Yes it's back, the title says it all, a thread designed to "best guess" the sales week by week for 1994. We'll count down all the sounds of the year and hopefully generate a few "almost forgotten gems" along the way. As always thanks go to MFR, Vas tariner, Youtube, Wikipedia, MW, popscene, James Masterton, Discogs, and a few other sources who have helped over the years. Here's the links to to the 90s threads if this isn't your year!

1990
1991
1992
1993

In doing this I've tried to take into account TOTP performances and other factors which may have effected sales and chart positions throughout the decade.

The Internet can't tell me everything so I'm relying on the Buzzjack oldies to throw in some pertinent facts that I may be unaware of (I was only 13 when the decade began) and to discuss the tracks. The format will be the same every week with TOTP performances where available for those songs new to the top 10. So sit back and enjoy every top 10 hit of the 90s (eventually) because Love was really all around in

1994 is by far my favourite year for albums. There were classics being released several times a month and 3 albums released in August were pivotal moments in 90s music and changed the direction of their genre for many years to come, decades, some would say.

Singles-wise it was fine too and I look forward to this greatly.

Incidentally I'm using the original figures from 1994 not the revised figures (in case anyone wonders).

2 Cranberries - No Need to Argue

3 Massive Attack - Protection

4 Portishead - Dummy

5 Blur - Parklife

6 Oasis - Definitely Maybe

7 Pulp - His n Hers

8 Suede - Dog Man Star

9 Therapy - Troublegum

10 Prodigy - Music for the Jilted generation

Can't say i'm familiar with Therapy tbh, but given your 9 other excellent choices i'll trust you on that one.

I think it just has all that was great about the 90s. Blur, Oasis, Suede and the Manics all released their big statement - inarguably. Electronic music moved into an albums medium.
I’d happily add The Cross if Changes, dubnobasswithmyheadman, Ill Communication, Amber, CrazySexyCool, Crooked Rain Crooked Rain, 76:14 and Live Through This
