June 19Jun 19 Author This Week:2001- Geri Halliwell- It's Raining MenTop of The Pops Performance:The Fight Scene from Bridget Jones's Diary:Original:RuPaul ft Marsha Walsh's Sequel Version: 'It's Raining Men' was the first single from Geri Halliwell's second solo album 'Scream if You Wanna Go Faster'. This would go on and peak at #1 in the UK becoming her fourth and final UK #1 where it would stay there for two weeks. This was an cover of the 1982 single from The Weather Girls. Geri's version was also the lead single ot the soundtrack of Bridget Jones's Diary. The music video was inspired by Fame and Flashdance. This is tolerable from Geri.2005- Audio Bullys ft Nancy Sinatra- Shot You DownNancy Sinatra Version:Original:Top of The Pops Performance:'Shot You Down' was a song from Audio Bullys which featured Nancy Sinatra from her cover of Cher's 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down). This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK, this was one that seemed to be on the music channels quite a lot during the summer of 2005. 2005- Fightstar- Paint Your TargetCD:UK Performance:'Paint Your Target' was the lead single from their debut studioo album 'Grand Unification'. This was the first post-Busted single this from Charlie Simpson's new venture. This would go on and peak at #9 in the UK, can't say this is one that I remember to be honest. For Fightstar this would be their highest charting single to date.
July 3Jul 3 Author This Week:2000- Sid Owen- Good Thing GoingTOTP Performance:Original:Sugar Minott Version:Yazz Version:Be warned this may not be for the faint-hearted. This was the only solo single from er... Sid Owen aka Ricky Butcher. This would go on and peak at #14 in the UK, thankfully this was the only solo single from Sid Owen, there was an previous Children in Need single from his on-screen wife Pasty Palmer aka Bianca Jackson back in 1995. This is an cover of Michael Jackson's 1972 song.2007- Klaxons- It's Not Over YetOriginal:Planet Perfecto Version:'It's Not Over Yet' was the fifth single from Klaxons' debut album 'Myths of the Future'. This would go on and peak at #13 in the UK, this I remember for featuring heavily on quite an few episodes of Hollyoaks. This was an cover of the 1995 hit from Grace. It's no 'Golden Skans' for me but it's tolerable.2009- Linkin Park- New DivideFrom the film:'New Divide' was the lead single for the soundtrack to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. This would go on and peak at #19 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #6 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is one that I haven't heard for quite an while, when it came out, I quite liked this from Linkin Park. Great vocals from the much-missed lead singer Chester Bennington who sadly took his own life in 2017, he was 41. Chester is still very much missed.
July 3Jul 3 Grace was top 5 in 1995, not 1996. I had forgotten the Klaxons version, still like it on a further listen!

This would go on and peak at #6 in the UK where it would remain in the UK Top 40 for five weeks, this is one that I'm not that familiar with from the Vengaboys.2005- Kelly Clarkson- Since U Been GoneTOTP Performance:'Since U Been Gone' was the lead single from Kelly Clarkson's second studio album 'Breakaway'. This would go on and peak at #5 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #2 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is probably one of the best songs that Kelly Clarkson did, an modern classic this from her, the ultimate break-up anthem. This was one that was repeat when this came out.2007- Reverend & The Makers- Heavyweight Champion of the World'Heavyweight Champion of the World' was the debut single from Reverend and the Makers from their debut album 'The Sate of Things'. This would go on and peak at #8 in the UK which would be their highest peaking single to date. This is one that I vaguely remember, probably not one that I listened to at the time this came out. This is an good tune from them. Reverend and the Makers would follow-up with 'He Said He Loved Me' which peaked at #16.
July 10Jul 10 Uncle John From Jamaica ❤️ I have such silly fun childhood memories associated with that song.Since U Been Gone is indeed a classic! It was definitely the song that made me a real fan of hers after being a bit indifferent to Miss Independent. Also remember believing it was a #1 until I read somewhere (Now booklet?) that it reached #5. Radio must’ve really hammered it at the time.

