I don’t start to play Christmas songs until December, and they’re not in heavy rotation until a week or two before Christmas Day. Maybe this is why I don’t feel like letting go of them as soon as Christmas Day is over, I’m not tired of them yet. I’m still happy to hear Christmas music at the end of December! I played a couple of Christmas albums on the 27th.

I find Boxing Day to December 30th to be quite slow & way less busy than the direct run up to Christmas Day, it’s a bit of a lull, so I feel like there’s more time to relax and appreciate Christmas at that point, even more so than beforehand! Judging by the collapse of Christmas songs on streaming I’m clearly not in the majority, but I don’t mind that.

I do tend to let go of it all by New Year’s Eve though. In the past couple of years it’s actually been the Radio 1 chart show that marks the last time I hear Christmas songs for the year!

Christmas music in November and certainly October will always feel a bit alien to me even though I’m very much “live and let live” and if people get into the spirit that soon, then by all means go for it. I doubt that’ll ever be me though. In my childhood (1990s/early 2000s) even 1st December didn’t feel like full blown Christmas time yet. Like T Boy said, I’d usually start to feel it a week or two before Christmas Day, due to some activities at school beginning to embrace the festive period, and then the end of term really felt like it was properly time for full blown festivities. So I guess that feeling has carried with me into adulthood.

By the way we don’t take the Christmas tree down until January! I live with my parents and they like observing the 12 days of Christmas tradition. I think whenever I no longer live with them I’d probably choose to take them down on New Year’s Day. Boxing Day seems too soon to me.

I usually start listening to Christmas music around Christmas Eve/ Chiristmas Day, and keep going until the 6th Jan.
Ah of course although I'm sure I heard 'Tragedy' far more than 'Heartbeat' even before Christmas as the latter didn't really take off (although I prefer it). I guess also Atomic Kitten 'Last Goodbye/Be with You' would count.

Back to the original thread, I've actually had more time on my hands today so have listened to Christmas/Winter albums by the likes of Tori Amos/Kate Bush and Sia today. I simply wouldn't have the time to listen to those during the pre Christmas build up. In fact you need a truly lazy day to listen to Kate's '50 Words of Snow'.

I’m going to start listening to old Xmas albums next November, always heard the Charlie Brown one is a US classic!

Listened to Phil Spectors standard a few years ago, obviously a classic!

Anyone still going? :kink: I think I'll say goodbye to Christmas music after today though, and turn my attention back to the hits of the year!

I wouldn't actively ask Alexa to play Christmas music after Christmas Day, and when a repeat of The Masked Singer was on earlier and they were playing a Christmas song, it grated a little bit.

I like the decorations to stay up untill NYD, but apart from a couple of meet ups with mates, I'd say Christmas is done now for another year.

This weekend will be the end for me! I will give a couple spins tonight and tomorrow as I’ve just got in from my annual Christmas trip with my best friends, and we’re seeing friends for a Christmas get together this weekend too but from Monday no more lol

I usually listen to my Christmas music up until 5th Jan when I give the last spin to the Xmas album I’ve been listening to that year, but certainly a lot less than the build up. No offence as each to their own but listening to Xmas music from 1st Nov is a bit strange or alien to me. It’s still autumn then!

Also take the décor down on 5th Jan. think it’s a very council estate thing to put them up on 1st Nov and then take them down on Boxing Day!

I'm very much the same as you Jay - next weekend is when my decs will come down, and I still have the Christmas music on at the moment.
