Slightly surprised it's not #1 to be honest - I thought this would be more appealing to the Madonna fans as she obviously features more on it.

But it's also not a re-recording of Like a Prayer... and those two together could have so easily thought that was a good idea.

Madonna’s fans have forgotten how to use iTunes now? Popular only peaked at #5, they’re really letting her down. iTunes should be her bread and butter

Popular I get though - she's a small part of the song and it's obvious that it was something she was tagged onto rather than being creatively involved. With Vulgar she's clearly involved with it more heavily (hence why she seems to promote it more) so I'd expect it to sail up to number one much more easy, especially with her rabid fanbase. Have they all started streaming too?

I do but at the same time she’s a credited artist and it’s her first chance at a hit in over a decade! She’s probably going to just miss the top 20 but if fans had been a little more supportive she would’ve had her first top 20 (or even top 10) hit since the 2000s. Yes I’m bitter lol

I think the reaction from her fanbase is kind of muted because they know that if Popular is a hit, it won't be because of Madonna but because of the Weeknd, plus it's unlikely to do much for her career either way. I just think it's hard to work up any hype for something that doesn't really feel "earned" at a lack of better words.

I expected this to shoot to number 1 on i tunes in its low sales climate to be honest, I am a little shocked. There is still time yet though huns, maybe this evening it will get there. 🙂

Listened to this this morning and was horrified. What a terrible song. And I don't think it will grow on me at all. Two such talented musicians reduced to this...

I know what you mean Grace hun. I was like that when I first heard it. It is growing on me a little bit though. Not Madonnas best song or sam smiths but I love most of Sams work but prefer their first album and earlier work. Although unholy is a great song.

I agree with you that both of those singles were not good neither but vulgar is worse and the lyrics are just dreadful. I haven’t liked much output from Madonna since confessions and this is kinda the icing on the cake.

Oh dont worry hun, this forum needs the post boost as even with TWO NEW songs out the forum is very quiet. I am shocked really.

 

Weekend featuring Madonna 21 in the official charts. Amazing a nice top 40 hit. Shame it.missed out on top 20. Maybe it can grab top 20 next week?

There aren't that many Madonna fans left on the forum though... and I doubt those that are would have chosen any of these collabs tbh.

 

 

She's heading in her choice of direction right now and that's fine if that's what she wants to do... but I'm not blindly following it if I don't like the music.

I’m blaming this lack of interest on Hung Up On Tokischa and Material Squorlll etc. etc.
