March 21, 20232 yr 3 good'uns there. 'Not Fair' I can sorta understand with some of those lyrics but it's a fun barn stomper pop track for me. All her songs from that album were great mind you after not being a fan of her first era as much. 'Naive' is an 00's indie classic and that's a good Kate Bush song as well!
March 22, 20232 yr That's my entire bottom 11 out now ^_^ Naïve is the third out from my top 8 though - it was the first song I downloaded. Maybe I'm nostalgic for a time when there was more guitar-based music in the charts, but even if Naïve isn't the happiest song, there was such a bright optimism to that era which I still enjoy. Also my bottom 11 out too! Naive my first Top 10 loss.
March 22, 20232 yr Ooh I loved I Know, She Knows by thr Kooks! Although on relistening, it sounds like 2000s indie by numbers... But still better than anythin from that era, except Ruby and Can You ... Read? (My Mind?)
March 22, 20232 yr 'Not Fair' bizarrely one of my Dad's favourite song of the 00s, Not Fair was fantastic and still is. 'Babesooka' though from Kate Bush, no thanks.

The track was written with Janet Jackson in mind but her team didn't like it. It ended up as the second top 5 single from Whitney's debut album. m3-hY-hlhBg
March 22, 20232 yr 'Hungry Like The Wolf' is my favourite to drop out today! I do think 'Save A Prayer' from the same album eclipses it but it's all good new wave stuff for me really
March 22, 20232 yr What a trio of gems! 'How Will I Know' is so uplifting and joyous and still sounds great today (RIP Whitney). 'Hungry Like The Wolf' is definitely amongst the best of Duran Duran's 80s singles. And 'Bohemian Like You' is an indie classic :D
March 23, 20232 yr Oh that's disappointingly low for Duran Duran there, the third of my top 10 to drop out. Surprised to see The Dandy Warhols making the top half but it is a pretty good tune, and 'How Will I Know' is one of Whitney's best as well, not a fan of her in general but do like that song.
March 23, 20232 yr I wonder, is ‘How Will I Know’ the highest ranked wildcard, or there’s something even higher?
March 23, 20232 yr I wonder, is ‘How Will I Know’ the highest ranked wildcard, or there’s something even higher? Pretty sure it’s the only one that made the final. I don’t know if it’s the rotten Guetta cover that poisoned me a bit against How Will I Know - it’s good really. There isn’t anything I don’t like in here though.

A year later, Tina Turner's cover version gave her a first top 5 single since 1985. Her previous fourteen singles had all failed to reach the top 20. Two 50 point scores mean that The Best wins a tie-break over Cry For You. GC5E8ie2pdM
March 23, 20232 yr Author 21. March 23, 20232 yr Okey doke, Avril not one I particularly recall and would have ended lower in the chart than Laura Branigan, Sowing The Seeds and The Universal if I'd voted. Jo-Lo is middlingly good for me but I would have helped it overtake Metallica which is so over-rated. Daydream believer would have got my 50, no question and Madonna would have been around 30 points or so, one of her luvverly ones. Sure no-one cares but the results would have been 40, Nirvana 39. Texas 38. Laura Branigan 37. Avril 36. Tears For Fears 35. Metallica 34. J-Lo 33. Blur 32. Kelis 31. Madonna for that batch if I'd got me votes sorted in time :D The next batch are all pretty fine bar The Kooks and Duran which are good but not great for me, somewhere in the 10's, and Whitney which still annoys me and would have struggled to get 10. babooshka, The Best, Cry For You, Not fair, Regulate are all really good tracks so 20+ points and Dandy warhols would be just outside my top at 30-odd. So, 30. Kate 29. Kooks 28. Lily Allen 27. Monkees 26. Duran 25. Dandy Warhols 24. Whitney 23. September 22. Tina Turner 21. Warren G...or not much change from 26 onwards depending on what's just above them
