Biography

Like his occasional sparring partner Drake, the rapper-singer-producer Tory Lanez is a natural omnivore, an artist who manages to soak up sounds from across the spectrum of hip-hop—from ’90s slow jams to 2010s trap, Caribbean dancehall to Canadian R&B—and spin it into something uniquely his own. Born Daystar Peterson in 1992, Lanez bounced around as a kid (Toronto, Montreal, Miami, Atlanta) before settling in Toronto in his early teens. His break came in 2009, when a string of self-directed videos he’d uploaded to YouTube caught the attention of Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston, the latter of whom gave Lanez a shot at a deal. Lanez quickly established himself as prolific and hard-hustling, kicking out as many as four mixtapes a year, demonstrating an unusual versatility as both a singer and a rapper. His first album, I Told You, came out in 2016; two more—MEMORIES DON’T DIE and LoVE me NOw—followed in 2018, amidst high-profile features with Future, Sean Paul, Rick Ross, and Ty Dolla $ign. “I’ve got to tailor my style in a way that’s just like, you can’t trace it and can’t detect it,” Lanez told Apple Music about how he pulls his sound together. “I wanted to be able to trace it in a way where it was like, for me, just something that people were going to listen to and be like, ‘Yo, there’s so many things here that I can’t even hate on this.’” - Apple Music

Oh wow P!nk finally actually making it in. Now it can go away and let 'TRUSTFALL' be a hit instead please :kink: But seriously, well deserved for the song after that chart run even if I'm not a fan of it musically.

'STAY' getting a 25% stream increase from the Fortnite concert then?

yay for Sub Focus climbing! could end up having fairly decent top 40 longevity like the Wilkinson track from last year I guess then

Naturally STAY still bangs, still getting regular spins from me (81 weeks in my personal top 40 and counting, a record). Love that it's back in the top 40
It'll be from the hype of his fortnite concert. Sicko Mode did the same when Travis Scott did a concert in 2020 (two years after release)

But where have the numbers come from? Which platform?

It just does not compute.

Good to see Sub Focus & Dimension getting another week.

Yes it will be this, STAY's had a boost on streaming (it won't be a manual reset)

Biography

Dermot Kennedy’s rip-roaring, free-flowing folk-pop grew out of years singing over rowdy crowds at local bars and open mics and in the streets of Dublin. Born in 1991, the singer/songwriter was raised in the small Irish village of Rathcoole, where he began writing songs as a teenager before studying classical music at Maynooth University and forming folk band Shadows and Dust. He soon set off on his own, busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street, the same spot favored by famous street musicians like Glen Hansard, The Frames frontman and Once actor. Kennedy built up his raspy, throat-ripping howls on the pavement, but found his largest following online after he self-released romantic ballads like 2015’s “An Evening I Will Not Forget” and 2016’s “After Rain”. A larger audience exposed him to a few key producers, including Stephen Kozmeniuk (Koz) and Mike Dean, both of whom have helped enhance the poetic intimacy of Kennedy’s songwriting with rumbling beats and expansive electronic production. Finding a delicate balance between soaring folk and understated hip-hop has been the key to Kennedy’s sound, starting with his 2019 debut album, Without Fear. His strengths come in turning quiet melodies into rousing anthems, including “Power Over Me”, a propulsive paean that captures the intoxicating rush of becoming enraptured, and “Outnumbered”, which feels almost gospel-like in its cathartic chorus. Meanwhile, his voice—a slightly weathered mix of grit and gravel—ties it all together, bringing the raw intensity he learned as a busker to pop charts around the world. - Apple Music

It just does not compute.

It passed me by all week but seemingly it did have a huge Spotify boost this week thanks to the Fortnite thing I also forgot about, it's up 61 places to #57 in the Spotify weekly chart

It just does not compute.

It's back in the top 75 on Apple (wasn't top 100 before the Fortnite show) and has almost re-entered the Spotify top 50 so this actually feels about right for a low top 40 position with an automatic reset.
