Posted February 2, 20232 yr What moments in the 00's were controversial for you This goes for anything not just music btw and can include ones separate from any obvious examples.
February 2, 20232 yr Author For me it would be the Shilpa Shetty racism stuff on Big Brother. Also another pretty obvious one people still remember is Kanye grabbing the mic from Taylor during her acceptance speech at the VMA's 2009!
February 2, 20232 yr Victoria losing out to Spiller in 2000 was a shock - especially as she had been midweek number 1 all week!
February 2, 20232 yr Madonna + Britney's kiss Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction Ashlee Simpson and the SNL incident X-Factor vs Rage Against the Machine David Blaine in a glass box above the Thames Kinga and the wine bottle I don't know if some of those can be deemed "controversial" but were definitely all very hot topics of conversation.
February 2, 20232 yr Author Oh yeah I remember that one very well. Makosi and Craig in the same series as well and the hostile interview!
February 2, 20232 yr Big Brother’s Fight Night was another… but looking back now it doesn’t seem as bad as what it was made out to be then!
February 2, 20232 yr Big Brother really did throw up a lot of controversial moments, didn't it - or at least a lot of moments that the media could blow up as controversial. Fight Night came to my mind too... I remember videoing something else and I left the tape running so got to see what they broadcast live at the time. They cut away from the scenes but you could still hear the arguing for a while and it was quite uncomfortable to listen without seeing what was going on.
February 2, 20232 yr Or Nasty Nick - he wrote a few names on a piece of paper and it was a national scandal
February 2, 20232 yr Victoria losing out to Spiller in 2000 was a shock - especially as she had been midweek number 1 all week! OMFG THIS!!! Spiller isn't even remembered these days, whilst OOYM is played on SG tours, on throwback playlists, played at clubs etc!! The wrong song won and only won due to PRESS MANIPULATION AND PROPAGANDA!!!! She should have releases 2 weeks later. Poor VB!! HUGE SCANDAL and one of the most controversial moments of rhe 00s and I'm srill not over it. In fact due to press propaganda, we can say VB gor the no.1! It's just like how with God Save The Queen, when the press ravaged itband rhe charts company cheates ro keep it at 2, we can say it was also no.1.
February 2, 20232 yr The controversy was that it fell behind after leading all week but the end result was really a relief. A naff Victoria Beckham song defeating an instant classic like Groovejet to no.1 may have made sense back then but would have been absolutely scandalous in hindsight.
February 2, 20232 yr The Jerry Springer musical shown on BBC Two. Spooks Deep Fat Flyer Incident Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross Prank Call to Andrew Sachs on Radio 2 Those were controversial TV moments from what I can remember.
February 2, 20232 yr Can't say I hear Out Of Your Mind anywhere these days, but Groovejet is very regularly still on rotation pretty much everywhere. I'd say the right song won that battle, as much as I'd have liked to have seen VB get a No.1 hit - either with Let Your Head Go/This Groove, or by releasing OOYM on a different week.
February 2, 20232 yr I'll add: Eminem beefs with pretty much everyone, but particularly Fred Durst, Christina Aguilera... The first few series' of the X Factor, particularly 2008 with Beyoncé and Alexandra duet and her 'OMG face' 'Who shot Phil' EastEnders 2001 storyline, and Zoe and Kat's 'You ain't my mother - yes I am' The first Mamma Mia film and yet another ABBA revival, wasn't this for some time the highest grossing film ever in the UK?
February 2, 20232 yr OMFG THIS!!! Spiller isn't even remembered these days, whilst OOYM is played on SG tours, on throwback playlists, played at clubs etc!! You know in your head this is ABSOLUTE bullshit  As someone who actually does leave the house, I very seldom (if ever) hear that VB track anywhere. Whereas 'If This Ain't Love' is iconic, well-remembered and still heard everywhere (not just clubs and bars) today. In fact, there's a recent remix of it I've heard out in clubs by Purple Disco Machine (aka one of the hottest current dance acts), I'd put a wager on it they probably don't even know the VB track. Anyway, it'd be nice if you didn't derail yet another perfectly decent thread with these ramblings.
February 2, 20232 yr WAT VB is played EVERYWHERE and EVERYONE knows rhe song, as a pristine example of 2000s deum n bass garage drill rnb pop!!! SHE DESERVED RHE NO.1 WITH THE FAR BETTER SONG AND RHIS GEOOVE/ LET YOUR HWAD FO ALSO DESERVED THE NO.1. FACTS
February 2, 20232 yr Author The right song won that battle. 'Groovejet' is leagues ahead and is rightfully remembered.
February 2, 20232 yr Author Oh just came back to me what else I forgot... Maria Lawson's shock elimination in X Factor and Louis being the person to vote her out as well.
