May 31, 20232 yr I like Florence's music, but I find it hard to sit through a full album in one sitting because her voice starts to give me a headache after a while!
May 31, 20232 yr Wonder if Florence gets less votes as many people think of FATM as a band. Love her 'Ceremonials' album especially and 'What the Water Gave Me' is one of my favourite tracks of all time- just so epic.
May 31, 20232 yr Well Florence + The Machine is a band - Florence is only eligible here because of 'Sweet Nothing' crediting her solo instead of the band.
May 31, 20232 yr I like Florence's music, but I find it hard to sit through a full album in one sitting because her voice starts to give me a headache after a while! Yeah, basically this, I think it's her voice that rather than her music that I can only enjoy in smallish doses. Well Florence + The Machine is a band - Florence is only eligible here because of 'Sweet Nothing' crediting her solo instead of the band. But isn't Florence + The Machine essentially just Florence? In the same way as Jamiroquai is essentially just Jay Kay? In that there are no other permanent band members? Or have I got that wrong?
May 31, 20232 yr I believe Jamiroquai do have other permament band members, don't they? Their bassist and keyboardist even have their own Wiki pages! (bothhave been in the band since 2002 and 2005).
May 31, 20232 yr There have been 4 permanent members of the band on all of their albums. (plus a rotating cast of other members)
May 31, 20232 yr I love Florence. She was incredible live when I saw her a few years ago. i still listen to all her earlier albums. I based my nomination on her FATM output too, influenced by the fact that she’s been nominated at the BRITS as best British female solo artist 4 times. They certainly consider her to be a solo artist and not a band. Shame to see Jessie Ware drop out recently too. I thought she might manage higher this rate.
May 31, 20232 yr That was a great comeback album (and its lead single 'Pop Don't Stop' was a certified banger) but her best album for me is 'Love Is'
May 31, 20232 yr I definitely exclude Florence because she basically qualifies for one song only and even that’s a feature. That one song doesn’t compare to the whole careers of others She’d be pretty high for me if I was counting the rest of her output
May 31, 20232 yr Love 'Kids In America', 'Cambodia' and 'Chequered Love' by Kim Wilde ^_^ Robyn has a lot of good songs too, I think my favourite is probably 'The Girl And The Robot' w/ Röyksopp
May 31, 20232 yr So technically Rina isn't the highest artist in this countdown with only one (solo) Top 40 hit. I think it's reasonable that a significant portion of Florence + The Machine's chart career will have come into consideration as well as Sweet Nothing in placing Florence this high. My favourites from Robyn are With Every Heartbeat , Dancing On My Own and, as the pick of her collabs with Röyksopp, the aforementioned The Girl And The Robot.
May 31, 20232 yr My favourite singles from Robyn are With Every Heartbeat, Be Mine!, Handle Me, Dream On, Who's That Girl?, Keep The Fire Burning, Dancing On My Own, Handle Me, Indestructible, Call Your Girlfriend, The Girl and the Robot, Do It Again, Honey, Monument, Love Is Free, Ever Again, Between The Lines, Impact, Caesar and Salt Licorice :kink:
May 31, 20232 yr It might have been easier to list Robyn songs you don't like :kink: 'Be Mine!' and 'Handle Me' are my two absolute faves of hers but 'Call Your Girlfriend' would come in at a close third
May 31, 20232 yr Loving the kim wilde support!! Cant believe i didn’t squeeze Robyn into my votes! Florence is a talent but i do not like her voice!
May 31, 20232 yr That was a great comeback album (and its lead single 'Pop Don't Stop' was a certified banger) but her best album for me is 'Love Is' All three singles from "Love Is" were # 1s in my chart. "Love Is Holy" was SOTY of 1992 year. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...44454&st=20
May 31, 20232 yr Florence i like some songs but wouldnt for example buy albums, i do really like Kim Wilde and Robyn both a few songs im a huge fan of.
May 31, 20232 yr All three singles from "Love Is" were # 1s in my chart. "Love Is Holy" was SOTY of 1992 year. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...44454&st=20 The taste  If I'd had a personal chart back then I can imagine all three of those singles would been #1 and 'Love Is Holy' probably wouldn't have been far off SOTY. That's up there with all the great Belinda Carlisle songs as one of songwriting legend Rick Nowels' best pieces of work, I tihnk that's why I love the new Lana Del Rey song so much too. Who'd have thought 30+ years later, he'd still be writing top ten hits?! Edited May 31, 20232 yr by Mangø
