Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin is out next. He was already a well-established and commercially successful singer in the Spanish speaking world before his debut appearance on the UK chart with top 10 single Maria in 1997. The next year he released a World Cup themed song but it was the lead single from his first English language album that catapulted him to worldwide fame. The Spanglish dancefloor stomper set charts alight and spent 3 weeks at #1 in the UK, the most by any song that year tied with Blue (Da Ba Dee). He then had a string of top 20 singles but despite still being active and releasing music, has never charted again here since 2005.
