Sigh. Why are people still making these mistakes? Hype and promo is peaking NOW with the debut single. Does she think in another 6 months to a year that she’ll somehow have MORE hype and interest? Get the album out ASAP or it won’t come out at all.

^ It is not a mistake. Everyone and their mother release their album after multiple singles. A long campaign is the norm in the streaming era. This especially applies to artists who release their debut album. :coffee:

New artists with no prior fanbases, yes. A former member of Little Mix? Last year or this year at a push would have been a smart decision but 2024? When Little Mix will be even further into oblivion and Jade/Perrie will have - presumably - released their music too and taken the spotlight?

Listen, I like all three girls. All three are talented and deserve a hit. I'm not criticising their talent or their personalities or anything like that. However, I really don't see any of these girls doing a Mel C/Nadine Coyle/Una Healy and really sticking with their music careers past the initial debut single and hype. Do you see any of the three (or Jesy?) performing at small clubs and venues, singing Little Mix songs for the locals, self funding everything and doing promo on local radio stations and This Morning etc?

I'd like all the girls to have success but these decisions like waiting a year to drop your solo single, disappearing to America a week later after a couple radio interviews and then telling us the album is 'next year' is already red flags. If she was in the UK all week hustling at every single radio station and TV show going then maybe I'd give her the benefit of the doubt but I feel like Leigh wants the chart success and if she doesn't get it then she'll throw in the towel and move to presenting or fashion like 99% of other ex girl group members and that's why the album needs to come out while there's still hype around her solo launch and before Perrie/Jade come along.

Edit - And on watching the clip she says 'hopefully' next year and her body language is awkward as hell. There's definitely not a plan in place.

Plus, low sales in that period + time for pre-orders to add up = higher charting album (in theory). I doubt she'd get a better result if she released the album after one single (which would be an ok peak but falling out after one week).

Part two!

She wants Number 1 singles/albums in the next 10 years and to unlock her potential as there is only so much she could have shown in Little Mix.

She believes Little Mix are still underrated sometimes.

LSL is one of their worst singles, DSL is so much better!

I’m sorry for her but being honest the single is totally bland. It was smart to go with that sound really commercial for the UK but for me the song starts ok but when arrives to the chorus is such a let down. I guess for all the girl/boy bands must be hard to release solo music cos they want to succeed and also want to express their own sound after so many years but I believe when you are about to start you career you must go really safe and commercial. What was the last LM hit? Sweet Melody, right? Then you go it, go that sound or something a la Touch to start with really a banger, to established yourself but for me this song is third single material.

Now that I’m older, and especially after seeing One Direction went solo, I appreciate more that all the Spice Girls got a solo hit single and released Top 10 albums cos I highly doubt that Jesy or Leigh will release the full solo album.

Spice Girls are in a different league. With just 2 albums in a space of 20 months-ish, they achieved such ground-breaking success. All of these other groups were mirrored after them. So it's no surprise all members had some degree of solo success. Also, top 10 then and top 10 now aren't quite the same. The industry has grown out of proportion.

Little Mix had Heartbreak Anthem (million seller), Confetti (almost Platinum) and Kiss My (Platinum) after Sweet Melody.

But yeah a top ten single in the 90’s/00’s was much easier. All you had to do was arrange a week of TV performances and a CD signing at HMV for release week and a top ten was guaranteed. Streaming has made things incredibly difficult. It’s amazing LM even got so many hits in the streaming era considering they’re a girl group.

This is defo from someone who didn't live through the 90s. Top 10 wasn't good enough, you could have a string of top 10 singles and a decent selling album and be dropped. The industry was cut throat in the 90s.

The Spice Girls got solo success but it wasn't a given. Victoria was labelled a flop and her career killed after a #2 single and a #7 single. Emma was dropped after What I am (#2), What took you so long (2 weeks at #1), Take my breath away (#5) and we're not gonna sleep tonight (#20), with the album they were from going top 5 and gold.

Don't say love just isn't strong enough.

^^ This! The amount of acts that were dropped due to ‘underperformance’ in the 90s and early 00s which would be seen as smash hits now.

I remember Sarah Whatmore being touted as the next big thing - she reached #6 with her first single and #11 with the follow up and the album was scrapped and she was dropped as a result! :drama:

The 90;s were harsh and so cut throat, some of the acts were never really given a chance, which is a shame, i am disappointed for Leigh Anne looking at the mids, its not a great 2nd week and while i hope it can recover i dont really think it will.

I didn’t say a top ten single was enough to get an album out. All I said was it was easier to get a top ten single in the 90’s.
