Bonus 3-5 peaking songs chosen:

Earth, Wind & Fire - September (#3, 1979)

Madness - Baggy Trousers (#3, 1980)

Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight (#3, 1979)

Ian Dury And The Blockheads - Reasons To Be Cheerful (Part 3) (#3, 1979)

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Souvenir (#3, 1981)

Electric Light Orchestra - Don't Bring Me Down (#3, 1979)

The Vapors - Turning Japanese (#3, 1980)

The Korgis - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime (#5, 1980)

#4s not getting a look-in again, #5s hardly either. Also played:

Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas [poll winner as best #2 played last week]

Vince Hill - Look Around [RIP]

Tony Bennett & Amy Winehouse - Body And Soul [RIP Tony Bennett]

J Hus - Masculine [current #1 album track]

Keith Mitchell - Captain Beaky [Jamelia slot / honorary 9th bonus]

anyone have suggestions for a lesser-known Sinead O'Connor song for the end section this week? must admit I've only ever heard her big #1 hit (which we could have again too I guess).

I don’t think we’ll have NC2U again. I suppose Thank You For Hearing Me might feel fitting but there are plenty of other possibilities - Jim might surprise us. :)

I did have a Sinead song in mind for Sunday, if it's as lovely as I remember.

For the main session, we'll probably go with 40 new #2s to take us from late 1981 to the end of 1983, and maybe a 41st which would be the 400th #2 overall. I can't promise it'll be as jam-packed with quality as last week (there is an EP and double A-side which perhaps doesn't help with that), but it'll certainly have more than its fair share of classics. The same goes for the 96 songs to choose from for this week's bonuses:
