The bowl cut, bell-bottoms, and pink-and-purple windbreaker all seem calculated to confuse. Yet the ample pleasures of his unusual brand of tongue-in-cheek pop are right there on the surface. Born Oliver Tree Nickell in Santa Cruz, California, in 1993, he got his start as Tree on Belgium’s Apollo Records—an early home to Aphex Twin—in 2013, pairing warbly sing-speaking with folktronica beats. Three years later, he reappeared as Oliver Tree, bringing emo energy to “When I’m Down,” a collaboration with pop-EDM producer Whethan, then returned in 2017 with “Welcome To LA,” which poked fun at the city’s superficial reputation. Over the next few years, he developed the Oliver Tree character in wry lyrics paired with irresistible electro-pop hooks. In his viral hit “Alien Boy,” he sings from the perspective of an extraterrestrial—a proud misfit and slyly unreliable narrator with an “eagle beak” and “ostrich feet”—but on the grunge-flavored “Hurt,” another standout from 2020’s Ugly is Beautiful, he makes a more heartfelt admission: “I’m sorry if I hurt you.” As an entertainer, he’s fully committed to the bit. In an interview with Apple Music, he claimed to have spent 27 months engineering a 20-foot-tall scooter that he rides using stilts. But he serves universal truths alongside his tall tales. Adopting a philosophical tone, he told Apple Music, “You’re never going to be truly happy if you can’t learn to accept yourself the way you are.” - Apple Music Robin Schulz In a matter of two short years, producer/DJ Robin Schulz rose to prominence as one of the definitive artists of the post-EDM boom of the 2010s. Born in Osnabrück, Germany, in 1987, Schulz cut his teeth on the local DJ circuit as a teenager, quickly landing his own club night as a 20-year-old tastemaker. Inspired by his breakout success behind the decks, he soon pivoted to production, releasing a handful of buzzing originals and remixes. But once he dropped his 2014 internationally chart-topping remix of "Waves" by Dutch singer/rapper Mr. Probz, he became next in line to claim the DJ throne. The song itself, a downtempo pop ballad turned into a chilled-out, sun-soaked house jam, helped birth and popularize tropical house, an EDM microgenre that ruled festival stages and charts around the world. Indeed, Schulz's feel-good take on dance music—bright, bouncy pop melodies and catchy vocals atop a deep house framework—defined the then-nascent sound. But where other producers were boxed in by the sonic trend, Schulz transcended it, expanding into pop territory. His remix-heavy 2014 debut album, Prayer, saw him reworking dance-friendly pop acts like Lykke Li and Coldplay, while 2015's Sugar featured collaborations with Akon and Moby. His third full-length, 2017's Uncovered, put Schulz’s production prowess on full display: Mixing lush melodies and powerful vocals into his singular blend of pop-meets-dance, the album fulfilled his crossover potential. Just look to "Shed a Light," alongside fellow dance-pop stars David Guetta and Cheat Codes, and "OK," featuring UK crooner James Blunt, and you'll know why Schulz remains two steps ahead on the global dance floor. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Oliver Tree 2021 33 Life Goes On -1- 2022 03 Miss You (Oliver Tree & Robin Schulz) -NAS- 0 x #1 | 1 x Top 5 | 1 x Top 10 | 1 x Top 20 | 2 x Top 40 | 2 x Top 100 Robin Schulz 2014 01 Prayer In C (Lillywood & Robin Schulz) -1- MILLIONAIRE 2015 96 Headlights (feat. January 13, 20233 yr Yay for JVKE creeping up another place, hopefully still top 20 in the coming weeks. Cian Ducrot's actually somewhat good song nearly outpeaking 'All For You' already is good to see too, and hooray for another big climb for Stephen Sanchez, perhaps a future top 10! Grrr at 'Creepin'' just missing out again, hope it doesn't get stuck with the dreaded #11 peak. Glad to see Miguel's label did come to their senses after all, the song passed me by on its original release but finally heard it last night and it is quite an earworm - 2023 charts are 2 for 2 so far on having belated top 40 new entries for early 2010s songs after 'Bloody Mary' last week  And not heard it yet but hooray for 'Rumble' giving Fred again.. a first top 20 as a named artist. (And in a different era it probably would have been the first for Skrillex too as he was probably only named individually on 'Where Are Ü Now' alongside the Jack Ü billing for streaming visibility lol) Wondering if 'listening to Blonde' JVKE means the Bristol duo from the mid 2010s :dancing: Although prob means a Frank Ocean song! Album, not song! It doesn't have a title track. Poor Miguel didn’t get given a reset. He should’ve been given one seeing as he would’ve had a new peak if he did Aside from the fact that resets have nothing to do with new peaks and no amount of repeating this ad infinitum changes that, it would have had a new peak either way... Really like Until I Found You - hope its recent Spotify collapse proves to have been just a glitch. I think there's a decent chance it was just being wrongly combined with the piano version in which case it won't have actually lost any streams.
