Posted December 31, 20222 yr Just wondering, with album vinyls sales growing and disrupting the album chart, is there any chance singles may also take off (7" and 12')? They also work well as collectibles, are cheaper, good up-sales for online stores (particularly artist own stores I think) and may plug gaps in factory production schedules? I would welcome something that could mix things up with sales. Having said that, I probably wouldn't buy any. I have about 200 albums from the 80s and 90s, but have not bought one since the resurgence started.
December 31, 20222 yr Only if the prices become more reasonable. Universal has been pricing 7” singles at £15.99 recently.
December 31, 20222 yr But the ones that Harry Styles, George Ezra, Lewis apaldi were selling were reasonably cheap, right? or maybe I'm thinking cd singles
December 31, 20222 yr I think it would work in some cases - maybe for your Taylor Swift and Harry Styles acts - but not as a universal thing. Like Girls Aloud just bought out "Sound of the Underground" again on 7" vinyl to raise money for Sarah Harding's Breast Cancer Foundation, and it did work in that context cause it was commemorative. Jay's right though if it's £15.99 a time that's a bit ridiculous. My local record store has vinyl albums on sale at that price at the moment!
December 31, 20222 yr Author It 'could' give some of the artists a chance at a top 40 placing which they will never get from streaming, in turn leading to slightly better and longer album chart runs due to the increased awareness. I guess if it becomes commercially viable it'll happen. I didn't realise it was to some degree (as per the other posts).
January 1, 20232 yr I don’t think they’ll make me purchase them really. I only bought Girls Aloud’s because of the Sarah charity thing.
January 1, 20232 yr Classic singles by fanbase artist at say £7.99 a pop on 7 inch should be a no brainer.
January 1, 20232 yr Like others I would definitely be interested in collecting more often if the prices came down! I have enough of them to warrant a small wooden crate but haven't bought many in recent times, the Girls Aloud 'Sound of the Underground' pressing was an exception as their catalogue is woefully underrepresented on vinyl and I was happy to contribute to charity for Sarah.
January 1, 20232 yr but also it would even more interesting if they included new b-sides unavailable anywhere else, that's what bands did back in the day
January 1, 20232 yr I would def be interested if the price was right and I also agree about the b side, that was another draw to buying singles as you couldn't get the b side elsewhere and artists have loads of left over songs from album sessions tgat they could easily add a b side.
January 1, 20232 yr Yes i would welcome the return of vinyl singles if the price was right i feel on the whole vinyl is way too expensive Only vinyl albums i've been purchasing are the NOW yearbooks, and the recent NOW Christmas album Occasionally i buy the odd album by a particular artist. Think i bought Steps and Kylie on Vinyl and Duran Duran's latest.
January 1, 20232 yr The issue with making the b-side exclusive to vinyl is we never really get a HQ rip!
January 1, 20232 yr The issue with making the b-side exclusive to vinyl is we never really get a HQ rip! War flashbacks to Memory of You on the Girls Aloud The Loving Kind vinyl! (Thankfully it was only a few months later that it got included in a CD release)
January 1, 20232 yr War flashbacks to Memory of You on the Girls Aloud The Loving Kind vinyl! (Thankfully it was only a few months later that it got included in a CD release) That was my thinking! And don’t forget Loving Is Easy on Wake Me Up!
January 1, 20232 yr I’m only really interested in 12” singles with extended mixes or dance mixes. So I doubt we’ll be getting those anytime soon in the 2 minute single era
