Biography

Liberating grime from its London domicile in the mid-2010s, Bugzy Malone firmly implanted Manchester on the UK rap map with confessional storytelling in an unmistakable Mancunian gruff. Born Aaron Davis in Greater Manchester in 1990 to a single-parent mother, a young Bugzy Malone followed in his uncle’s criminal footsteps. After being expelled from school and enduring homelessess as a teen, Malone finally escaped Manchester street life after a prison sentence at the age of 16 served as a catalyst. Turning his life around as an amateur boxer before deciding upon a full-time career in rap, Malone released his introspective debut EP, Walk With Me, in 2015, a territorial reworking of grime whose title track installed his area’s calling code (0161) as a regional rap mantra. Its follow-up, 2016’s Facing Time, found Malone wrestling with the rigors of fame and unbosoming himself of traumatic stress, themes he would expand upon in 2017’s resolute declaration of provincial sovereignty, King of the North. Malone’s independent success was ratified in 2018 with his first full-length album, B. Inspired, a proper fusion of grime, Afro-swing, speed garage, and hip-hop, typified by “Die By the Gun,” a reflective third-person tale of the turbulent Manchester street life he fortuitously left behind to become a trailblazer for Northern hip-hop. - Apple Music

Amazed The Darkness is never top 40 year after year. Don't think it has re-entered there since release year. A modern Xmas classic criminally overlooked.

They are the originals and standards so fine with me. In 50 years people will say that about wham and Mariah potentially!

This came out of nowhere. Oh well, not really :drama:

This is a bop tbf, but I can't have it beating queen Raye.

I'd be surprised if there's much of a fight really, RAYE's already miles ahead and I don't think this is making up enough ground to overtake in a couple of weeks!

Out of Nowhere is such a banger though *.*

I watched that this afternoon

What a show, also Run DMC at the start!

The non Christmas songs (minus The Kunts) are;

SZA

Central Cee

Raye

Taylor

Is that it? I think Venbee/Meghan have gone ACR right?

Again due to playlisting audience sadly. I'd love it to return for one year at least! :(

Biography

Eccentric pop genius Ulysses Adrian "Roy" Wood developed the Electric Light Orchestra out of the Move, a truly great British band in an era of great British bands. However, because of a rift with Jeff Lynne, Wood left ELO after the debut No Answer and created Wizzard, a bizarre octet who debuted at a 1972 Wembley Rock 'n' Roll Festival and then captured the airwaves with "Ball Park Incident." Wizzard landed two chart-toppers overseas, "See My Baby Jive" and "Angel Fingers." Chaotic but always melodic, Wood built a unique wall of sound around these and other dandies like "Rock and Roll Winter" and perennial winner "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day." Wizzard even jabbed the ascending ELO with "Bend Over Beethoven."

In the center of this insanity, Wood sported multi-colored beard and mane, added a star to his forehead, and covered his face (perhaps inspiring fan Paul Stanley) with warpaint, sprinkles, or innumerable other oddities. Wizzard seemed to only maintain success with singles however, and the Introducing Eddie and the Falcons LP, a tribute to early rock icons like Del Shannon, Gene Vincent, and Cliff Richard, proved to be Wizzard's final work. Manager Don Arden enjoyed stadium success in the U.S., but Wizzard folded when management decided not to increase financing. Wood kept bassist Rick Price and saxophonist Mike Burney for the Wizzo Band, whose jazz-funk wafted beyond commercial confines for a lone effort, Super Active Wizzo. Wizzo expired in 1978, Wood continuing his concurrent solo career and basically dropping out of sight, reappearing periodically to perform with disciples Cheap Trick. - Spotify
