June 10, 20232 yr It depends whether the streams are premium or ad-funded. 10 premium streams would be 0.1 sales, 10 ad-funded would be 0.01666 sales. I always knew Spotify was rigged but not counting a listen as 0.1 because you haven't paid for it, seriously, a listen is a listen. Imagine in the sales era, did you buy your song from Woolworths or HMV it might only count as half a sale there would have been media stories on it.

The charts are supposed to represent how people spend their money on music. You wouldn’t go into a shop and expect to get your CDs for free. And this has nothing to do with Spotify - as it’s the same on all platforms, and it’s the decision of the OCC, not Spotify.

To counter that then if you had bought a song in 1990 at 99p did it not count the same as paying £3.99?

Out of curiosity I assume Youtube views count towards the OCC does paying for the Youtube premium monthly subscription count differently than just having a free Youtube account?

June 10, 20232 yr Out of curiosity I assume Youtube views count towards the OCC does paying for the Youtube premium monthly subscription count differently than just having a free Youtube account? Yes. All paid accounts count 6 times more than free accounts (or so I’m led to believe).
June 10, 20232 yr Yes. All paid accounts count 6 times more than free accounts (or so I’m led to believe). My argument with Youtube is I pay the premium to avoid the ads not pay for the song. I do feel quite peed off I streamed Kylie on Spotify all week not knowing it was a very low count rate but to counter I have watched it Padam a number of times each day so may have made up for it unless Youtube discard the same account watching a video per day. June 10, 20232 yr Even though downloading is a dying act, I do believe it should be even more weighted on the chart overall. Because in this day and age to get folks to use actual money to buy music should still count for something, surely? Streaming is a great indicator of the general public and it's taste, but then we all know money can be spent to push artists up certain lists or added to playlists. I don't believe a fair equal ground has been found yet at all.
June 10, 20232 yr 100 streams = 1 sale seems a pretty good weighting for sales to me. I’d very very rarely stream a song 100 times.

Isn't it also that only 10 plays a day per person count, so even if you listened to it all day every day only 70 plays count, and that is less than 1 chart sale even when you are paying for your suscription. Interesting makes me wonder how acts like Dave & Central Cee and J Hus can manage over a million a day with that stat makes it sounds a lot of people are going on Spotify just to stream them then again of course sales are different to streaming numbers but to get a million people to go on Spotify every day is no mean feat. Part of the answer is this: I’m in my 40s and have decades of music and artists to choose from - and other people of my age will choose a variety of other artists. In particular, lots of people in their 40s, 30s and 20s play music from the past, not current music. Younger people are not only more likely to be streaming new/current music, but they are also more likely to be streaming the same music as each other. Hence artists that are appealing to the current ‘generation’ of music fans are likely to get a much higher number of streams.
June 10, 20232 yr One thing that we have to accept is that each one of us is just a small drop in the Ocean. We can’t single-handedly make a massive impact on the charts. Unless we are in the position to inspire many others.
June 11, 20232 yr My argument with Youtube is I pay the premium to avoid the ads not pay for the song. I do feel quite peed off I streamed Kylie on Spotify all week not knowing it was a very low count rate but to counter I have watched it Padam a number of times each day so may have made up for it unless Youtube discard the same account watching a video per day. If it makes you feel any better, even if you had a premium Spotify account and listened to the song the maximum number of chart eligible times, that's still only a 70% chance of you contributing even a singular sale to its weekly total. The power of streaming is in a lot of people giving a song at least one stream, not so much a smaller more focused group of people streaming it to death. The volume required for a streaming push to make any dent in the charts is just not feasible compared to pure sales pushes (especially for songs with multiple versions available).
June 11, 20232 yr Could this become the greatest chart campaign in BuzzJack history!? :w00t: I must admit I’ve enjoyed interacting with people in the Kylie forum that I’ve never engaged with before, it’s been fun and immersive to throw myself into a shared cause!

June 11, 20232 yr Fantastic news hun Would be good to see how it looks compared to this time last week. Just Carol Honey ❤️ I said in a post other day she needed to aim for 140,000 and she has surpassed it now she needs to aim for 165,000 to 170,000 this week to compensate for the inevitable slowing of itunes sales. The three versions on itunes are now barely no.1 combined so streams increase is needed Edited June 11, 20232 yr by steveh31
