On their 2014 debut, Zaba, the Oxford quartet aligned themselves with a storied lineage of abstract alt-rock—the moody atmospheres of Radiohead, the tropical textures of Animal Collective—but in Dave Bayley, Glass Animals possess an uncommonly smooth singer who could mould those left-field influences into sultry, R&B-flavoured pop songs. While the album made them indie darlings, it also earned the group admirers beyond the typical NME reader—the 2015 single “Lose Control” saw them team up with Brooklyn MC Joey Bada$$ for a trippy rap track. That sense of anything-goes openness fully flourished on 2016’s How to Be a Human Being, whose procession of freaky, funky anthems and synth-smeared slow jams earned Glass Animals their first Mercury Prize nomination. But after drummer Joe Seaward was nearly killed in a 2018 cycling accident, Glass Animals dialled down the eccentricity for 2020’s Dreamland, a more intimate record that further harmonized the art-rock/club-pop dialectic at the heart of their music. Speaking about the single “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” to Apple Music, Hayley said, “The idea was to take my favourite '90s producers like Timbaland and The Neptunes and the way they used samples, yet record a lot of those sounds in the way The Beatles or Beach Boys might’ve done it... and then taking Beatles and Beach Boys sounds and resampling them as [those producers] might’ve done.” That Dreamland cracked the Top 10 in both the UK and US is a testament to Glass Animals’ gift for melding different styles and eras into the sound of now. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2020 05 Heat Waves -1- MILLIONAIRE 0 x #1 | 1 x Top 5 | 1 x Top 10 | 1 x Top 20 | 1 x Top 40 | 1 x Top 100 Social Media Glass Animals http://i.imgur.com/1SERq1f.png
May 19, 20233 yr Author 38 | 28 | 6th week Drake Search & Rescue Non-album single Released: 7th April 2023 Label: OVO Chart Statistics NE (20/04/2023) | 5-10-12-18-28-38 Sales: 80k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 51 Sales 11 Audio Streaming 00 Video Streaming Video ntp9_iznQ-0 Biography A couple of years after he broke into the mainstream with 2009’s So Far Gone, Drake was browsing art in Los Angeles when a piece caught his eye: a big neon sign that read, “LESS DRAKE, MORE TUPAC.” For a minute, he felt angry, embarrassed—he wanted to walk up and rip the sign off the wall. Instead, he bought it. After all, he figured, you get someone hanging your name next to Tupac’s, even if it’s only to take a shot at it? You must be doing something right. Born Aubrey Drake Graham in Toronto in 1986, Drake became—like Tupac—something of a generational voice, a prism for his pop-cultural moment. Was he an R&B singer who rapped or a rapper who sang? Was he really that sad, or just doing a bit? And if it wasn’t a bit, how could this guy—talented, intuitive, hardworking—really be so down? From minute one, there was something a little different about him: He could be confessional, vulnerable, but also incredibly coarse; he could make an earnest commitment one minute (“Take Care”) and be drunk-dialing the next (“Marvins Room”); he could convince you he was an underdog from his perch on top of the world (“Started from the Bottom”). Critics—and he’s had plenty—like to point out that he started as an actor: He played Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian teen show Degrassi: The Next Generation. But most of all, he felt like a person—someone who isn’t canceled by his paradoxes, but defined by them. Though the feelings remain (always feelings, big feelings), the sound—for the most part, courtesy of longtime affiliate Noah “40” Shebib—is always changing: a little dancehall here (“One Dance”), a little house there (“Passionfruit”), some old New Orleans bounce (“Nice for What”), a bit of Wu-style boom-bap (“Started from the Bottom”), some smooth, to-the-minute trap-soul (“Hotline Bling”). Like Kanye, Drake is as much a curator as he is a creator, an artist capable of arranging collaborators from a universe of styles and making them all fit into his personal vision—an approach that has made him one of the most definitive rappers and pop figures of his era. “I obviously spend a lot of time in my own world,” he told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in 2016. “But when I do take a look at the broader scope of things, it’s often [in the studio]… Even though I don’t directly, literally address things in my music, I’ve always tried to make music that transcends gender, nationality—to try and unify people. Because that’s really what it’s about.” - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2009 42 Forever (feat. May 19, 20233 yr Author 37 | 42 | 6th week Jonas Brothers Waffle House 2nd single from The Album Released: 7th April 2023 Label: Jonas Brothers Recording Chart Statistics NE (20/04/2023) | 89-46-49-42-42-37 Sales: 40k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 12 Sales 00 Audio Streaming 00 Video Streaming Video TasKo5HHWb4 Biography When Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas got their first taste of fame, many erroneously assumed the brothers were just another flash-in-the-pan boy band. What the world got instead was a multi-instrumental trio of talented songwriters with true lasting star power and a roster of canonical pop jams. The Jonases grew up in New Jersey, honing their musical skills in church before finding their way to the majors. Their 2006 debut, It's About Time, paired the boys’ innate talent with Jersey songwriting royalty: Fountains Of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger and Bon Jovi producer Desmond Child. The Jonas Brothers moved to a Disney label for their eponymous sophomore album in 2007 and started a run of appearances on Disney Channel shows, including the now-legendary Camp Rock, earning the JoBros teen fans around the world. They stoked their fiery fanbase with subsequent summer-lovin’ anthems “Burnin’ Up” and “Tonight”, but weren’t afraid to get personal with ballads like “A Little Bit Longer”, on which Nick opened up about living with diabetes. But growing up sharing the spotlight with siblings took its toll, so after 2009’s aptly titled Lines, Vines and Trying Times, the band split. They took a nearly 10-year break to work on outside projects—including Joe Jonas’ DNCE, which produced the catchy “Cake by the Ocean” single—and focus on being a family again. “We had a better relationship almost immediately following the breakup,” Nick Jonas told Apple Music. The group surprised fans in 2019 by dropping "Sucker", which zipped to No. 1 as fans welcomed their return. Older, wiser and happily coupled, the JoBros were back in the recording studio and in a much better place—all evident in that year's more mature album, Happiness Begins. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2008 13 S.O.S. -1- 2008 30 Burnin' Up / When You Look Me In The Eyes -1- 2008 57 Play My Music -OST- 2008 92 Lovebug -2- 2009 56 Paranoid -1- 2019 04 Sucker -1- MILLIONAIRE 2019 39 Cool -2- 2019 64 Only Human -3- 2019 89 Lonely (Diplo & Jonas Brothers) 2019 53 Like It's Christmas -NAS- 2020 22 What A Man Gotta Do -NAS- 2020 82 X (feat. May 19, 20233 yr this Drake song really is bombing down the chart fast let’s hope it encourages him to try a bit harder for once Wouldn't count on that. The thing is that even though this track has been on the charts for only 6 weeks it feels like a lifetime because all of his tracks sound exactly the same as each other, there always seems to be some identikit Drake on the charts.
