Just listened to it, not really my thing tbh it's a bit nothingy feel like it needs to really explode at the end but it kind of just fizzles out. It's not bad though it's ok. I definitely get the Lana vibes my husband said it reminded him of Amy Winehouse (not sure why tbh lol).

As soon as you mentioned your husbands Amy Winehouse comparison my mind went to her ex husband Blake. I can kind of see the similarities.

Not sure I agree with all the ‘Jesy doesn’t expect this to be a hit’ - surely regardless of all the backlash and bad press an artist from one of biggest girl groups of all time and a debut Top 5 single would have the expectation to break the Top 75?

I've got the assume both she and everyone in her team must be realistic. 'Boyz' was a year and a half ago, the fallout from that debacle which ensued was so massive and she's now seen as persona non Grata in the public eye. Since then she's been dropped, almost forgotten about and generally viewed as a figure of ridicule. Doing this independently probably makes it even harder to get any traction or support.

It's really annoying 'cos I felt like she had such potential as a solo star, and I' not sure I can recall somebody squandering it all in such a spectacular fashion.

Oh trust me, her team are very realistic.

I speak to someone very close to Jesy and they've basically said she didn't go into this expecting high streaming numbers after everything and she's just very happy with the reception of the song and happy in general and she's taking everything a step at a time.

I feel like they are seeing this as a new introduction to Jesy after everything. I've been told they've got more stuff cooking up and 'every single is growth'.

I also speak to Jesy on IG quite often and she's just really grateful for the fan support and people like the song.

Her and Charlie (the Director of 'Bad Thing') have signed a creative partnership deal and have a number of projects together in the pipeline, one being the next video.

^^ All that’s great but I’m not sure how long an artist can self fund releases with no/minimal return, of course there could be a smash hit waiting in the wings but from what you’ve said it seems Team Jesy are not expecting that, also she’s not a indie artist that can endlessly tour to make money.
Ya there is only so far she can go without making any returns unless she keeps funding it from money she has made from little mix although that wouldn't be a great decision. Who knows what lies ahead and sometimes it can just take 1 song to change things.

James Arthur has managed to redeem himself after being involved in a similar scandal.

I do think that this is step 1 in a rehabilitation & might be a steady earner for her. What I think would be an advantage for her (especially having cut ties with the Boyz label) would be leaning into being badly advised to put that out, work with Nicki Minaj etc.

The issue I see for her if this kind of midtempo really IS what she wants to do, sonically and thematically its kind of a 180 from Boyz, which she insisted at the time was what she wanted to do, which was her speaking her truth etc. It doesn't flow cohesively.

I think Boyz is her kind of music. She's always liked RnB and Hiphop. Of course most pop/RnB/hiphop artists put our the occasional ballad/midtempo, which is what I think has given rise to Bad Thing.

There’ll be plenty more upbeat songs, she said this in The Sun interview "Bad Thing is the start of the album. I feel like this song is an indicator of what it's going to sound like but it's not all slow songs at all.“

Very interested to see what the next upbeat song she releases is like. She loves dancing so she’ll definitely have plenty of upbeat stuff on the album, I’d love an upbeat song involving Tayla Parx!

From experience, the fact that she hasn't put together an album yet is worrying. Costs will catch up with her and she can't just keep throwing money at bad.

She must have so many songs, I’m surprised she’s still writing/recording and has plans to go to New York in a few days as she said her album was done. I’m guessing she’s trying to create a song that she feels could be a big ‘hit’, she must have spent a lot of money so far.

She’s just confirmed she’s not doing physical CDs for ‘Bad Thing’, like she did for BOYZ. Makes me think she’s holding off for another song to go full steam ahead, especially with the lack of promo and her saying this song is just an ‘introduction’ to the album and her bf said she’s only just starting.

I would absolutely love to know what their strategy is. I do think Bad Thing is a great song with a great video and is definitely a step in the right direction and it has had so much positivity online.

Guess we’ll have to see! I’m very intrigued how/l she’ll continue to promote this song!

Wow... I just watched the video for the first time, so instant reaction...

The song is so much better when paired with the video. You are completely drawn into it. It's like watching a TV adaptation of a Martina Cole book.

Jesy plays her part perfectly.

If she had released this song, with that video as her introductory solo single whilst still signed to a major record label, we may have seen a different story for her career.

Ahh I love hearing your reaction, it truly was a powerful video and fit so perfectly with the song!

So many people have said imagine if this was the first single </3

Jesy posted a story after landing on the Big Top 40.

She thanked fans and acknowledged that it is only her and her fans pushing the song :( but i'm glad she seemed in good spirits!

She also sent me a DM on instagram thanking me for the support and telling me how much she loved me  She is really sweet and I feel lucky I speak to her quite often as not many people can say they speak to their faves regularly and not just about music.

Current worldwide iTunes chart placings

iTunes:

#28 Bahrain

#36 United Kingdom

I guess the most shocking thing for me is that even with all the general public perception of her and bad press etc it seems as if she’s retained next to no LM fans? 57k streams on day 2 is shocking and it’s nearly out of the UK iTunes Top 40 - I guess her 9.5 million insta followers have low engagement and interest in her?

Whatever happens chart wise, she delivered a great song and video in my opinion and has received a lot of positivity.

All I’m seeing are glowing reactions on YouTube

What was she expecting to do with this? Was looking for a hit with this? Much better than 'Boyz'.

Oh gosh, #98.

I’m worried it’s really not going to make it, such a shame!

Is that it’s midweek? In which case it’s going to fall out the top 100 for sure. A shame, while it’s not my cup of tea there are definitely worse songs above it in the charts. Would have been so interesting to see what would have happened had this been her first single and Boyz not happened.
