It would be interesting to see her average score per voter compared to last time actually.

There were 51 voters this time compared to 34 last time. With the exception of Taylor and Beyoncé who weren't in the top 10 last time, all the top 10 revealed so far have lower average scores per voter this time, although Kylie's has fallen the sharpest:

Adele 9.24 (last time: 11.06)

Beyoncé 9.96 (last time: 7.91)

Whitney 10.00 (last time 11.50)

Taylor 11.61 (last time 9.35)

Britney 11.92 (last time 14.53)

P!nk 12.24 (last time 12.56)

Kylie 12.55 (last time 17.12)

Interesting stats, thanks for calculating and sharing! I'm really surprised that Kylie has fallen the sharpest in that list.
Michael Jackson won in 2020 when it was last run - the rest is in this post

Gezza are you planning to run the male version of this again at any point soon? Or will you be taking a well deserved break from these for a while?!

The male and then group will follow this year I hope

Kylie not robbed; she’s an ex soap star, with a limited voice and for me, questionable artistic merit, and yet 36 years on, she’s still having bonafide hits and has a massively loyal (oft blinkered) fanbase - I think the girl did very well, has enjoyed a great career and whilst not my cup of tea, she’s worthy of a top 10 place.

Madonna's fans, who are probably the most blinkered in the pop world, are in no position to question anyone's vocal talent.

I mean, we're not talking about Joni Mitchell or Kate Bush here. Madonna needs writers and producers as much as Kylie and nearly every other pop star. If it wasn't for the songwriters who gave Madonna her breakthrough hits (Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Crazy on You, and Holiday), she wouldn't be anywhere today. She's a shrewd businesswoman and a master manipulator who has a knack for cherry-picking ideas from other people's work and incorporating them into her music, fashion, and videos. It takes more guts than intelligence to spend decades hawking the wardrobes of old Hollywood stars and performers from the 1970s and early 1980s.

The success of Padam Padam really has ruffled some feathers. Oh well.

So tiresome seeing fans of female artists pitch them against each other and tearing the others down. It’s a bad look no matter which side you’re supposedly on.

Posted by a Kylie-fanatic! :-) I’ve heard all of this before, it doesn’t wash. I say this lovingly, the stats don’t lie, Madonna is the biggest selling female artist of all time. Kylie isn’t even in the top ten. And as for touring (where as a performance artist Madonna comes into her own) M holds so many records. There’s no comparison between the two.

I didn’t like Padam, but Kylie has made some of my favourite pop tracks ever, like What Do I have to do, Loveboat, Tightrope etc etc so one can enjoy both x

Rihanna climbing two places with barely any new music, pretty iconic tbh

Rihanna is one I didn't fully get on board with until later in 2008 ('Don't Stop The Music' was the only other single of hers before that I really enjoyed!). From there she's been mostly great and almost consistent for me.

Well her 2015/16 era wasn't that great come to think of it either but she has two strong eras.

So tiresome seeing fans of female artists pitch them against each other and tearing the others down. It’s a bad look no matter which side you’re supposedly on.

This! They're all great, more or less.

Rihanna's average score per voter has actually increased since last time, from 14.12 to 14.41. My favourites by her as lead artist Umbrella, Don't Stop The Music and Diamonds, with Who's That Chick my fave of her collabs.

With regards to not being a "vocal giant", I have to disagree - Unfaithful, Rude Boy, Only Girl, Where Have You Been and the aforementioned Diamonds, to name but a few, are not easy to sing. It's one thing to have a large vocal range, but another to demonstrate it on hit after hit.

Rihanna’s quite underrated as a vocalist on occasion. She’s a different level of vocalist as say Celine for example but I think Rihanna’s songs are pretty hard to sing and there’s something unique about Rihannas vocal and vocal style which her songs sound so well suited to her (she has a definite X factor like quality of complete star appeal / power).

She did really well to be third and quite comfortable in third as well! She has such a fantastic singles discography though and her power between the release schedules of albums 1-7 was undeniable, a hit machine but what’s unique about Rihanna is she’s pretty versatile she’s collaborated with so many different artists of different genres and all 8 of her albums bring something to the table they’re all different from one another to an extent and she’s always explored different sounds across her career, even if you’re not necessarily a fan you have to admire that she’s versatile.

She seemed to be a in lot of peoples top 5/10 here (including mine) which shows just what a force she is despite no album since 2016.

Edited by JLJ

Yeah, I really do not understand how Rihanna has climbed from last time. I mean she's served us some undeniable bops in her time but top 3 and finishing above Kylie, it just doesn't make sense, especially when she's given us next to no new music for years.
Michael Jackson won in 2020 when it was last run - the rest is in this post

Was wondering whether there would be a male version - hadn't started posting by then . Thought possibly not bearing in mind Buzzjack. :P

Genuinely shocked MJ won though based on the extra curricular activities as although never found officially guilty, by 2020 the tide was definitely against him and then Leaving Neverland had been released.

Ed Sheeran very very low at 19 - thought he'd pick up more casual votes (as not a negative poll).

Anyhow, digress.

Gags vs Madge it is - I think the latter should just take it but happy with either outcome.

Rihanna rising!

Madge for victory please!!