July 10Jul 10 'Maps' by Yeah Yeah Yeahs came on shuffle for me the other day and I can definitely hear how the team behind 'Since U Been Gone' were inspired by the guitar work from that song when creating it. 'Since U Been Gone' is a good song in its own right too, love the explosive chorus. Can't believe it's 20 years old 'Heavyweight Champion of the World' is nostalgic, my dad was a big fan and it reminds me of getting my first iPod - Now 67 was the first CD I put on there *.*

July 17Jul 17 Author This Week:2001- Backstreet Boys- More Than ThatTOTP Performance:'More Than That' was the third single from Backstreet Boys' fourth studio album 'Black & Blue'. This would go on and peak at #12 in the UK which would break their run of 13 consecutive UK Top 10 hits, in the US this would peak at #27 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is one that I don't particularly remember from the Backstreet Boys when this came out. It's not one that I would go out my way to listen again to though. Backstreet Boys did do better songs than this sorry. 2002- Gareth Gates- Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)TOTP Performance:I apologize this may be an popular choice but it is the Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates with 'Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake) his second single from his debut album 'What My Heart Wants to Say'. This would go on and peak at #1 in the UK which would be his second UK #1, it would stay at #1 for three weeks, he knocked off Elvis vs JXL 'A Little Less Conversation' off the spot before it was knocked off by his fellow Pop Idol alumani Darius with 'Colourblind'. I was an fan of this when this came out, I can remenber my parents buying me his debut single on CD 'Unchained Melody'. I think I remember at school I was in the Team Gareth camp and others were supporting Team Will. I think on the Monday after the final, me and a few people in my class were chanting for 'Gareth'. I know it seems a bit bizarre now.2002- Tim Deluxe ft Sam Obernik- It Just Won't Do'It Just Won't Do' was an collaboration between English DJ Tim Deluxe which featured Sam Obernik. This would go on and peak at #14 in the UK. This is have been an discovery for me as bizarrely I remember this song for featuring on an CBBC summer trailer but I wasn't quite sure what the title of this song was called. This is an good rediscovery and would be on the summer playlist for me.

This would go on and peak at #7 in the UK, it would their last UK Top 10 single to date. This is decent from them, not one that I remember particularly when this came out, it's no 'Better Off Alone' though. 2001- Super Furry Animals- Juxtapozed With UTOTP Performance:https://youtu.be/S-1W01hDCmc?si=hpbUPyDM8X_Vfk-i'Juxtapzed with U' was the first single from the Super Furry Animals' fifth studio album 'Rings Around The World'. This would go on and peak at #14 in the UK. This is one that I'm not familiar with from Super Furry Animals. This is all right from them. 2002- Darren Hayes- Strange RelationshipTOTP Performance:'Strange Relationship' was the second solo single from Darren Hayes from his debut studio album 'Spin'. This would go on and peak at #15 in the UK. The music video is an interesting one perhaps that's what Will Young was inspired to do for his 'Leave Right Now' single. All three of these songs that feature this week are ones that I wasn't familiar with when they came out. This is all right from Darren Hayes.
July 27Jul 27 Enjoy 'Will I Ever'. The Super Furry Animals track is decent and Darren Hayes's is okay but not the most interesting track he's done.

Thursday at 14:102 days Author This Week:2000- Scooch- For Sure'For Sure' was the fourth single from Scooch's debut album 'Four Sure'. This would go on and peak at #15 in the UK. This is one that I hadn't heard until now. Not sure by the 'ba-dup-bup-baya-ba-da-bup" hook or the vocoder effect. 2006- Kasabian- Empire'Empire' was the lead single of Kasabian's second studio album of the same name. This would go on and peak at #9 in the UK where it would their 3rd UK Top 10 single. This is one that I haven't heard for quite an while. This is an good song from Kasabian. This would probably be in my Top 5 songs by Kasabian that being:1. Club Foot2. Fire3. LSF4. Empire5. UnderdogThis is an welcome rediscovery of this song from Kasabian. One that I'm surprised that snooker player Mark Selby hasn't had as his walk-on music. And the music video is great.2009- 3OH!3- Don't Trust Me'Don't Trust Me' was the lead single from 3OH!3's second album 'Want'. This was the first single to be released in the UK where it would go on and peak at #21 in the UK, this got an re-release in April the following year thanks to the success of their collaboration 'Starstrukk' where it reach #22, one place below its original peak. In the US this would peak at #7 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is one that I wouldn't go out my way to listen to again, much prefer 'Starstrukk'. Wasn't a fan of this when it came out.
