The Lexicon Of Love was the debut album by the Sheffield pop group ABC. It went straight to number 1 in the summer of 1982, spending four weeks at the top of the chart. Trevor Horn's ambitious production combined with Anne Dudley's orchestral arrangements and Martin Fry's unique lyrical style make this the ultimate 1980s pop album.

Tears Are Not Enough, Poison Arrow, The Look Of Love and All Of My Heart were all released as singles with the last three all reaching the top 6. Any of the other tracks could easily have been hit singles as well. The album is only 38 minutes long. With all the musical innovation that's going on here, there's not a single second of that time wasted.

If you only know Poison Arrow and The Look Of Love, I would certainly recommend giving this album a listen.

Oh I like ABC but just know 5/6 singles so will give it a try too
I am very basic and only know 'The Look Of Love' as far as I'm aware but that is a tune so hopefully there should be some other stuff here I enjoy too! Enjoyed the track you sent from them to the Pop Forum Song Contest as well (unrelated to this era I know).

This was going to be my album for May but when I decided to enter an ABC song to that contest, I delayed this so that it wasn't obvious who entered that song. I think everyone guessed it was me anyway as there were no other retro remixes in the contest.

Utter classic. A near perfect album, and they toured the whole album with an orchestra headed by original arranger the wonderful Ann Dudley a few years back when the excellent Lexicon Of Love II came out. Flawlessly Horn-tastic and Martin Fry is an amazing singer.

And I will be going back further into the classic vault next week with something completely different.

Haven't heard the entire album but know all the singles; very good. As Bjork said before on here, it was sophisti-pop before it became popular in the mid 80s.

It's influence is still around today; I said before on here that the singles from Arctic Monkeys The Car era reminds me of ABC especially 'All Of My Heart'.
