy, Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy - Own It 2020: Mariah Carey - AIWFCIY 2021: Ed Sheeran and Elton John - Merry Christmas Everyone So it's not even like the last 4 years would have all been old Christmas songs as the Christmas Number One! I'd have much preferred all of these 4 than LadBaby's shite.

I definitely contest the notion of any Ed Sheeran no.1 being described as ‘great’. My point is that Christmas no.1 isn’t important anymore and hadn’t been for almost 20 years so I just don’t get why people are getting so agitated about it.
December 9, 20222 yr I don't think it's tough to see why people are getting agitated at cheap "sausage roll" cover versions performed by people who can't sing storming to #1 each year :kink:
December 9, 20222 yr I don't think it's tough to see why people are getting agitated at cheap "sausage roll" cover versions performed by people who can't sing storming to #1 each year :kink: Well of course you don’t. But I guess my agitation is just reserved for things that actually matter.
December 9, 20222 yr As much as I do actually like the ladbaby songs I so think it's becoming an ego thing as such the last 2 years he was stopping at 3 then 4
December 9, 20222 yr Well of course you don’t. But I guess my agitation is just reserved for things that actually matter. There's no need to be patronising about what "matters" - people are allowed to dislike and be "agitated" about things that happen in the charts no matter how important they may or may not seem.

My point was that circumstances aren't changing year on year and things are only getting worse, and his motives are well-intentioned, but ultimately isn't fixing the problem. Also...I think most of his songs are forgotten now. I wouldn't say Ladbaby has had any impact on popular culture as Christmas number 1s have, I'd estimate quite a lot of the non-chart following public wouldn't know him.

I wouldn't say Ladbaby has had any impact on popular culture as Christmas number 1s have, I'd estimate quite a lot of the non-chart following public wouldn't know him. Agree I remember when Rage Against The Machine got number 1 but I couldn’t sing any of LadBaby’s Christmas songs from the past 4 years. The hype completely passed me by. I did get a Greg sausage roll sticker that was going spare after their book launch in WHSmith though.

Sounds like you are giving an opinion here which is fair enough. Imo last years Ed and Elton Xmas songs was a decent effort. Surely it still matters regarding the Xmas no1 considering the top 5 sales last Xmas sold 50k plus and the no1 sold 136k.
December 10, 20222 yr I know the reasons behind the songs are noble but I just can’t help but think now they’re releasing these songs more for themselves. They already have 4 Christmas #1’s, do they really need to keep attempting to get anymore? Go away.
December 10, 20222 yr There's no need to be patronising about what "matters" - people are allowed to dislike and be "agitated" about things that happen in the charts no matter how important they may or may not seem. And I’m also allowed to express how I feel and what I think about the situation too so please don’t patronisingly tell me how people are allowed to feel. I haven’t actually said they can’t feel that way, I’m just probing into ‘why’ which is perfectly allowed on a discussion forum unless I’m mistaken somehow.
