Iz has it spot on - "can't sing" is generally subjective and I probably shouldn't have said that in my initial post as it's a bit of a lazy way of saying exactly what Iz meant. He's not a singer and I don't think it's tough to see the reason for that. Comparisons to Anne-Marie and Mimi Webb are strange and completely missing the point.

(And yes they may not have stated they want to do that, but why would you be ok making shite music that will break a record set by a band who are acknowledged as one of the biggest ever?). i’m no fan of them but from a charity perspective there’s little point in them releasing on any other week of the year - christmas number one is the time of the year the chart race gets the most publicity so optimal time for them to sell their record

Ed Sheeran has broken goodness knows how many chart records but people still acknowledge that he’s not as talented as many artists. Being no.1, especially at Christmas, is never indicative of your musical talent.

I know xmas number 1 is not indicative of talent. I just think that, in my opinion, you shouldnt break records with absolute crap. If at least the crap held on for a few weeks I might understand, but they don't.

If only people could just donate to charity instead. I get the idea of 'getting something back' in the same way as telethons provide entertainment to encourage donation but when it's the same shit reheated for the fifth time people don't usually fall for it. Right?

It's a good point that LadBaby, as charitable as they clearly are, only bother when they can get a Christmas #1 out of it. They have status and a platform so could easily nab a #1 at any other time of year if they wanted to raise money. There's definitely an ego boosting aspect to it.

I’m not refuting that people care, I’m explaining why they release at Christmas and no other time of the year.

 

I’m not even a Ladbaby fan but I do think people are projecting what they want to see on to this situation. They’re doing it because they can, they enjoy it and it raises money for a good cause. It’s not their fault that it seems to take off every single time.
