Wasn't there a rule about a song over 3 years being allowed to be reset if the the artist started promoting it,

 

and in cruel summers case, up until a month ago when she released the live version, it wasn't being promoted/pushed , the rest of its run was organic

Once a song which is over 3 years old succumbs to ACR, it should stay there and not get reset so if "Cruel Summer", "Teenage Dirtbag" and "Pompeii" all succumb to ACR this year, then they should all stay there

That’s not how the rules work tho I don’t think. I might be wrong but I think Another Love went to ACR over Christmas last year and got a reset again after Christmas (although in fairness that one did repeak)

Can the lord please smite whoever started the notion that ACR has anything to do with peak positions. It is so incredibly frustrating to keep seeing this same argument over and over again which relies on a completely made up premise.

I think the problem is last year Kate Bush sitiluation, wouldnt of been number 1 sooner if they didn't change the rule :P

Yeah Kate Bush situation blurred the lines. I'm sure if it never had a chance of going #1 it wouldn't have been reset.

It got reset because people felt it was unfair for her not being the rightful #1 due to ACR

Yes, that specific instance was because it was a very high profile song that needed a reset to peak at #1, and that resulted in either labels realising that getting resets for older trending songs is an option or the OCC becoming much more liberal in granting reset requests. But that =/= the sole purpose of the resets being to get songs new peaks.

these updates are ever-meaningless in December (as everything will be reset in January) but hey ho

They might not reset Cruel Summer not just because it’s over 3 years old but also, she has more current singles higher up in the chart. Is It Over Now? is her highest charting song at the moment and You’re Losing Me has only just been released so it would be pointless to focus on Cruel Summer which is 4 years old rather than a brand new single