January 13, 20233 yr I'm really addicted to "Miss You" recently even this inferior version. Yeah its those Baby D - Let Me Be Your Fantasy style intro synths which I like about it most!
January 13, 20233 yr Calm Down’s had amazing longevity now - was a really slow climb before its first Top 10 run. Still sounds really good.
January 13, 20233 yr Author 07 | 05 | 12th week Meghan Trainor Made You Look 2nd single from Takin' It Back Released: 21st October 2022 Label: Epic Records Chart Statistics NE (03/11/2022) | 28-14-8-4-3-2-7-12-23-66-5-7 Sales: 300k+ Certification: Silver Status: Standard Chart Ratio 01 Sales 04 Audio Streaming 03 Video Streaming Video gPCCYMeXin0 Biography Even before she dropped her debut single in 2014, Meghan Trainor already had it made. By that point, the 20-year-old Nantucket native had achieved the dream of many aspiring singer/songwriters: to infiltrate the inner sanctum of Nashville’s Music Row. But as it turns out, co-writing songs for country stars like Rascal Flatts and Hunter Hayes was the warm-up for what came next. Upon its release in the summer of 2014, Trainor’s first solo single, “All About That Bass,” swiftly became the most inescapable pop earworm of the year, thanks to a rump-shaking, retro-R&B sound that filled the void vacated by the late Amy Winehouse and a then-dormant Adele. But not only did the song transform Trainor into an instant, cross-generational pop star, its celebration of plus-size physiques made her a spokesmodel for body positivity at a time when there were few such role models in the entertainment industry. (And that motivational ethos would make her a natural choice to judge singing-competition shows like The Voice UK.) With the release of the full-length Title in 2015, Trainor became just the 13th woman in pop history to have both her first single and first album go to No. 1 on the Billboard charts, but on the follow-up, Thank You, she proved she was no mere throwback artist, as singles like “Me Too” and “No” updated her old-school aesthetic for modern-day dance floors. And on 2020’s Treat Myself, she further immersed herself in contemporary club sounds, applying her Aretha-sized sass to the synth-pumped thump of “No Excuses” and EDM-washed “Wave.” But even as her muse has drifted from Motown to Minaj (who turns up on the ASMR&B duet “Nice to Meet Ya”), Trainor’s self-help mission remains on course. “Every message that I give when I’m writing songs, it’s all to me,” she told Apple Music, where she also hosts Dirty Pop Radio. “I keep listening to these songs and I keep having to remind myself, ‘baby girl, love yourself.’” Trainor’s ongoing success lies in her ability to find new and creative ways to translate those personal affirmations into communal anthems. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2014 01 All About That Bass -1- MILLIONAIRE 2014 02 Lips Are Movin -2- 2015 20 Dear Future Husband -3- 2015 01 Marvin Gaye (Charlie Puth feat.
