March 27, 20232 yr Sarah Cracknell *.* I still revisit 'The Journey Continues' and am slowly getting into Saint Etienne more
March 27, 20232 yr Oh I’d forgotten I’d voted for Idina haha. Petula is the best shout of that lot - impressed at young Pete giving the oldies recognition.
March 27, 20232 yr 10/10 for Ed (chartjack2) so far - keep it up! Sarah Cracknell also had a solo Top 40 in 1996. I hadn't considered voting for her, but if I had, it would have been for her songs with Saint Etienne rather than solo, which perhaps wouldn't have felt quite right.
March 27, 20232 yr Sarah Cracknell is an absolute joy but I couldn't vote for her either due to essentially me loving her for her work in Saint Etienne, who remain one of the most underrated acts ever in terms of consistent quality vs the UK's consistent refusal to buy their songs.
March 27, 20232 yr Have to say I have not heard of a fair few of these female artist being revealed at the moment lol!

I voted for both Sarah and Shara (lol realise very similar names) due to their contribution to fantastic groups not their solo stuff Maybe not in the spirit of the rate but both mean so much to me so couldn't ignore them.

March 27, 20232 yr Poor Vanessa Amorosi indeed. Did she realise anything in the UK after Absolutely Everybody? Two or three you left off that list I like are Turn To Me, Spin and Amazong. Her The Hooberstank duet The Reason is pretty good too. Nope, Shine was supposed to be released but was cancelled at the last minute. ---- Sarah Cracknell is indeed great. Ready Or Not is a lovely track too.

I couldn't have put it better myself. Saint Etienne's 90s singles are basically all 10/10s, their greatest hits is one of my favourite ever things to listen to. I'm not so into Sarah's solo stuff but I'm happy she got votes here, he voice is just lush

March 28, 20232 yr Amy Grant is easily my favourite of those four, her 1991 album 'Heart In Motion' is a great pop album ('Baby Baby' and 'Every Heartbeat' are total bops!), and her 1995 cover of 'Big Yellow Taxi' was pretty decent too. Edited March 28, 20232 yr by Mangø
March 28, 20232 yr Isn’t La Roux a band? Edit: guess she’s a solo act now. Thanks Tion for making her eligible in that case. :D Edited March 28, 20232 yr by JulianT

Oooo we have another thing in common in this thread, my family used to play that Amy Grant album all the time and it was indeed a fun pop album
March 28, 20232 yr I loved 'Every Heartbeat' - deserved much higher than no.25 and it would have been lovely if both 'House of Love' and 'That's What Love is For' made the top 40 in UK. All better than 'Baby Baby' Despite being one of the biggest Christian singers of all time she has recently been snubbed by the "Christian" right for being a pro LGBT ally.
March 29, 20232 yr Leah Kate? :frankie: Lewis officially trolling even more than Ed is. My first thought re La Roux was that she hadn't had any top 40 hits since becoming a solo artist so should technically be ineligible but I forgot about the Tion Wayne song (although that is of course just sampling a La Roux song from when they were still a group but that's splitting hairs a bit x). Pleasantly surprised that not one but two people voted for 070 Shake even without me voting! Her one (credited) top 40 appearance is little more than a footnote and obviously overshadowed by the feel good story of RAYE getting a #1 after leaving her label etc. but was still slightly surreal to see her freeloading her way to a UK #1, idk if she's ever likely to have a hit single in her own right but I can hope. Both of her albums are great. Otherwise these last few sections are pretty much a bunch of people I have no strong opinions on. Insert mandatory 'Let It Go' hate post though.
