March 14, 20232 yr Shame Jealousy’s out so soon but great that it made it this far. I think it was just such a surprise that he released something that great so deep into his career.
March 14, 20232 yr That's my 1, 2 and 4 pointers out so no complaints from me. Ina Wroldsen co-wrote a lot of hit songs!
March 14, 20232 yr 'Jealousy' is my favourite of those to drop out today! I liked it at the time but it turned into love over the years, one of his best.
March 14, 20232 yr 'Strong Enough' and 'Up' are both great but 'Jealousy' is easily the best of those three - love Will's synthy upbeat stuff!
March 14, 20232 yr Given there are 49 votes, the smallest amount of points a song could get would be 49, and the biggest amount of points would be 2450. Average amount of points would be 1250. So I'd say the results are pretty even, given the lowest song got 983 points, which is more than 40% of the maximum amount of possible points! No wonder that I didn't expect any of the bottom 3 going out so early, but when everything is that close, it is very hard to predict what is going to be placed where.
March 14, 20232 yr There were 6 songs on the list that I didn't know / remember well enough to rank (actually fewer than I expected), Cher's was one of those, although I did recognise it when I listened to it unlike the other 5. It is ok, definitely a lot better than 'Believe' for me which I have always disliked, but certainly not complaining at it coming last. Disappointingly low for the other two though, those are my favourite songs by The Saturdays and Will Young - not that I am huge fans of either artist but they are both really good pop songs.
March 14, 20232 yr My second favourite songs by The Saturdays (after Ego) and Will Young (after Leave Right Now) - particularly like Up, disappointed it's gone early. But fully agree with the comment above that this looks likely to be a very tight and unpredictable countdown.
March 15, 20232 yr Disappointed at Strong Enough coming last. A great tune and I gave it top score. The other ones revealed so far, I didn't even know so not really disappointed about those.
March 15, 20232 yr A shame to see Up so low, would agree it's their best along with Ego. It was definitely my preferred noughties female pop song in this final.
March 15, 20232 yr sorry I ran out of time lately for so much stuff! My votes would have favoured Monkees, New radicals, Dua Lipa, Laura Branigan, Blondie, Blur, Texas, Nelly Furtado, Dandy Warhols, Kylie, Girls Aloud so just imagine they'd be 40+ points higher with Monkees on top for 50....
March 15, 20232 yr Author 47. Katy B - Katy On A Mission 1007pts Writers - Katy B, Beni Adejumo Top scores - jimwatts 50, RabbitFurCoat 45, BananasInPyjamas 44 Low scores - !!! 1, StoneDragon 1, Mango 2, AH Gold 2, Campbell 2, xajnipi 2 Average score - 20.6 Katy B is the only solo artist to have two songs in the final and her debut single from 2010 is the first to drop out. This is the song that finished in 25th place in the first semi-final, just one point ahead of 'Red Alert'. -6tHw4yIDok
March 15, 20232 yr Katy On A Mission did better than my top scorer in the #4s rate last year (U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name) which finished 50th in the final. For me it's the perfect dance/pop crossover hit, with the tension in the production winding up and releasing with those dubstep beats. I can't have any regrets about Red Alert being out of the final now!
March 15, 20232 yr Author 46. It took eight weeks to climb from number 32 to number 18 before leaping up to number 5 the next week. wL2HKKrY7sM
March 15, 20232 yr Author 45. Panjabi MC - Mundian To Bach Ke 1029pts Writers - Panjabi MC, Labh Janjua, Glen Larson, Stu Philips Top scores - Mack 48, Brer 48, Cow Cow 47 Low scores - mikerobe1984 2, DarrenJames 3, Jester 4 Average score - 21 This was one of just two top 40 hits for the Coventry based artist. It uses the bass line from 'Fire It Up' by Busta Rhymes which in turn is based around a sample from the theme song to the TV show 'Knight Rider'. It is estimated to have sold around ten million copies worldwide. x9WO2ieJMYk
March 15, 20232 yr Always used to love it hearing the first bit of Punjabi MC come on when out and about and see everyone rush to the dancefloor to do their best "change the lightbulb, pat the dog" moves! :D
March 15, 20232 yr A second song from my top 10 drops out (the other 4 so far were all in my bottom 5) - Mundian To Bach Ke is genius.
March 15, 20232 yr I was surprised to see that get so far, great to see it make the final, an iconic hit still sounds great 20 years on. Katy on a Mission is magnificent, that and Perfect Stranger two exceptional hits of that genre from that time  The less said about Wow the better, surprised but pleased to see so many give it 1 Edited March 15, 20232 yr by RabbitFurCoat
March 15, 20232 yr Almost everything in the final is great but Wow should be renamed Meh really. Katy On A Mission is good and Mundian To Bach Ke is glorious - best bhangra hit ever.
March 15, 20232 yr Aw 2 more songs I ranked pretty highly out there - I guess I can understand Panjabi MC being a bit niche/divisive though so probably not helped by the format of this final. What a banger though. + 'Katy On A Mission' is fab too (a lot better than 'Crying For No Reason' imo), deserved better here but it's come a long way from being near universally hated on here when it first came out which always feels weird to think back on.
