March 6, 20232 yr I resent the notion of “a Eurovision song” and is probably why I don’t want it so much. I’ve done a quick ish video on my channel discussing all the main rumours if anyone wants to peep! I love you  - fantastic video  Edited March 6, 20232 yr by M3G4Nx
March 6, 20232 yr My honest opinion about that Mae Muller song in the TikTok video she posted is it's extremely cringe and she is one kebab away from looking like she's on a night out. It's her account and she can have fun but the song is extremely basic and reminds me of Love Island. The song is fine for pre-drinks with your friends and going out. She even named it "this is one for the girlies". As Rob said, it feels like the song is made for TikTok and I'm not sure the BBC would want Mae posting the BBC video (which someone debunked was recorded early last month and is out) with the song attached unless that's their strategy this year. The snippet doesn't seem to have universal appeal as Space Man did and TAP/BBC said they want us to support the song for the contest and beyond. There are repeated mentions of Eurovision being "a great platform for a new artist" and "a great opportunity for us to celebrate our diverse music scene in the UK" by the BBC/TAP in the 2023 press releases. I can't get my head around that of all the possible options from artists wanting to follow in Sam's footsteps that it would be chosen song. Edited March 6, 20232 yr by M3G4Nx
March 6, 20232 yr Yeah I’ve heard from many credible sources it is ‘I Wrote a Song’ by Mae Muller… Listening to the clip on Tik Tok it sounds like Love Island background music. Awful. What a way to not capitalise on the hype of last year and us getting to host. Dropped the ball big time.
March 6, 20232 yr This is hopeless and if it is true it's frustrating for everyone including Sam Ryder that the BBC have allowed this to happen. @1632470939131600896 Edited March 6, 20232 yr by M3G4Nx
March 6, 20232 yr Oops, if so then I feel for Mae if the fans turn on her as I really like her, have seen her live before and know she's a very competent singer and performer, with a great personality. The song to me sounds catchy, well produced and like something that would be in the lower end of the top 40 for a few weeks after going viral on TikTok, but yes, very generic and Love Island indeed. To revert straight back to the bottom five this year is definitely not where we would want to be when we're finally managing to start repairing the reputation of the contest in this country. But I don't see the track as jury bait and it probably won't do much on the televote either. I still expect to enjoy it for what it is though, even if it's not what I would pick.
March 6, 20232 yr I just hope this a bit of a red herring so we don’t expect Rina to be announced. I’m sure Mae would happily play along with this as it gives her a bit of publicity for her new song. I do have my doubts though
March 6, 20232 yr Do they get feedback from focus groups before they make the decision? I realise that having a selection show hasn’t always worked because the public at home will just choose someone they already know like Andy Abraham or some cute guys like Joe & Jake (who I keep calling JK & Joel by mistake  ). I think having a pre contest only works if it becomes a proper cultural institution, which you can’t create overnight. However the decision definitely does need to have some proper input from the public - and not just Eurovision superfans but also casual viewers who’ll be televoting.
March 6, 20232 yr Not more happy pop?! If they give us that turd after promising Calvin and Ellie I won't even bother watching  TRASH! The one kebab from bein on a neet out is nail on the head! It's just AWFUL. Give us Calvin and Ellie!!
March 6, 20232 yr Also just my opinion but I don't think they should have set out saying it HAS to be a female artist, if indeed that's what they did. You don't get your talent search off to a good start by narrowing it from the get go. They need to find the best act and song for Eurovision in 2023, which might well be a solo female but it might not - it could be a group even.
March 6, 20232 yr If that terrible happy pop kebab song IS the entry, TaP will be VERY nervous today, following the reaction!
March 6, 20232 yr I'm struggling to believe that's a legitimate contender. That song reads and sounds like a parody of a pop song. It's so unbelievably awful. It's giving me zero points vibes all the way. What a spectacular fall from grace that would be for us.

They need to find the best act and song for Eurovision in 2023, which might well be a solo female but it might not - it could be a group even. As far as I can tell the female solo artist originates from a “they should, perhaps, not have a guy” comment from Ed Millett of TaP music, with the caveat that recent artists have all been male - plus all the rumours with apparently some weight to them fit that profile so it would seem that's what they've done. But yeah, a group or band should be considered too, that never seems to happen for the UK and if it does it's only a pop duo. That said, if it's any one of these rumours I think we're in good shape (even this Mae Muller song, you're hearing a bad TikTok recording of it) and I'm not catastrophising until the entry comes out and I've gotten a good objective look at their performance history and the song itself

March 6, 20232 yr please not Mae Muller.. although I guess it's only a matter of time before the TikTokification of pop music spreads over to Eurovision big time too.
March 6, 20232 yr Well then. If that is indeed the case... Sweden, please don't f*** it up. Give me my favourite entry since... 'Euphoria'. Thanks. x
March 6, 20232 yr Like just announce the song already - I’m all for a bit of hype and build up but it’s overkill at this point especially after all the build up we end up with a :nocheer: song
March 6, 20232 yr I wonder if the entry might be revealed on Thursday on Radio 1 when Arielle Free ends her Red Nose Day challenge in Liverpool.
March 6, 20232 yr I thought Calvin and Ellie was our entry and it was being announced on The One Show on Friday? People are now saying that is one of FOUR finalists!!! That, this crap, Freya, Birdy and someone else. Calvin SHOULD be the entry, but I don't trust bbc's judgement. Maybe they don't want to win...
