Posted January 9, 20232 yr Olivia Rodrigo has properly started teasing her new album and new singles. The follow up to her platinum-selling debut is apparently on its way to drop later this year. Here is a snippet of new material. @1612270064740491267
January 10, 20232 yr Reckon it will be very different to her first brilliant album which I loved by being pretty much about a single theme lyrically (her break up) although different styles of songs. She'll very much change the record. Not sure it will do amazingly on name alone as think 'Sour' captured the bleak mid pandemic moment perfectly. We'll see though!
January 10, 20232 yr Oo exciting! Perhaps she can be a big Q4 release with strong sales and streaming with enough versions released. Similar to the big releases we've had the last couple years with Ed, ABBA, Coldplay, Adele, Taylor & Arctic Monkeys all doing over 100k. I wouldn't be surprised if, with a big lead single, Olivia could do somewhere in the 80-120k region (her debut did 51k first week).
April 27, 20232 yr Anyone know when new music is landing? It feels overdue if she wants to build on the success of the debut era.
May 21, 20232 yr Author Just saw that Olivia is dropping a new T-Shirt commemorating 'Drivers License'. There is a driving license on the T-Shirt which has an expiry date, that being June 30th 2023. Could this be an important date in the future i.e. the beginning of a new era?
May 22, 20232 yr There's also a 2 year anniversary picture disc of SOUR. I hope she doesn't experience a sophomore slump due to taking so long to follow it up!
May 22, 20232 yr I think she's left it too long already tbh. She needed to have been more established for a break this long to work.
May 22, 20232 yr Completely disagree. I think she could release something whenever and it would be a smash hit. It’s been 2 years since her album and millions of people are still listening to it daily. Edited May 22, 20232 yr by Megan_x
May 22, 20232 yr Yeah I don't see her having a huge longetivity however i hope she does dejua vu in particular is amazing
May 22, 20232 yr Author Olivia has just stated that new music is nearly done and I also checked, June 30th is a Friday so it would make sense to drop it then.
May 22, 20232 yr Olivia has just stated that new music is nearly done and I also checked, June 30th is a Friday so it would make sense to drop it then. Ah, I must have been looking at May 30th!
May 22, 20232 yr She has not left it too long, at all, she writes her songs so she needs time, people are eagerly awaiting like crazy it's gonna be gigantic, Taylor-big
May 22, 20232 yr If anything I think she's played this just right and been very smart, both to not milk the first era and overexpose herself but also leaving enough time to build anticipation for what's next. I'm very interested to see how (or if) she's grown.
May 23, 20232 yr We'll see, of course! I don't believe that a first album era doing incredibly well is ever a total guarantee that the second era will therefore follow suit though. I have no doubt that the first single will get heavy streaming support because she previously proved herself to be a streaming goliath, and alongside that exposure there will be curiosity. However I also think that the first song back will have to be undeniably fantastic to get the public under her spell again, after such a long gap. If the song somehow disappoints... I know I'm not her target market, but I feel like I've missed the memo that "people are eagerly awaiting like crazy"... to me she's felt rather out of sight and out of mind since the the end of 2021. As a celebrity, I mean. I know her album is still riding high in the UK albums chart, but with practically every song being a hit song in its own right and them still being included on highly followed playlists, the album hanging around is kind of inevitable. Example: (Note: the "days in" total for the top playlist isn't right of course... sometimes this site has some glitches) ... and that's only the 10th most popular track out of the 11 on there.
May 23, 20232 yr What are people honestly expecting? It’s been 2 years not 5 years. It’s surely better for her to do her best work instead of dropping something mediocre and people calling her a flop anyway. I really don’t think it’s going to be an issue. Edited May 23, 20232 yr by Megan_x
