Thanks for switching over 6th and 7th! I wasn't really expecting it, and it's not that important, but I think how it is now is more consistent with Reshuffle tiebreaks, where you start from the highest vote score to count which song has the most of each, then the second highest vote score, etc.

I hope Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own has managed to pull this off!

Elevation is a great track, shame the single mix isn't on Spotify, as far as I can see. It's much better than the album version for me.

Surprised Vertigo wasn't top three.

I'm not particularly mad on Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own myself, so I'm backing Beautiful Day for the win.

It is their 6th and final ever #1 'Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own' which comes runner up but it did come in strong even with just one 11. Picking up a lot of 10's and 9's in peoples rates. It's lyrically situated around Bono's close friendship with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence and his struggle with ultimately lead to his passing in 1997. I would've loved for an less predictable winner with this or 'Elevation' doing the business but it was not to be but Sometimes did bring in a big average score haul over 3rd place.

1 Beautiful Day

Highest Pointer/s : Popchartfreak, awardinary, Chapman (10)

Lowest Pointer/s : JulianT (06)

Average Score : 8.66

So it was perhaps the most predictable winner of the lot as 'Beautiful Day' takes to victory in the rate and this is without the track not even picking up a single 11 amazingly :o released as their first single to kick off the Noughties it bolted straight to number 1. When people think of U2's most well known songs BD is obviously among them so was unsurprising to see it win here.

and that's it done.

Full Recap

1. Beautiful Day 8.66

2. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own 8.26

3. Elevation 7.8

4. One 7.4 (1 11)

5. Vertigo 7.4

6. Electrical Storm 7.1

7. City Of Blinding Lights 7.1 (did have a 10 like ES but also two 9's but no 9.5 which ES did receive despite that one not getting a 9 or a 2nd 9.5 or 10 so on basis of one of them getting a 9.5 regardless ES wins)

8. Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of 6.86

9. Take Me To The Clouds Above 6.8

10. Walk On 6.33

11. Windows In The Skies 5.66

12. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight 5.36

13. Magnificent 5.0

14. All Because Of You 4.9

15. The Saints Are Coming 4.83

16. Get On Your Boots 3.0

Aww well can’t really complain - Beautiful Day’s a good song but just lacks a bit of oomph for me whereas SYCMIOYO really hits hard.

Thanks for running this Rob - has been a lot of fun!

No worries, been good. U2 aren't even a band I'm mega huge on haha (prefer their 80's and 90's stuff) but thought they'd be a notably successful band to rate on as they've been around for a lot of decades. The 80's and 90's ones could be interesting to delve into also but not in this forum part obviously lol.

It's not over for rates though as another is coming asap (not by me x).

Ah well, my favourites finished 2nd, 6th & 10th, so there's a certain symmetry in that I suppose! Beautiful Day was on the next rung for me (I gave it 9) and it's still a great winner, if a little more predictable.

Thanks for running this Rob!

I quite like 'Beautiful Day', but it wouldn't have been my choice of winner.

I do however love 'Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own'. There was this thing that was going about on social media about "what song was #1 on your 18th birthday...", and it was this!

You guys really under appreciated Walk On in this - I think it's my favourite single from the first 00s album, it's pretty anthemic in a way.

And ooops at me giving the lowest points to Elevation but tbh it deserves it for the nursery rhyme lyrics - when I first heard it I assumed it was them attempting to emulate Des'ree.

a MOLE digging in a HOLE digging up my SOUL. I mean really?

MOFO he's writing lyrics OH NO god save us from the BONO

SEE WE CAN ALL WRITE A 00s U2 SINGLE

I'm going to be charitable and assume they were whimsically slyly referencing the kiddie song I Am A Mole And I Live In A Hole which they and I will def have heard growing up (it's 1958). A bit like modern musicians stealing bits I mean tastefully sampling and revamping their kiddie songs of the 90's

Fab rundown Roba, thanks for doing it! I am a U2 fan, I was converted as they went on and I saw them at Wembley - now there's a band that knows how to handle an audience, as was the late Michael Hutchence, INXS were also fab. Oddly, I was reminded at the pub quiz Monday by my friends of the time that their friends (unknown to me) were showing them old photos of themselves at Wembley for U2 and they said "what's John doing in your photo!?". I was just behind them and we didn't know each other at that time, but had randomly just ended up adjacent  It's a small world sometimes....

Oops sorry I forgot to rate, but the number 1 would've been my own personal one too so nice to see that reflected *.* Wonderful song, so rousing and motivational. Sometimes... is OK, though I do prefer City of Blinding Lights from that same era. One is amazing in its original form, and I don't mind Mary's version though I don't particularly like the oversinging over what should be a song where its subtlety is its power. Vertigo and Elevation are both awesome (the awful lyrics of the latter are what make it so great x) so some generally good results. I think the only one I may have helped further is Window in the Skies which is quite underrated and has a really creative video.
